On October 23 2015 22:42 Seuss wrote: It's hard because all my 2E stuff is hard copy. But I can give you the cliff's notes version of the setting from memory: + Show Spoiler + Before creation there were primordials, beings that were the living embodiments of elemental forces and concepts. Through their immense power they formed creation, and created the Gods to be their servants. The primordials then left creation to the Gods while they themselves played the Games of Divinity. The Gods wanted in on the Games of Divinity, but were bound by oaths to never raise a hand against the primordials. However, they found a loophole and with the help of Autochthon, the primordial of invention, and Gaia, the primordial of life, created Exaltations. Exaltation grants mortals a portion of godly power, and the mortals were not bound to the same oaths as the Gods. These mortals, the Exalted, overthrew the primordials for the Gods. They killed most of the primordials and imprisoned the rest both physically and with oaths so that they could never seek vengeance. However, the dying primordials placed the Great Curse on the Exalted, dooming them to eventual madness. This curse is intricate, complicated, and subtle, effecting different Exalted and different types of Exalted in vastly different ways. Very few in creation are actually aware of the curse, and its effects were not seen for many centuries after the Gods gave creation to the Exalted to rule. The curse fell heaviest on the Solar Exalted, the chosen of the Unconquered Sun. They became increasingly violent, despotic, cruel, and otherwise abusive of their godly and political powers. The Lunars, their mates and bodyguards, were not much better off. Eventually a tipping point was reached and, with the help of the Sidereal Exalted, the Dragon-Blooded Exalted deposed the Solars, slaughtered them, and trapped the Sparks of Solar Exaltation to prevent any new Solars from being born/reincarnated. Those Lunars that were not killed fled to the wilderness. Meanwhile, the primordials that were killed found themselves unable to truly die, for they were anchored to Creation. These primordials, the Neverborn, began plotting to destroy all of Creation and thus allow themselves to sink truly into death. After millennia of planning they broke the prison that contained the Solars' Exaltations. Half of these they managed to recover for themselves, but the other half escaped. With the captured Exaltations the Neverborn created the Abyssal Exalted, dark reflections of the Solars. The Dragon-Blooded aren't too happy about the return of the Solars and hunt them down. That and the machinations of the Neverborn are the primary sources of conflict in Exalted, though there are many, many others. And that's the tip of the tip of the iceberg. I didn't even cover stuff like the Wyld, Yozis, Dragon-Blooded society, what the hell the Lunars have been up to all this time, magical materials, manses, the Celestial Bureaucracy, or a billion other things. Hooray! TY Monte. Also I found somebody who is gonna give me a weather report tomorrow. Double hooray! Indonesia can still suck a dick though. + Show Spoiler +

Probably my favorite tabletop memory was from a convention when I was a kid. I don't remember what game it was exactly but the setting was very lovecraftian. We were on a boat sailing an unknown ocean that we'd been transported to by some Bermuda triangle style shit. We had a map and a book full of writing in a gibberish language. The DM had given us a physical map and gibberish book to play with. My character was an archaeologist or whatever, and it was my job to translate this book and figure out wtf was going on. Which meant actually sitting down with the real book and actually translating it physically. Every time we went from one place to the next on the boat we would spend IRL time "sailing", which meant time to chat and roleplay and such. I would go to the corner of the room and translate this book. I figured out via the book that where we were going was the lair of an old god. Right as we got there. We all died. It was awesome.

Though for people learning backwards from 3E+ what's probably more confusing is how AC and saving throws are functionally equivalent but not identical.

On October 24 2015 01:31 Ketara wrote: I want to play a sexy angel with superpowers. What kind of sexy angel with superpowers can I be Asmo? Can I have blue skin??? In exalted there aren't angels per se or, in the core rules anyway, different playable races, so you can't exactly play an angel. Blue skin is not common unless you're a dragon-born aligned with water. Dragon-born are also the least powerful exalted so most beginner campaigns stick to Solars and Lunars. You could probably come up with some other reason for it like experimentation or something but it's definitely not normal. Wings could be done different ways. Anyone could get an artifact that lets them fly that could look like metal wings, delicate or otherwise. Lunars are shapeshifters and with the right build can eventually choose to grow wings regardless of whatever form they happen to be in, at least in 2nd Ed. Your character could also take a chance and wander into the Wyld and randomly get mutations like wings and blue skin. However, they'd be just as likely to grow a mouth on their stomach, prehensile hair, or just plain go insane. You could maybe wave the downsides away and just say you got lucky with the help of the DM (through a powerful artifact you found or backstory or whatever) but that way strikes me as the most obtuse way to get what you want. addendum: as for the sexy part, put 5 points into appearance and you're already more beautiful than anybody living on Earth, probably. That's easy to do at the start of the game.

You could probably invent a custom charm to temporarily give you wings anyway.
