Russel strikes me as the kind of guy who really realizes how important his team is to his success, If he had to shave a few million off his contract to keep a team that could get him 3 super bowls in 4 years in the NFL and give him a real opportunity to be the best (Most SB's anyway) QB of all time he would see how that's worth much more than a few million more dollars up front. The guy is going to make $100 million easy in the NFL What would one do with an extra $35 million that they couldn't of done with the first $100 million? Plus you can always make more money with $100 million, you can't use the money to get back on the field and win more Super Bowls. Also, he is a magnet for advertisers and a stand up guy who will have a future making big bucks even after he retires (if he wants to anyway). Of course you know his agent want's the $$$, an extra $35 million for Wilson means at least another $3.5 million for his agent.

A good agent will do whatever it takes to maximize the total income of the player, and I think becoming the face of a company like Nike would be worth far more than anything the Hawks could pay him.

@AdamSchefter: Not just Jets interested in Darrelle Revis; Rex Ryan will try to lure the free-agent-to-be CB to Buffalo as well. AFC East in on Revis. If Schef is talking out of his ass, then it's pretty sad. If Schef has an inside source from either team, that has to be considered tampering if they're leaking it through a league source to publish their interest in him. Either way, the NFL should investigate because he is not a free agent to be. If the Pats had gotten word out to Revis and his agent they would give him a nice deal while the Bucs were still negotiating with him before cutting him, there would have been a month-long "investigation" from the league filled with lots of unprofessional leaks, questioning of legacies, blah blah blah. But the Jets owner can flat out say in front of the world that he is interested and there's nothing in the news? Maybe because there should be nothing to investigate? It's on tape, millions of people saw it. Maybe it was mailed to the league and Goodell didn't see it because someone lost it. I don't fucking know anymore.

Chalk that one up with Curtis Martin in my book of "this guy shouldn't be in but everyone else thinks he is so I must be missing something" players. Seems like the general theme this year was "catching up" on the inductions of older retirees.

Yeah I don't have a lot of faith in the foresight but I don't know anything about his agent so maybe he's not thinking short term (ie didn't spend money before he had it/outstanding debts with his bookie ). He is basically better than Tiger in every way (I guess he hasn't won as many championships yet though hard to compare that directly). I mean he got a divorce but because his wife cheated on him (could even rub some shine off on women's Nike with breast cancer awareness or something) Continued success could mean independent lines through Nike and mini-Michael status.

Like a month ago there was an investigation and everything. He even came out and said he did say it but he didn't mean it in that context and even called the Patriots to explain his intentions.

Since ESPN likes wild accusations here is mine. Only ball 2 psi under was the one the colts intercepted and brought to the sidelines. Time to investigate the colts. Can I have a job ESPN?
