Schweinsteiger did so much and was everywhere on the pitch. No idea where your coming from.
Sad sad sad game because you could clearly see a 0:1 at Baca or even a 0:2 and this game would not only have been great in terms of how it was played but in terms how exciting it could have been.
They lost it all in Spain obviously..

Oh another thing. Boateng surely played his last season right? Guy is woeful and how is he even a Pep defender? He constantly hoofs it/long balls it. Got made to look a fool in Camp Nou and at home he was just wasteful. Benatia needs a partner similar to him and Bayern will be back even stronger next season. Maybe a replacement for Alonso as well as he isn't getting any younger (see first goal)

I would sell Alonso. In all bayern losses this year at least one conceded goal came directly from him.
Boateng did alot long balls because no other players try go forward. Boateng is by far the best bayern defender this year. He is only weak if he has to do alone because all other teammates failed.

Also Real has the squad to fight 1:1 vs Barcelona if they manage to advance to the final. The last El Clasicos have all been joys to watch and I don't expect this to change.
I disagree, for starters you cant fondly remember Di Stefano and Muller because not many people got to see them. Even if you look now footage is very hard to come by (I've tried)
Now you have millions upon millions of people watching the stuff happening today the game is so global its ridiculous. Having been to some of the biggest dumps on the planet and the exposure that football has its amazing.
My dad saw Mario Kempes in the 78 world cup and its like his biggest memory of football and that was just the final in a black and white tv that the whole neighbourhood came together to see (most people didnt care about the game they just wanted to see the tv)
There are so many people sharing these memories you cant forget them.
Human memory is short yes, but about the details. Not with respect to greatness that people have witness regurly.

Bayern are rapidly approaching the point where they need to rebuild. There's an argument to be made for almost every position needing strengthening either immediately or the season after next season. People talk about City's age and how they need a massive overhaul but Bayern is really not far off having the exact same problem where they need 6 or 7 new high quality players

I don't understand the Bayern needs to rebuild statements. We just yesterday saw them beat what has for the past months looked like the strongest-ish team ever. Barcelona's past 30 games prior to yesterday, which includes games against Bayern, Real and Atletico Madrid, Manchester City (alongside the rest of La Liga), had them going 28-1-1 with a 95-16 score difference. This Barcelona is an absurdly good team at peak form. And Bayern beat them yesterday - and they looked very convincing doing so - even though for Bayern, this particular period of time has been one of bad form and injuries.. There's no need to be overtly dramatic about a somewhat out of form and absolutely injury-plagued Bayern losing a game against arguably the best team in the world, and especially not when they actually look really good while losing.

Bayern looked good when barca played at second gear at best.

Eriador I agree with everything you said but its still true: Lahm, Schweinsteiger, Ribery and Robben are getting older. And I think we are not talking about the next one or two years. But for like the next 4-5 years Bayern certainly needs to rebuild somewhat.
|
Well, the win yesterday was due to Barca playing lax in the 2nd half, but a good game by Bayern nontheless after the small losing streak.
Rebuild seems exaggerated though as the midfield will stay strong even with Schweinsteiger, Lahm and Alonso retiring in a few years. Sure, Robben and Ribery need adeqaute replacement in the coming years, but thats it. Far from a major overhaul of the team.
Boateng too weak? Seriously? He´s the best defender on the squad and with Martinez, Badstuber and him fit, Benatia is likely to be on the bench in important games unless he steps up his play in the coming season. Benatia is strong at headers, but his positional play was abysmal during both SF legs.

I dont quite get this. If you include the world cup Boateng was easily a top 5 defender this season. He is just fantastic and improved a lot under Pep. And the list of defenders looking bad 1 on 1 against messi backpaddling at full speed includes like... everyone. But he also played too many games this year.

Never forget how Arne Friedrich bossed Messi in 2010!

Reading Pandes statement makes me wonder if he watched enough Bayern games. Boateng is very very good. And easily Top 5 defenders in the world right now.
Being humbled by Messi is something that can happen to every defender..

lahm and schweinsteiger are 31 and 30 respectively. They might have peaked, but there's no reason why they can't be great for another 3 years.. Especially Lahm seems like the kind of player that can change position and still be dominant, and seeing as how he has retired from the national squad, he should be able to get the increased rest his body requires. Robben and Ribery are 31 and 32, but more dependent on flair than the others, so I accept that they'll need to be replaced, and they are not easy players to replace.
But I mean, Bayern still has one hell of a team even if you somehow decide to comprise it solely of players below 27- Thiago, Martinez, Lewandowski, Götze, Rode, Müller, Alaba, Badstuber, Boateng.. I agree that over the next 2-3 years they'll need another couple solid signings, and that over the next 5-6 years they'll need several, but what top team doesn't need to replace key players over the next 4-5-6 years? I mean, I can actually agree that if we're looking at 4-5-6 years, Bayern might need to replace more players than other teams because they do have a lot of quality currently around 30, I just don't get how the games vs Barcelona was indicative of anything of the sort.
Imo, they lost because of 1: MSN is literally the greatest attacking trio ever assembled, 2: randomness of the game.

Schweiny still has it, he was amazing last night aswell. Lahm is just being wasted in midfield tho.
|
Lahm is not wasted on any of his 2 positions... Still sad how underrated he is because he doesnt score goals or makes impessive moves..

In 5 years Messi will be 32 and Ronaldo has most likely retired so this is a bit too far in the future . Barca is at 26.8, Real on 26.7 and Bayern at 27.1 average age so the difference is really tiny.
I think Thiago/Alaba/Martinez will be the long term solution in the defensive midfield so this is already covered pretty well.
However they have 0 depts, a paid stadium, made 66 million with CL only and a new big deal with Adidas so i think they will spend a lot of money this offseason, maybe something like Bale if he is available for a somewhat reasonable price.

I haven't been paying attention to youth football at all - but this discussion sparked my interest. Any of you know how Germany's youth department is looking, and is bayern / has bayern been as present in the German youth teams as they are / have been for the German national team?

Messi wasn't the reason why Boateng looked bad, that was just hilarious and bad, but its the fact like i said he just pumps it long every time. Its quite crazy how a manager like Pep lets him stay on the pitch, forget the other games he played well in during bundesliga, Bayern won the league before the season started no? They should get judged in Europe where they have not looked a dominant force.
Boateng or Benatia who would you pick to start every game? Benatia, out of any other defender in Bundesliga who would you pair along with him? I would not choose Boateng out of that group of players available to Bayern.
We shall see the fallout in the summer anyway when Pep spends money and i am confident Boateng might be pushed out of that starting 11
Anyway. Onwards to Real vs Juve! Sick game i hope

I looked through the u16-20 national team rosters but that doesn't say too much I guess. One can find a high amount of Bremen and Wolfsburg players and that atleast is something I heard of quite alot. These two are doing fantastic work. Stuttgart has a brilliant U17 team but there is a former la masia-player in there so we're not talking German players anymore.
Overall there isn't a single club who dominates one of the youth teams.

Wow Real so close...
Sick save by Buffon!
