He needed time but in his last year as coach he was the very best. The Bayern then varied so much. As a Bayern hater I respected them so much that year. Because defending like AM (meaning both parking the bus when you're ahead and actually being high on the pitch when you need to) is incredibly hard. Tactically it's incredibly brilliant how they defend.

Shame, Messi injured again ? One was playing against Wolfsburg, the other against Atletico... Not really a fair comparison. Not saying that Messi played well, but let's not forget who their opponents were x)

I guess the Champions League curse continues to hold true ![]() edit: with MC only 4 points ahead of MU in the EPL, there's still a slight possibility that MC won't make it to the CL qualifiers next year, does this mean that if Munich meets MC in the semi or grand final and wins, Pep will effectively eliminate himself from the CL next year? Sounds like a great reason for the biggest throw of the century :D but then again Pep can always count from Van Gaal's ability to fail miserably like he always has and this isn't even gonna be a problem

Real getting lucky again next round? City-Real and Atletico-Bayern? Any matchup would be fun anyway :D

This stupid international break before a Clasico > Atletico > Sociedad > Atletico didn't help either. Anyway, no excuse, I don't think only MSN disappointed tonight, the whole midfield wasn't good enough either. The thing that saddens me is that Atletico was really not as scary as 2 years ago when they should have won the CL if not for Ramos' header. After a 2-1 they should have been able to qualify :'( Real getting lucky again next round? City-Real and Atletico-Bayern? Any matchup would be fun anyway :D Those 14 games all come from club world cup or what?

Anyway, I don't think Atletico has been super impressive either. I just want to say that Barça played so many games this year that what's happening is not a complete surprise x) 1000th post!!

Even good teams can play badly, theres a reason teams dont win back to back CL's. The competition is hard. Well unless you get Roma and Wolfsburg, but some team gets that kind of run every season and you can only play who you get so thats not something you can hold against anyone. Where was Messi ? Messi was getting marked out of the game by an Atletico defense that was better than him and his team. There is no shame in that. its often stopped him and it often has not. Its not like Messi scores a dozen goals a year against AM. Why dont people just let atletico have the ball ?? Because some teams care more about playing the way they want to than pragmatically trying to win. Some teams are also not built to win different to what they know, and thats fine too. If that doesnt work that doesnt work. Thats just how it is and thats why alot of people like the teams they do. Personally I think its a stupid question because the answer is rather obvious to anyone who watches football. You could argue that Barca has played more games and may be more jaded. And that could be true but honestly who cares ? They played alot of games last year too and won. Sure you wear out over time but bottom line is Atletico were better at this time and thats perfectly fine.
