The ref did literally nothing wrong. He disallowed the goal for offside because the assisstant told him it was offside and the VAR confirmed it to him. The assisstant ref got it wrong but those mistakes happen. I doubt anyone could call offsides correctly all of the time. If you punish the on-field officials for this you would end up with no officials left.

What I don't get while watching this back is that VAR clearly acknowledges the offside when they initially do their check. But then right as they give their check complete, it's like they just totally forget what was the actual onfield decision.
The replay operator was the only one doing his job that day in the VAR room.

wtf is this talk about 3 opening matches being held in south america for wc 2030? fifa trying to see if they can come up with more retarded ideas with every new event now

Have the fans and players fly halfway around the world for a single match. It just makes perfect sense! I mean, Morocco, Spain and Portugal may be three countries, but they are too small. There aren't any 5-hpur flights possible. So gotta add some idiotic trans-Atlantic shitbaggery in there.
If you want a homage to 100 years of WC, let Argentina and Uruguay (and apparently the great footballing nation of Paraguay) organize 2030. If you don't think their bid will work, then do the worldcup in Morocco, Spain and Portugal. But flying 6 teams halfway around the world is (1) awful for the environment (2) awful for the competitive integrity and (3) awful for the fans.

A way of commemorating that the wc has been going on for 100 years!!
I agree it seems stupid. WC in 6 different countries on 3 different continents. I mean I prefer this over Qatar but I love when it's just one country, alternatively two neighboring ones, that turn into the world's football hub for a month.

Can't do much vs (1) and (2). The solution to (3) is quite easy: Don't go there
It's Infantino doing Infantino things. As long as everyone is buying into his shit he will obviously continue in his ways...

every team gonna be praying to not be drawn in the same groups as those teams. fucking awful decision making

yep, fifa presidents is just from one horrible person to the next horrible one

As far as I understand a major reason for all of this might be to create a convenient justification to award the 2034 World Cup to Saudi Arabia. I get the impression that FIFA is already trying to throw rocks into the pat of potential challengers: https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2023/oct/05/australia-fifa-world-cup-2034-bid-saudi-arabia-challenge
edit: In a vacuum, if Spain, Portugal and Morocco were the "only" hosts, I would actually be quite pleased with that decision.

And while this sounds great in theory, the issue is that still a large amount of countries (and by extension, probably also their football unions), appear to be run by horrible people. It's not really a surprise that they pick one of their own.

FIFA will literally do anything other than award a World Cup to the birthplace of the game, that can easily, EASILY solo host it.
Getting fucking ridiculous

But now neither Europe, Africa nor South America have any claims on the world cup For the sake of diversity (a Saudi special) the WC must go to the Saudis...

Paul Pogba has failed another drug test. As well as a backup one.

I understand the argument now thanks but that seems like a stretch to me. Europe and the Americas have organised the vast majority of the world cups already so if they want to use diversity as a justification they can already do that. Three games in South America won't matter for that.

I dont know why but I feel sorry for this guy. Feels to me like a victim of modern football.

how is he a victim of modern football? hes a victim of his own stupidity and ego. what a waste of talent

He still had a pretty damn good career all told. Perhaps victim is too strong a word, perhaps not. But Pogba for his perceived personality and someone like Harry Maguire have received dog’s abuse for years, to a pervasive degree that just didn’t happen in the pre social-media era.
Not uniquely so, but they stick out as particularly prevalent examples.
Pogba’s return to Juve was his chance to prove the doubters wrong, and persistent injuries wrecked it for the lad. Personally I feel in frustration that’s why he stupidly turned to illegal means (allegedly) to try and get fit again.
I’ve some sympathy there, without excusing it.
I mean I wouldn’t have the temperament for it even if I had any kind of footballing talent. Pogba’s had half a decade+ of United fans and British pundits, neutrals etc constantly calling into question not just his footballing performances, but his fundamental character, often based on as little as him getting a funky haircut.
Footballers in most countries have enjoyed a high public profile and all that entails, but to a degree they’d be out of sight, out of mind when matchdays passed.
Now it’s a 24/7 barrage, people used to just consume stories and discuss it with their mates at the pub or whatever, now the fans are as much the media as the media is, and there’s no respite.
