What I don't get while watching this back is that VAR clearly acknowledges the offside when they initially do their check. But then right as they give their check complete, it's like they just totally forget what was the actual onfield decision. The replay operator was the only one doing his job that day in the VAR room. The problem came is that they were under the assumption that the decision on the field was that it was a goal and that they were checking to see if the player was offside. The common assumption is for line refs to let the play develop and review later if it happens to turn into a goal, instead of possibly erring on your initial ruling that its offsides and ruining a good goal. the VAR officials think that "offsides check" means that they're checking the goal for offsides not ruling if a pass was offsides.
This is a simple procedure failure that is not an issue in any other sport in the world that uses VAR. even in MLS the procedure is for the VAR people to "call down" to the ref and explain that they are requesting a VAR check for X. This then allows the ref to clarify what his ruling is before they review the ruling. It wouldn't be a problem if they just inherently said "hey this is a procedure failing we're going to make sure this doesn't happen again" to sweep away the issue. with the way they've reacted they've let everyone blame VAR for this mistake.

When he was at Ajax he was a fantastic shot stopper.
E: not trying to imply he's a better shot stopper than De Gea, or even a better overall goalie. But him being an awful shotstopper means something is off. His main strengths are obviously that he's an excellent sweeper keeper, as Ajax likes to play high press attacking total football. Obviously Ajax didn't play PL football, but it worked for them in the CL with Onana as goalie.

mcsauce is the modern day fellaini. for some reason they always get shoe-horned in as a deep "physical" box-to-box player but their strengths are playing up the pitch and using their size to grab and advance the ball.

Very good point sir, you see this with Scotland where he’s been incredibly important for the recent resurgence of the land of my forebears, pops up and makes vital interventions further up the pitch.
Honestly McFred did alright for years, not even really playing their best positions with expectations of them to be players they really aren’t. Good players that can do a job, probably not quite good enough to really be top, top operators at a real top tier club.
At United they’re at a club which has aspersions to be elite, they’re played all the time, and not even really in roles that suit them 100% Which is crazy to have been the case for a club of United’s clout and resources.

Today, the game looked very different from last season. We had around 65% possession, and Guirassy drew multiple defenders on him, making space for the other players. The funny thing is that possession looks dominant until it falls flat on its face. They are still learning, but multiple times they make terrible passes after looking dominant just before. It's unlikely that this spell will continue for much longer because we had weaker opponents except Leipzig, who trashed us 5:1. But it's a lot of fun while it lasts. Team looks quite young, hopefully they can keep up momentum
Yesterday, VfB Stuttgart won again. We now have 18 points from seven games and are ahead of Bayern, Leipzig and Dortmund. Only Xabi Alonsos's Leverkusen could take first place from us if they win today. Guirassy scored another hattrick and broke Lewandowski's record for most goals in the first seven matches. He is now at 13 goals. Seems unreal.
The next match is away against Union Berlin. That will be hard to win.

So referees tried to help City once again (Kovacic should have been sent off sometime in the 30th minute) but without Rodri they are so bad that they still lost again Arsenal! woohoooo

Union Berlin plays very poorly right now, it will be easier to win as expected maybe fingers crossed!

I mean it’s already fouling up 95% of other places that talk ball
Can’t something just be a bad call rather than a deliberate conspiracy to aid x team?

Kovacic could have gotten a red for the first yellow, should have definitely gotten a second yellow later on. SAME foul, SAME player, just a few minutes later.
So just two bad calls in the same game for the same team? No. Its always City being favoured

Its not always City being favoured thats not right, if that was the case Rodri would not have been banned for 3 games and sent off.
You should be happy Arsenal some how won, the game was very poor, reminded me of Benitez vs Mourinho days of a lot of talent on the pitch and everyone to afraid to lose and not trying to win the game, which when you had those two teams on the pitch felt very odd.
Still going into second international break, the league is "wide open".

Hanlan's razor is particularly strong when applied to referees.

City being favoured by refs only happened in the two seasons where they won the league vs Liverpool by 1 point each yeah.

Because VAR fixed bad on-field decisions?
