Yeah, Riberio can certainly score when given the opportunity. Roy though, I don't imagine he can regain his past effectiveness. It'd be nice to be proven wrong though (always gotta root for the little guys).
There was much hullabaloo in Edmonton about the team chasing one of these centers and I suppose it's a matter of opinion but I'm rather glad they ended up with neither. Being forced to cheer for Ribeiro would have been shitty and Roy would have been replacing Sam Gagner with a shittier Sam Gagner. Neither of those players balance the roster out so they are better off seeing if one of the younger guys can play (Jar Jar, Yakimov, etc.) or going full-McDavid.

the example provided stated Cleary would be paid $10M/Year as an "assistant to the GM". there is no way the NHL would let that happen with any player.
This opens the door for every NHL team signing an aging superstar veteran player to a minimum salary contract only to see their salary rise to more than Crosby's salary as they retire. So it can't be permitted and it won't happen.
Now, they may hire Cleary as a pro scout for 200K at most.
also, this "coach" comment. almost on NHL-er goes straight from palyer to coach. And, when they do their pay goes down not up. they get crappy low level entry level ass't coach pay. They don't get Mike Babcock money.
so again it would be salary cap circumvention to hire Cleary as a "coach" at anywhere near the money Philly originally wanted to give Cleary to get him to leave Detroit.
Regarding your other comment about NHL teams manipulating the LTIR status of players.
It is rare to have a non-existent injury get claimed and have a player put on LTIR. But, often an injury is a matter of degree and not a simple "bone fracture exists" .."bone fracture does not exist".
As a result, teams manipulate the timing of when they LTIR players in order to best work around the salary cap.
Every team in the NHL has done it..and there will be a parade of teams that do it just before the season starts.
The plethora of concrete examples of Teams screwing around with the timing of LTIR-ing their players are on CapGeek.com and sites similar.
Often players get injured at the start of training camp and don't get LTIR-ed until the day before hte regular season starts.
There are an endless # of permutations and combinations of ways to manipulate the cap in this way.
Most soft tissue injuries are a matter of degree and not as binary as "dead"/"alive" making it really hard to catch teams doing this stuff. As a result teams play around with when they LTIR palyers because they know they can't get caught.
I've just played 15 hours of basketball in the last 3 days. I have an inflammed medial epicondyle in my right arm. Am i injured and must quit playing for 2 weeks? or can i just play through it with some physio and ultrasound treatments? who knows.
when an NHL team decides to LTIR a guy who got injured 10 days ago its really hard for a DR to assess the "age" of the injury.
i hope this little post has been educational for everyone involved .
With Lindros constantly pointing the finger at everyone, but himself after all these sorts of incidents.... even the general public began to realize what an idiot he was...
I'm waiting for Carl and Bonnie to issue their official rebuttals to these accusations in separate press conferences...
o ya, i forgot, no one gives a fuck.
it is interesting to have a referee acknowledge in writing the subjective nature of his on-ice penalty calls in that article though.
" if they're concerned about that then i should go somewhere else", Mike Babcock discussing the criticism FAs are not signing in Detroit because he is too tough on players.
In that interview, on one hand you see that Babcock is clearly much more involved in front office decisions than a generic coach -- so I guess he has an incentive to re-sign -- on the other hand, he isnt really a re-build coach, wouldnt be surprised if he doesnt extend his contract and goes to a team that is on the bubble of a run but cant quite get over it -- like the Blues or Pittsburgh I guess if either team has another sub-par playoff -- and have their Grand Rapids coach rebuild the team since he's been coaching most of the guys for a couple years now.
In the 90's Carl and Bonnie were in the paper more than Mark Messier, if that doesn't prove Eric Lindros deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, I don't know what does.
ennis reupped with the sabers for almost 5mper over 5 years. maybe a tiny overpayment, but then again he has been one of the few steady offensive forces there.
rangers signed matthew lombardi 2ys/1.6 total. cheap contract for a guy who could surprise and be a nice contributor i nthe bottom six. if not, he's cheap at least
Rangers picked up Lee Stempniak for 1 year/900k. Really nice deal for a guy who can give you some scoring from the third. Hopefully he's as effective as Pouliot was.
should be a good addition to the rangers if he can stay healthy. Same for Stempniak. Should be an upgrade over Pouliot based on the fact that he does work hard. The rangers wont regret letting Pouliot go when they see him go back to his lazy ways in Edmonton.

Lafountaine got in ... his career was destroyed by concussions.... of course he is a first class guy, Lindros is a total fuck-face...
whoda thunk an Ontario boy who donates all his money to Ontario hospitals would get told to fuck off by the HHOF and the parade of Russians, Swedes Americans, and women continues to flow into the Hall.
"canadian athletes don't want it as much as american athletes" , jason whitlock.
the women's olympic hockey event was a perfect example, team canada had a 2-0 with 3 minutes left and lost 3-2 in overtime to team usa.
Jason Whitlock needs to stick to covering basketball.. he is having enough problems doing that job... getting into hockey , philosophy and canadian culture is a bad move on his part.
if andrew wiggins is lazy ... fine.. just say so.
Terry Fox was another lazy canadian athlete. he quit after getting lung cancer.. talk about lazy.

I hope Cassie Campbell gets in next year.
I wasn't aware that Pat LaFontaine's concussions were sustained by skating with his head down. Lindros may have been good for charity but that's doesn't get you in the HoF either. Maybe if Lindros played long enough to get 450+ goals like LaFontaine he'd be worth the invite.
