They arent behind but this a team that has been coached out of playing the kind of football that they used to play. Its really not fun. Granted its a mostly second string but the Messi dependency has never been more painfully obvious. And they might even get ahead because of the superior attacking prowess.. but its sooo... Mou footy.. its ugly ![]() EDIT: Whaddaya know, golazo on a half chance..this will only encourage this stuff. Although the goal seems to have perked them up. Balaidos is one of Barcelona cursed stadiums (with Anoeta). We loose points against Celta most seasons . The match is great and Dennis Suarez is playing very well, he should have played more this season. Valverde should have rotated more the main squad this season in liga, they are too tired because of the lack or rotation.

I know, this fact is not lost on me, but that's a terrible excuse for being so heavily second best. The most it does is increases the other teams belief, which while dangerous again is hardly a valid excuse. I dont buy the fatigue argument either. Barca has played this game like a standard Atleti game that Atleti plays against teams more skilled then them.

At least the match is fun (already 2-2). Aspas is awesome, I hope he plays with Spain this summer.

Just like the Sky Commentator Gerd Gottlob didn't realise VAR couldn't intervene, too, but he still thought the decision was probably correct. His argumentation being that even with the replays he wasn't 100% sure if it was handball or not and considering the ref had prime view the ref must be right then

Gifs for anyone interested: First VAR usage: https://streamable.com/wbxcu controversy/VAR non usage in added time: https://streamja.com/akMQ

Yeah I agree with you there. Seeing it live and in the 1st replay it definitely looked like a handball. So I could understand Gottlobs reasoning, too. In the end Hartmann was an idiot to not just wait a sec with the whistle just to be safe.

The replay makes it look pretty clear that it didn't actually hit his arm. Probably makes a good argument for expanding VAR usage.

Yeah just noticed that wow, Juventus have to play both Milan clubs still to so a draw might not be a disaster for Napoli either. Inter look good and Milan well they kinda found a bit of "form" right under Gattuso.

Yes, VAR couldn't be used because the referee stopped the game before the goal was scored, so it isn't one of the 4 situations that VAR is allowed to review. And even if you did allow VAR to review it despite it technically only being an offensive foul/freekick, the best outcome would be a ref ball for the attacking team. Can't award a goal that didn't happen in the first place. Like Thenewera said in his other post the only thing that would have helped here is if the referee had waited "to allow an advantage", that doesn't really work either. If he thinks it was a handball he had to make the decision regardless of what could have happened afterwards. Meanwhile FIFA wants to explain VAR usage/show it on the stadium screens (after decision is made). Interesting to see if it works out in a less partisan atmosphere, maybe they will then trial it elsewhere after all. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/43820565

either the referee clearly missed something and is overruled by var or var asks ref to look at replay to rejudge
