Can't find any footage on Alonso's offence. Was it a clear cut thing?

Juve drawing with Crotone and suddenly it's on again... gonna be a fun game this sunday at Turin, but Napoli doesn't win away with Juve since ages and even if they win the bianconeri will still be one point ahead.

Yeah just noticed that wow, Juventus have to play both Milan clubs still to so a draw might not be a disaster for Napoli either. Inter look good and Milan well they kinda found a bit of "form" right under Gattuso.

Crotone scored with a bicycle kick too, Juventus supporters gonna have nightmares about bikes soon

How is Mike Dean still allowed to officiate games at all, is there a union or something?

What if a Ref decides just to ignore VAR requests and so on?

I don't think anyone has any idea how refereeing oversight actually works, including htose that actually do it.

52 points with 33 goals scored, 0.63 goals per point. that's pretty amazing tbh - I just briefly looked through the table for the past 15 years and the second lowest average was 0.74 goals per point. Average for all clubs this season is pretty much exactly 1 goal per point.

Also interestingly they've scored something like 11 goals in the last 5 games. That's one third of their whole season total.

well that were some crazy last 20 minutes in Schalke vs Frankfurt

I'm curious were you watching this on ARD? Because the Sky commentator spent 5 minutes trash talking the VAR until someone finally told him that it VAR couldn't intervene at all.

Yes I was watching it on ARD. Just like the Sky Commentator Gerd Gottlob didn't realise VAR couldn't intervene, too, but he still thought the decision was probably correct. His argumentation being that even with the replays he wasn't 100% sure if it was handball or not and considering the ref had prime view the ref must be right then

I think that's a situation in which you can't use VAR, correct?

The replay makes it look pretty clear that it didn't actually hit his arm. Probably makes a good argument for expanding VAR usage.

Yes, VAR couldn't be used because the referee stopped the game before the goal was scored, so it isn't one of the 4 situations that VAR is allowed to review. And even if you did allow VAR to review it despite it technically only being an offensive foul/freekick, the best outcome would be a ref ball for the attacking team.
Can't award a goal that didn't happen in the first place. Like Thenewera said in his other post the only thing that would have helped here is if the referee had waited "to allow an advantage", that doesn't really work either. If he thinks it was a handball he had to make the decision regardless of what could have happened afterwards.

Meanwhile FIFA wants to explain VAR usage/show it on the stadium screens (after decision is made). Interesting to see if it works out in a less partisan atmosphere, maybe they will then trial it elsewhere after all.

I think this could open up a discussion about allowing goals even if they technically "didn't happen". For example, in hockey if a player has the puck and is moving toward an empty net with no one to stop him but is brought down from behind by a defending player, he is automatically awarded the goal even if he didn't even take a shot.
A sound mind in a sound body, is a short, but full description of a happy state in this World: he that has these two, has little more to wish for; and he that wants either of them, will be little the better for anything else.

getting football dinosaur minds to change that about the game is pretty much 0% chance.

IMO they should have been less ambitious to start. Step 1 is simply having video referees only do the "objective" stuff like out of bounds and goals. Once people were comfortable with that they could have added penalty decisions and card review, particularly in the case were a card is issued to the defender, while the play in reality was an unsporting flop (essentially swapping the cards from one player to another).

Nothing else is really broken enough to justify it.

I just realized, but with Atleti losing today. Barca could win the title if they win the next game and then beat Madrid at home. Lel.

They only need one win. 2nd tiebreaker is head to head and they beat and drew Atletico.
