I hope we can get Arsenal's Gedion Zelalem too. He's been impressing in the friendlies and is already drawing comparisons to Cesc Fabregas.

any one with the right connections a just a lil bit of talent could be a pro player in europe. I mean this kid is just an average normal player, I think I have personally met 2-3 players who play in amateur leagues here in colombia who are way better tactically than gomis. Another case, The Frank Rijkard days at Barca, there was this player Oleguer Presas, who I never understood or knew how he was in Barca 1st team. He completly sucked balls, was bad technically tactically, in every way possible, but he just was from la cantera and worked his way up. Makes me believe if he was a pro player I could have been too, I mean i was always better than kids my age while grrowing up, but my parents mentality was always, futbol is for fun school and university is 1st.. anyone else have those thoughts? or am I just having mental masturbations?

I don't think you have any idea of what it takes to be a pro and how big the gap is between pros and amateurs. You'd have a better chance trying to be a pro in sc2. And I wonder how many games of Lyon or France you have seen to say that Gomis is tactically bad.

Not sure if you'd consider it professional or amateur But I have grown up with a friend who is currently in a championship sides academy and has been for about 8 years now, it's interesting because looking back there really wasn't anything special about him, we'd race 100m since we were like 6 and he never won by a great margin only about 1-2 m faster the difference was though and it always occurred on the sports days that if it was 800m 1600m you put him in and he would win because he had stamina He could kick a ball and took some nice free kicks but that was about it, it seems that the defining factor in being scouted (aside from either large amounts of talent or being decent) is how long you can run And commitment his parents drove him 1 1/2 hours to his teams training session that was like 3 hours long twice a week for 8 years Once you're in it seems hard to get dropped because any lacking in technical ability should be remedied by many years of training

The kid in my class played for West Brom academy since he was like 8 and was even allowed from year 10 onwawrds (14-16 years old) allowed to leave school for a whole day to do training sessions at West Brom. Being from Worcester it was no trouble for him as he would get the train up. But again he wasn't anything special, was good passer of the ball, played very simple. Fitness he was ahead of everyone, and same again in our Sports Days he would run the 1600m and win comfortably. Nothing else special, then when he left school he got let go and his whole career was ruined. He then dropped all the way from West Brom youth team to Cambridge United reserve team where he played there for 2 seasons until again he got released. Now i think he plays a standard of Saturday afternoon football. Nothing special at all that level, my mates play that and there as good as me, difference is i kinda retired at 18 lol. TLDR: You REALLY REALLY have to be special to make it anywhere in football

To become a pro you need at least as much luck as you need skill... In that team I had another friend who was about my skill level and that went to Auxerre youth academy (one of the best at that time) but never made pro. Now I see guys coming from this same academy and they are awful... So : 1) Skill, 2) Luck, 3) POWER OF WILL, 4) REMEMBER THE NAME

So at a certain age they're just more fit and stronger than the others at the same age. After a while when you grow up that advantage will disappear and then they can't keep up anymore.

I can kind of understand it. I think Wenger is hesitant because he doesn't want to pay these ridiculously inflated prices for players. I'd wager that signing Suarez was Ivan Gazidis' idea. I also think it has to do with his loyalty to the current players at the club. You have Walcott, Giroud, Podolski, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla, Rosicky, Wilshere, Ramsey, and Arteta at the club currently, in any given game three of those guys are going to be on the bench (plus any players that become first-teamers this season, like Yaya Sanogo or Ryo). Wenger thinks those players between them have enough quality to win trophies, and that none of them deserve to be benched, especially for a new signing (which may also explain why players like Diaby keep getting a run in the side, rather than being sold and/or replaced by a new signing). In the end though, I'm sure that whatever happens, Wenger will do what's best for the club. Played in an awful team to start with was just literally best mates from high school and we had this kid who was 3 x size of anyone else. He gets ball and he holds off everyone with his power, then can hit ball 3 x as hard as anyone and scored. He used to get penalized so much though for "fouls" which clearly weren't just the fact he 3 x size of anyone else xD
