Ecuador is supposedly getting expelled from Qatar 2022 for falsification of Byron Castillo documents (He is colombian and never got the Ecuatorian nationality)
Who knows, the trail reslts are giving this friday, but Giralt Pablo is pretty big argentinian jorunalist Iirc this is just a weird case, neither the player himself knew this was the case, nor the authorities.
It gets a bit strange in that (from memory) he had a brother who died early in life who had the same name, and did have Ecuadorian nationality.

So what happens then? Do Peru get a free pass for finishing next in line?
If they give the slot to Italy I will be disappointed

Multiple Liverpool connections say that Liverpool is willing to break their transfer record to get Darwin Nunez. I think the current record is Van Dijk, so it should be somewhere in the ballpark of 85 million euros.
So far Liverpool has been pretty good at nailing the big transfers, the last two being Van Dijk and Alisson. Should be interesting if it goes through.

I dont think Liverpool will spend so much money

As far as i understand, it depends if Ecuador gets punished with all games or the games only Byron Castillo goes
In the first situation, i think Peru goes through directly + Chile to the playoffs; In the second situation, Chile goes directly.
Depends on what Fifa says IF they say something at all.

They have to decide soon. The Australia v Peru qualifier is on Tuesday

Seems like a total mess. If Ecuador's foul play warrants a disqualification, Peru should go through and Colombia should play vs Australia, but that's a lot of organizational hassle. Then again, if they simply let Australia and Peru through, CONMEBOL won't be happy giving up any of theír qualification quota and settling that stuff could be time consuming.
Maybe let Colombia play against the loser of this qualifier to settle who goes through in a wildcard match? Not ideal, but could be doable since the tournament itself is so much later than usual. To me it seems it's either that or you just force CONMEBOL to take the fall and let Australia & Peru through.
Footballing wise I'd love to see Colombia in the world cup. There are definitely some interesting individuals on that team at the very least.

Colombia is never in the racw for the spot unfortunately. Its chile who profits from disqualification

If Ecuador gets punished then all the games they won/draw will be losses and then Chile becomes #4 and Peru stays #5 and Colombia #6

Of all the options, that one never crossed my mind. I just looked at the qualification table and saw Colombia 6th and thought they're the benefactors on this one.
Chile must've had totally rubbish results vs Ecuador, since Colombia even had a pretty comfy lead on Chile on the initial results.

As long as it's not Italy I'm fine with whoever

Lol yeah chile gets moved from 6th to 4th in their olympic quals due to ecuador's games that used an player that wasn't born in ecuador and never filed a switch getting flipped to 3-0 defeats.

Local journalists say the deal is pretty much done at "80+20 in easy objectives".
Im baffled at how can pundits around here think that is a fair value.
FFS luis diaz was the best player in our league by a mile before leaving and went for a lot less. Haaland regardless of circumstances went for 60.
Darwin had a good run on the second part of the season and he is young, but come on....100mil? If the deal is actually done in those terms and not by some 40, l'pool are overpaying by a lot. He is good, but not even close to Haaland good.
This reeks of agent's doing scammy stuff and continues to create imbalances locally. Im sure everyone still remembers João Felix's 126M.

Im sure everyone still remembers João Felix's 126M. he was linked with united. thats an automatic +40m to the price tag. its just funny that united saw the price tag and dropped interest because we dont have that kind of budget anymore and were looking at players like de jong and timber and liverpool comes along and decides to overpay

and he rejected united right away due to wanting to play CL. Newcastle also made a bid recently and were rejected by the player as well.
