Hey Malinor, do you blame the cult of Eshlow for your current weight?

Oh right, thanks man.
Bench is at 75kg, squat 130kg, bentover row 60kg. 173cm tall 24yo Consuming 1750 calories atm. Current weight 71kg.
Right now I'm looking to lose weight, I've been building muscle for the past year and realised I've still got my gut. Trying to lose enough fat to make a difference in my stomach. I'll be going back to gaining muscle once I've achieved this.
Also, deadlifts are a bitch. So annoying, it gets really irritating when you feel you can do but your grip/forearms die on you.

Everyday when I wake up I chant the name of eshlow, so that he may rescue those who do not yet believe. May we all die of sudden hard disease.

Don't know if you use chalk yet, but if you don't, buy some. It makes all the difference in the world for your grip. Noone who ever uses chalk on deadlifts is gonna stop using it.

Should you feel deadlifts in your forearms? I know I've felt it in my grip, but forearm makes me think the arms aren't locked out. I dunno, it's just not something I've ever felt.

After deadlifts my forearms are so sore I can hold onto my pen properly for any of the lectures I have after. Though usually I don't really notice it in my forearms during the lift.

Chalk...that's an interesting idea. I use gloves already though. I'll look into it, thank you!

I tried doing some chin ups at the gym the other day. I hadn't been able to do a chin up since probably elementary school, since I've been obese ever since. I jumped up to the bar and pulled myself over almost effortlessly. The feeling of euphoria I got watching my body being pulled up and over the bar was amazing. I can't remember the last time I could do that.
I did 3 total that day, and 4 a couple days later. I say it all the time but I can't thank you guys enough for the knowledge and motivation I've recieved from this community. If there's one thing I've learned here it's that anything is possible when it comes to your body.

Gloves are actually going to make the lift harder for you - They increase the diameter of the bar, so it's harder to grip. Take them off, and start using chalk. If you're worried about callouses, don't be. They're awesome and manly. If they bother you, or start to get too big, use lotion, and start trimming them when you get out of the shower in the mornings or after you do the dishes in the evening (when they're soft).
@ DimmuKlok great job man. I think that last line sums up this subforum really well, keep up the good work!

Couple questions:
1) Does anyone have any experience in doing their own workout scheme for years and making good progress, and then switching into a program, such as SS? In particular, I'm wondering whether you experienced more rapid gains than when you did your own thing.
2) What are some good leg exercises to do besides squats, deadlifts, cleans, and calf raises? I'm not doing deadlift or cleans right now due to past lower back issues, so my leg workout at the moment consists of squats, calf raises, and then a leg press machine. I'd like to get a hamstrings focused exercise, but the machine where you lay on your stomach and lift your legs is supposed to be terrible for your knees.
|
It's hard do something for your hamstrings with a lower back problem that prevents you from doing cleans or deadlift. The lying hamstring curl is the only thing I can think of. Have you tried glute ham raises or reverse hyperextensions? Probably bothers your back but it's bodyweight. It's hard to isolate your hamstrings
