Don't think the comparison holds but I agree he's definitely not worth 100 million euros. United overpaid because they waited until the end of the transfer window and we didn't want to sell any more important players.

the comparison was less about ability and more about likelihood of bench warming

Well, this is an interesting rumor:

Not surprisingly I think that'd be a fantastic choice, but at the same time, I think he'd be more suited for building a team from scratch, being given time and patience, than for achieving a quick turnaround to save a team from relegation.
Norwegian league is tiny etc, but his achievements with Bodø-Glimt are monumental. However, he'd need time. Would be terrible if they signed him, he was relegated and then fired, and that ended up being his PL shot.

Horses for courses and all that, I think such a coach is best suited for 2 gigs initially in English football.
A midtable/potential playoff candidate in the Championship, where promotion is a hope not an expectation. You get that little bit extra time, but also do have some resources with which to excel if your methods gel.
A PL league team that is basically fucked, and their fans accept this. You get time, mere improvement and structure is well-received, and you can have a crack at the Championship once you’ve bedded in fully.
I think Bournemouth may be too early in their cycle for the latter. There’s still that hope of survival, but given their squad really doesn’t look that hot they’d likely be better off hiring a traditional firefighter than someone who seems to work better medium/long term.
I’d still love to see him given a shot somewhere, just not the wrong shot. Football is a fickle mistress and one disastrous spell can ruin a reputation forged through years of constant progress.

I think Bournemouth may have been built with the relegation, parachute money and bounce back in mind anyway, so he could have a go at staying up and if that doesn't work, some team building and a go at getting promoted back to PL. There are a lot of risks in that path too, but I don't think you're getting that close to PL without some risks, not at least without being a club legend or something.

Kinda like what Wombat is alluding to, it's still early enough in the season where the manager that takes over will end up looking like a failure if they get relegated, but at the same time, it might be too late to build a team and implement radical long term changes. The ideal position for him, imo, would be taking over a team that is basically already relegated, because that'd buy him the maximum amount of time - first the end of a season (glossed over cause it's not his fault) followed by a full pre-season and a full championship season (assuming it's not a total failure).
While the Rosenborg fan in me does want him to leave Bodø-Glimt for greener pastures abroad, I'm also a big fan of him in particular, to the point where I'm kinda cheering for Bodø-Glimt alongside Rosenborg because he embodies a lot of the best elements from Rosenborg's own legendary coach (Nils Arne Eggen).

Idk if anyone has noticed what Atletico are doing with Griezmann. He is exclusively coming on after 60 minutes in every game so far.
Apparently if he plays half an hour or more in the majority of games this year they are obliged to pay Barcelona 40m pound. Instead they are using him as a luxury super sub and Barca are going to get squat.

That's hilarious. I always thought those appearance based transfer fees were a terrible deal for the player - you basically disincentivize fielding yourself.

R1 v Getafe: 62 minutes subbed on, scores R2 v Villareal: 62 minutes subbed on R3 v Valencia: 64 minutes subbed on, scores
In all three games so far they have started with Joao Felix and Morata, and both those two have been subbed off at some stage. Real Sociedad next, I presume they will continue the same way. No injuries, no midweek games and this management of their starting front 2 will mean both are fresh still. No reason to start Griezmann

i heard that playing griezmann for over 30 minutes triggers the mandatory option to buy. so by not playing him atletico not only dont pay barca the transfer fee, griezmann will return to barca with his ridiculously high wages.

I am entirely for Atletico playing around with Griezmann though. 'The Decision' was one of the most offensively conceited thing a modern footballer has ever done. Doing "Making of a Legend" the year after was almost as bad. The guy is an extraordinary wanker.
Atletico are maximising use of a good player for lowest possible cost, while weakening a rival. Good on them!
