I think you should train alone and disregard anyone's advice. I've seen like 3 posts of you training with other people that annoyed you and wasted ur time. This isn't rocket science, learn the lifts, practice and add weight over time.

I work out mostly alone because I rarely need motivation to come to the gym, and really have a hard time finding someone with similar goals as me or as dedicated

I have adequate motivation as it is. I just felt bad about all the misinformation, but these people are beyond saving.

just ignore them... i don't tell people that they are doing things incorrectly/inefficiently unless they specifically ask for my help. Don't bother arguing with them, and just smile and keep to yourself.
some people enjoy the idea of going to the gym casually, and they will still see results in the end. it's not 'wrong' to play BGH or Fastest or Turret D or w/e if you are having fun.

Still, I'm just going alone at this point. Mostly what bugged me is there were two guys who wanted a good basic program, and he has them doing all this random shit. I couldn't give a crap what he does, because hes entrenched. These other people knew nothing and now know nothing or maybe less.

Whats the fucking reasoning behind this? are they thinking to themselves "no i dont want to develop any core or other stability"? There's actually a path of logic, which, in it's own way, makes sense, if you don't think about how picking up heavy shit works in the real world. Isolation means you aren't holding back muscles with other muscles, and you don't have muscles that are tired or sore from one workout relied on for another workout or exercise. It also looks more scientific. Perception is everything. Well it is also true that machines are not worthless. Free weights are king but I do not know anybody, even at the extremes of fitness, who don't ever use any machines as a part of their routines. Machines definitely get a bad reputation they dont deserve just because people use them as a crutch.
The only time i've touched a machine in recent memory is to move it out of the way of my fucking platform.

Just turn off the volume and enjoy the view from some posing lesson I found on an Icelandic fitness site...

IMO only use of machines is body building and injury recovery.

Great music and girls but horrible camera work / editing or whatever it's called.

Ah, machines are fine if you use them for in a useful way. When injured, as assistance exercises if you have specific weaknesses, general as a supplement for your main training. We just hate them because 95% of all people in the gym use them for the wrong reasons and in the wrong manner. But there is really nothing inherently wrong with machines.

I'm using three machines to help me rehab my hip/back imbalaces, but for actual training and progress theres really not a reason to use them over freeweights.

That is really not a very interesting topic to argue over, but I am not using a single machine either and I still wouldn't agree with your statement. I can totally understand when some people drop in this forum and get annoyed by our attitude, when everything but freeweights and squats are considered useless. There is some nice little things you can do with machines that don't really work with freeweights, Face Pulls come to mind. Lat-Pulldown stations have their use, especially for obese folks which cannot perform real pull ups or chin ups yet. I am sure I can come up with more if I put an hour of thought into it. Sometimes our attitude in here really is just elitist

I can definitely agree that the attitude in these threads is really intimidating and makes newcomers not want to even try.
I'm using machines for more than half of my exercises because I don't have the extra hour it would take to wait for the other 50 guys that are in the small free weight section of my gym :| and I have still seen some improvement in the way I look even though I know it isn't the most efficient thing I could be doing. But it works for me I still got some valuable advice from all of you fine folk(and the stickies!!), and I appreciate it <3
