They have now kept Mbappe, brought in Campos who is very very good sporting director, just look at who he bought in Monaco, insane! Now they can attract someone like Zidane to come into the club knowing he will have way more say of what is going on and not have to listen to Leonardo! PSG are now going to be a real force as they have hired brains!

That feels pretty crazy now that they seem to be willing to splash out 80+ million on Nunez. If that's the case, Haaland's individual terms must have some crazy numbers in them. Obviously. Haaland is gonna earn around 500k/week plus signing bonus. Nunez right now earns 40k/week at Benfica so he might accept as low as 100k/week or so from Liverpool.

Glorified into a tournament fashion, but still friendlies. One of the points of friendlies is to experiment a bit with different systems and give other players than your top 11 a chance to play and get some experience in international matches.

Here's the rough groupings (sorry for missing out on any region or miss-clumping countries, just examples on top of my head): Mediterrenean: Spain, Portugal, Greece, Turkey, etc British Isles: England, Scotland, Wales, NI, etc Nordic: Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland Baltic: Estonia, Latvia, etc (okay, a bunch of minnows, maybe the winner needs to play some pre-qualifier with another rep from another weak region) Central: France, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Belgium (okay, this is a bloodbath, maybe need to be divided into more regions, or given more slots to advance) Slavic: Czech, Croatia, Serbia (okay, this one probably has high risk of volatility...) You get the idea. Lotsa patriotic pride and historic rivalry at stake to generate hype! What do you all think?

Some of the rivalries would get stale pretty fast if they happen every year and the regional divisions would probably end up being very unfair in one way or the other. There's likely loads of money involved in qualifying, so there's probably loads of corruption involved in who get grouped together. I guess you can rig the current lottery system too though, there have been talks about heated balls and all kinds of trickery, so who knows. If we can somehow make peace with the travel fatigue and environmental cost and all that, I really prefer the European wide qualification.

The Nations League is supposed to pit equal strength teams against each other so that it's more competitive and interesting. But a lot of teams, including top teams, are just fielding experimental squads, which kinda defeats the purpose. Probably the regional format won't be any much better. But maybe the neighbourly rivalry may put more at stake. And in the end, even if the teams don't treat the competition seriously, at least we don't get players fatigued travelling to play matches that their hearts not into...

I think the neighbouring rivalry is so precious because it's still rare enough. Twice in a league of 38 games is fine. Twice in a set of 6 games every qualifier gets repetetive very quickly even if it's over a two year cycle or so. I don't know how the Old Firm works 3 times a season, but even that's far better than the repeated groups of 4 would be.

For me, nations league is on average more interesting than what the regular qualifier games are, although less interesting than the most interesting regular qualifier games. I love the format and hope it stays around for a long time, no need for any changes.

I don't know if there's a way to make it interesting for the top tier teams that are more often qualified through the actual qualifier, but for teams below that it's really good. I guess some of the top tier teams may still end up needing that qualifier, so you can't just exclude them and let them rest or play friendlies or whatever the cool kids do these days. I'd like to think there's a way to make the tournament meaningful for everyone, but I can't come up with any good suggestions right now.

Overall, I'm not against the Nations League. It's definitely a step above random friendlies. Just throwing out an alternative idea, that's all.
