have u seen any of his concussions ?
"head down" is a bit of a stereotype.
one big symptom of having suffered a concussion is that you lose your peripheral vision so it doesn't matter where your head is.
Lafontaine played before he fully recovered from previous concussions and had impaired peripheral vision... so it wouldn't matter where he was looking.
imo, Lafontaine deserves to be in the Hall and Lindros does not.

ok the 1st video his head is up when the elbow hits him so hard it sends his helmet flying, and the 2nd video is also an elbow right to his face. so ty for posting those videos to show the difference.
now lets see Lindros, makes a move, head down at the blue line.
again, an example of a player who has not fully recovered from a concussion and has lost some of his peripheral vision. Lindros should not have even been playing in this game.
sidney crosby made a very similar move to lindros right before the 2010 "golden goal" in overtime was scored. crosby successfully executed a "1 on 4" partly because his peripheral vision was perfect.
really nice to see Dubas is an admirer of the Tampa Bay Rays, my favourite baseball team.
Jimmy, i'm not talking about perioheral vision, or coming back to early from injury... i'm saying Lindros does not deserve to be in the HoF b/c he ruined his own career by skating with his head down an taking unnecessary punishment to his head. Someone like LaFontaine deserves to be in the HoF b/c despite having his career shortened over two cheap shot elbows from minor league players, he was still albe to play long enough to score 468 goals, an over 1000 points total.
PS Crosby made that move in 2010 work b/c his head was up an he avoided the incoming hit, thus he's a smart player that should be revered as a Canadian hero. Lindros is just a bum that didn't keep his head up.

as Jackie Childs ( TVs greatest lawyer ) would say "very well said sir. your logical is immutable... irrefutable and indomitable."
i'm tellin' if i wrote a book chronicalling this mess and tried to get it published as a work of fiction it would get turned down for being "too unrealistic".

I can show you lots of replays of Lindros' play-making. Play-making is not possible with the stereotypical "head down" style of play.
he played with a target on his head. something he deserved.
combined with his poor peripheral vision and this is what you get.
i agree he didn't skate with his head down all the time. I'm not saying he did it every time he touched the puck. I'm saying he got hurt b/c his head was down an he got caught. That is his own fault. It's not the guys that took his head of with the hits, it's not his coaches fault, it's Eric Lindros, that's who's at fault for his broken career.

he fell into the same trap as that guy with the thin black moustache did in 1942. he started too many different wars on too many front lines. by 1996 every defensemen in the NHL was looking to line up and destroy lindros with a hit. if you recall the Jovanovski/Lindros war.. taht was sort of the beginning of the end for Lindros.
plenty of defensemen let up on guys like Sakic and Sundin. not so for Lindros. and that is entirely Lindros' responsibility.

I just don't think it's fair to compare Lindros, with LaFontaine, or Crosby. Those two were hurt with elbows to the head by minor league players, players that shouldn't even be in the NHL. Lindros fucked up his own career, you can get away with looking at the puck in JR but when you hit the NHL there's a whole slew of players that'll line up to take your head off if it isn't up.
Rangers sign Zucc for 1 year/3.5m. I assume he got that deal because they wanna see another year of 50-60 oints before going long term... but they better not lose him when he's ufa next year damnit.
e: @NYP_Brooksie: Kreider, Rangers avoid arbitration by agreeing to two-year deal worth $2.475M AAV.
i wonder if mtl is dumb enough to let subban go to arbitration

Not to far fetched really. It's basically there way of saying "You're good and we'll pay you good money but you need to maintain these numbers or improve them if you want term on these deals."
If he's bad then a two year deal is very tradable.
it has to do with who owns the team. BCE Inc. and Rogers. massive media companies.
nothing like a nice powder-puff piece to enhance your future job prospects with BCE and/or Rogers and the 94385739874589875893745 media outlets they own.
if you think this bloomberg article is bad... Shi Davidi is a walking-talking Alex Anthopolous blow job.
as for the Dubas hiring...
if Dubas were merely added to the current Leaf exec team it probably would not mean a lot... and it would be much adieu about nothing.
however, the Leafs cleared out Nonis' support employees and replaced them with Dubas. this makes Dubas one of the most powerful aGMs ( relative to other aGMs ) in the NHL.
so, it is a pretty big move for the leafs.
for all of this stats guru talk though... Dubas biggest move as GM of the Soo was born of political opportunism not the application of newly defined stats.
also, the Soo's biggest 3 acquisitions during Dubas tenure were via "eye ball scouting".. the stats they use in the Soo did not exist for the teams they played for at the time the Greyhounds scouted them.
The only 2 bullets Shanahan has left in his revolver are aimed directly at Nonis and Carlyle.
Shanahan is starting to make his mark on the Leafs.
it'll be interesting to see if Dubas becomes the Leaf's "capologist"
funny the bloomberg article never got into any of this nitty-gritty...we got wide-eyed talk and far fetched parallels.

dude's good for about 55-65 pts a year, and is really good both ways. that's gonna cost a pretty penny

Shi Davidi has the best job ever. He gets to claim he is a baseball inside but really he is spoon fed "tips" by the team and writes/says what they tell him too. Best job ever.
The Dumas or whatever the hell his name is hiring won't make a difference. I really do not believe Randy Carlyle will change his systems or anything based on numbers given to him from a 20 something year old kid. It will cost him his job most likely

Now they are. They weren't before and still the media circus surrounding all things Toronto sports is hilarious to follow. It happened long before Ted stepped into the picture with taking over the Skydome in '05 and before Bell got their share on the MLSE so spare us more of your bullshit. Those stories would have been around regardless, but it's a nice cover to fall on because it's so darn easy.
