That one person should be the one that changes, since they are the extreme minority, or they should no longer watch that stream. The end of it. Any other option, such as censoring for the minority, is fucking stupid. What a joke. If the important people in the world believed like you did, black people would still be slaves riding on the back of the bus. After all they are the extreme minority and it's inconveniencing for all these fine white folks that they have to lose their slaves just for the comfort of an extreme minority.

I gotta agree with him. There's a difference between using traditional swears that aren't targetted and language that was used to either harm a specific group or referring to a deeply traumatised group of people. Especially amoungst people who are broadcasting, there's a difference between using shit, fuck, etc and the "lightning rod" words. I don't think Destiny is being more legitimite or honest by using these words. He could easily use more 'non-specific' language and not seem like he's self-censoring. Also, the arguement "Well I don't think using the word in this context demeans it's actual meaning" from Destiny just seems really weak. Because it does for the people who went through that experience, and they're the ones who matter. They're not just swears. They carry a lot of baggage. You have to be aware of that baggage when using them and you have to be sensitive to that. iNc's closing point speaks the biggest truth here - some of these words are offensive. Saying "well that's their problem!" isn't really the mature angle here. What do you gain from using them? Nothing, really. If you don't hold any special context in the term rape then just say you fucked him up or something - because its all the same to you, right? But it isn't to someone else. Also, final thought, I am impressed how the debate was kept fair and mature. Didn't feel any angry or drama vibes, just an open discussion. Any other option, such as censoring for the minority, is fucking stupid. Not really. Again, its the context thing. Destiny admitted the word has no meaning for him other than saying he really did a lot of damage/won really well and could use a variety of other terms (hell, even swears, as stated above - he fucked that guy up, woo!). The word means little to him. It means a lot to someone else. Nobody is asking to put an end to swearwords, but there's some words with a lot more clout than others, and you have to understand that before you can use them. That's the key here. He can swear, he's right to say sometimes the best say to tell someone on stream to shut the fuck up is to say "shut the fuck up", swearwords have their place, but there's a difference between a swearword and a genuinely offensive word, at least in my head.

If you want to curse on your stream fine, words like fuck and shit really don't matter, your just conveying your subject or opinion more strongly with them. But using words like rape, nigger, faggot etc etc like they aren't a big deal implies and says that the topics themselves are acceptable. You're essentially saying its ok for that to happen, no big deal bro! Its extremely offensive and NOT acceptable. I have never watched root destiny's stream before and because of this cast I never will. I'm also extremely turned off from watching this cast again as my boyfriend wanted to introduce me to this show and this topic was so offensive to me that I just had to walk out in the middle of it. I really hope destiny isn't a regular on this show. Very disappointed. Wrong. In no way did anyone say this, wtf?

The context isn't meant to offend anyone, but the people whom the words have some personal meaning to ARE offended. I guarantee you something reverberates with you too. If you're adopted and I called you a motherless bastard without knowing, you would get pretty offended (whereas the average person probably wouldn't). Or if I called you a fatass in a joking manner and you actually were fat. I actually wouldn't, cause I know they were not intended as such. If someone comes up to me in person and start screaming profanities about my childhood and my family I'd take offence for sure. But if someone tells me he's gonna rape at starcraft 2 I will not flinch an inch lol. or maybe in my case, bully me with banshees or something lol I'm not going to participate in this discussion on the internet in my second language. I don't feel I can express my opinions correctly. You americans and canadians go ahead. I'll listen ![]()

For those who think it's acceptable i'd pose one simple question, why is it that amongst a community which is primarily young, straight males the reflex insult of choices is a homosexual slur? Furthermore don't you think that this is a telling fact amongst a sub-culture that is traditionally so concious of its 'masculinity' and reflects an almost implicit, defensive homophobia?

That's simply the stupidest argument ever made.

Any other option, such as censoring for the minority, is fucking stupid. It is stupid, but it's the American way. Look at any censorship battle in America. It has always been an extremely small group speaking for the "Moral Majority." Most people could care less about these things because at the end of the day they are just words. They only have power, if you give them power. Either everything is OK, or nothing is OK. There are no lines.

But you care about insults to your family because it actually is applicable to you. Now imagine how offended you would get if someone insulted your family. That's how rape victims would feel (except probably much worse) when people start tossing profanities about rape around. I myself am not even close to perfect (despite trying to correct my habits, I do slip up with using words like "gay" and "rape") but I can recognize it's an actual problem and something that takes a little effort on my part but might make a huge difference to someone else.

i love your personal growth man but all of this "saint" thing is bs. If you say someone in the face "you stupid N$%&#" thats offensive If you say it in context it isnt offensive, as the caller representative of afroamerican race said. "I'm not offended by that"
