Even good teams can play badly, theres a reason teams dont win back to back CL's. The competition is hard. Well unless you get Roma and Wolfsburg, but some team gets that kind of run every season and you can only play who you get so thats not something you can hold against anyone.
Where was Messi ? Messi was getting marked out of the game by an Atletico defense that was better than him and his team. There is no shame in that. its often stopped him and it often has not. Its not like Messi scores a dozen goals a year against AM.
Why dont people just let atletico have the ball ?? Because some teams care more about playing the way they want to than pragmatically trying to win. Some teams are also not built to win different to what they know, and thats fine too.
If that doesnt work that doesnt work. Thats just how it is and thats why alot of people like the teams they do. Personally I think its a stupid question because the answer is rather obvious to anyone who watches football.
This does not apply to Barca when you see how the players act when they start losing.

yesterday was his 37th hat trick for real madrid.. when I heard commentators mention it I immediately had to fact check because it didn't sound real, but yeah.

His goal scoring record for Madrid in general is off the charts.

And he saved them more than once. It's a pity he won't have a tons of trophy with RM because what he's doing is insane.

Btw these high profile games between spanish teams often seem to turn into the game who can be the biggest cunt and get away with it. It's often quite awful. You could have easily red carded Neymar and Suarez in both legs.

Felipe Luis today was the man of the match. He is always a spectacular defender when playing with Atlético.

In the last 16 games at home on the champions league atletico only suffered 4 goals and only once suffered 2 goals in the same match.
What was the team that scored twice? Freakin Sport Lisboa e Benfica

Well done Atleti, but you're still a bunch of gangsters clogging your own box.

Well you could argue his goal scoring comes at a cost to the team also. And alot of the goals are fluff. But still goals are goals, if you score that many most of them are bound to be important

Getting back to the conspiracy theory that UEFA wants the b€st teams in the semi-finals killing the romantic side of football.
I can understand that referees don't book the players because of their criteria. I can understand that handballs like the one in the first game are subjective and open to personnal opinions.
But the play on the image below is just as bad as it gets when we talk about refereeing.

You have a player that's running alone for the 1on1 against Neuer, the closest player from bayern (Except for Javi Martinez that did the tackle) is 5 meters away. How in hell can this be a yellow?
Just to wrap up the quarter finals from champions league: It's really good for football that all of the games from the quarter finals ended up in 3-2 aggregated results. It clearly shows the balance of the games at this level. Even when we have games like Benfica - Bayern and Wolfsburg - Real that had clear favorites.

Because Neuer is defender as well as goalkeeper, making him effectively the last defender. Now that's some sound logic right? he had no choice but to give just a yellow

Yeah there were a few mistakes across the quarters in all games. However it all balanced out and the teams who deserved to go through went through.

Balanced out? Benfica didn't had a single dubious decision in their favor in 180 minutes.
the part of the deserving teams I kinda agree..

Lmao the Barça haters shitting on the ref the and talking about bs conspiracies the whole game... Then proceed to stfu when the last minute pen is not given ofc
At least the game was fun, Barça played great the second half and never deserved to lose the game at all. Props to ATM for not wasting as much time as I expected, could have been really frustrating to watch.
CL has always been about being good + getting some luck. RM got lucky in the draw twice while Barça didn't. Barça was unlucky yesterday not getting any goal off their many chances and not getting that pen called.
Hope Barça stays classy just like Jordi Alba and don't blame the ref. The best team lost. Just take it and move on.

Now that's some sound logic right? he had no choice but to give just a yellow It is said that a red is given if that was the last defender, but technically in the rulebook, it's the last two defenders, because as you said, the goalkeeper is counted as one, so it should be a red in this case. It's called the "last man" before the goalkeeper, and it can be the goalkeeper himself. That rule needs to be rewritten to be more explicite though.
