Record of Lodoss War is a really amazing setting deserving of like, multiple series and sidestories, but it didn't get that.
It's like firefly for me. When you watch it you just find yourself going "why isn't there MORE of this?"

Fashion = X/Y, which had fashion as the maingame and iirc there were some pokemon in the side-story or something.
Also, longtime fire emblem fan / active community person. I would generally agree with Yango that FE reflects contemporary anime trends, which I actually think is neat and I think the constant minor evolution of the series is one of it's best qualities. So, although I personally don't enjoy this waifu shit + Show Spoiler +, I think it's a really smart / with-the-times direction for the FE series to go in (I mean we even basically have a lovelive! crossover game now) given it's historical focus on the characters and their relations rather than the story (barring 10 ofc) or gameplay (for the most part).
I have several problems with If though: + Show Spoiler +1.) The name is bad, even genie bun roku hashtag fast expand is better 2.) I don't like the build-your-own tactician presented as your avatar of yourself 3.) I don't like the general themes of the story 4.) From what I've heard it has a lot of the same problems as FE10 did with balance, where there's lots of good-workable characters but there's a good number of obviously more powerful ones due to a prevalent special status (royalty). 5.) Same boring skill system as Awakening. Or at least, it's very grindy, so it's a very flat experience for LTC players (although personal skills are legit). 6.) Weapons aren't as different and cool as they needed to be to make good use of the "replacing durability thing". 7.) Still another "offense is done on the enemy turn" entry in the series, which isn't intrinsically bad but it's a little bland and it'd be nice if they could mix it up within a single game. 8.) Various mixed-Japanese and queer problems (like at least 20 but no-one would be interested in them)
But, debating trivial small things is a sign of a healthy FE community, and they're certainly doing that, so there is lots of hype for the game and I'm looking forward to it. More interested in FE Cipher personally. It definitely doesn't look terrible and isn't "not good enough to deserve any hype", though. Down to LTC draft with anyone.

Anyone ever read Shin Angyo Oshi? It's by the guy who did Defense Devil (which got cut off sadly). Ugh, now I'm thinking of all the manga I've read that either ended or got cut off early. So many feels. Read it a while ago, it was OK, a decent read when bored, but it wasn't amazing. Story also seemed kinda all over the place, but it's been a while since I've read it so I might just be forgetting things.

Just finished the 13 episode OVA-- not too shabby. There;s two more animates series, so can't really complain.

Lodoss is DnD party DM's wish they had. Slayers is the party most players wish they could get away with.
Also I fucking love Record of Lodoss War. In case you couldn't figure that out somehow.

Me and 4 other guys are complete DnD newbs. Started a game yesterday night, 4 players + 1 DM. 5e.
My DM sucks, we wanted to pool our money from character creation and buy two elephants. He didn't let us. Even though its right there in the book in the transportation table!

Riding elephants is awesome too.
But why would you need 2 for 4 guys? 1 is good yo.
Buy an elephant and a horse and ride the elephant and have the horse carry your gear IMO

So, some factors:
-Money for character creation is for gear, so would you have been gearless and naked riding the elephants?
-Are elephants native to the area? Would you have been able to find them?
Personally, I might have let you do it, but then I would throw tiny passages and mice your way.

Since I am not an RPer but I do have curious questions, I wonder is it up to the players to decide how much gold they have? As in, the players are making the characters could you have your character backstory have a player that has ample amounts of gold? Obviously you don't want him outfitting the rest of the party in ludicrously expensive gear, but does the DM have the power to limit how broke the characters are? A bunch of penniless adventurers every single time might get old?

A lot of different systems either give you a flat amount of gold based upon level or gives you a dicepool to roll and then multiply that by ten, modifying the pool based upon your class. Though obviously if your character has an affluent background and an amiable DM a player can modify that with permission.

I always thought starting gear shouldn't be based on some arbitrary rule.
Characters starting gold/items should be based on character back story. Thats open to abuse, but as a DM if you think it's being abused you just go "lol no"
In a larger answer to your question, DMs to a huge degree have the power to do whatever the fuck they want. Really the only checks and balances to a DMs authority is the players deciding its not fun anymore and not showing up.

It kind of depends, though. Rich people in a dangerous world aren't going to walk around with their life savings in their pockets, or blowing all of it on adventuring gear.
Starting gold will be based on background, but that doesn't mean a character with a rich background is going to feasibly have access to everything at the start of the campaign. There's going to be reasonable upper limits on how much of their wealth translates directly into their starting gear/pocket money.

The DM has the power to do whatever he wants. Full stop. The base rules are a great starting point and guide, but it is ultimately up to the DM to decide any and everything.
So sure, they could be a band of aristocrats throwing money this way and that. But that tends to attract attention, and greedy bandits will likely try to take advantage of that.

Meh
I'd like to get into some RPG stuff, but I can't find people to do it with really. The farthest I can get is Mafia.
Oh yeah, happy Monday guys.

Roll20 has PUG type things, although I've never participated in them myself. There's a bunch of people advertising looking for players or DMs for all sorts of systems.
