There are two terrans on aligulac with more than 3000+ rating in TvZ, Maru and Clem. Several in the 2900-3000 range (Byun, Bunny, Cure, HeroMarine)
6 zergs with 3000+ ZvT rating (Serral / Dark / Reynor / Rogue / Solar / DRG)

Clem in the EU. It starting to appear he has some kind of block when playing an international tournament... and Cure to certain degree

Cure's just a dark horse in general. Never know when he's going to show up and kill everyone or get knocked out first round.

Course I guess you could also say that too about Rogue in this tournament except Rogue is more in general just WAY WAY better when playing offline so this isn't exactly all that unusual for him.

Clem's form is 50.88% on Aligulac: http://aligulac.com/players/5878-Clem/
Cure's is 38.89%: http://aligulac.com/players/1665-Cure/

Neither has been doing well in the match-up recently.

It seems like only maru can turtle until the end effectively.

That's because Maru never stops making Siege Tanks.

Not only that, Maru's placement of his PFs are so much better than Clem's. Clem placed his PFs in the middle of nowhere where Dark could easily surround the PFs and get rid of them.

Maru on the other hand, place them in such a way that it creates narrow channels to funnel the zerglings or banelings, with siege tanks behind those channels killing off zerg units. Maru also leaves a lot more units behind to defend, instead of sending a large bio army to attack. Maru only sends out a small chunk of his bio, with a few ghosts to attack, and then he pulls back.

Clem doesn't do that. He brings a large portion of his army, and I think Dark noticed that and took the opportunity to go straight down the middle and carved out a channel into Clem's main base. Maru is a lot more patient than Clem is.

It has to be said that Clem has always struggled more than most in cross server events, probably because of his aggressive, micro focused plastyle, and that this problem is naturally more evident in TvZ.
When Clem started having the upper hand against Serral and Reynor he had an approximately even record against Ragnarok and Armani(whereas Serral and Reynor were performing as expected against korean Terran of the appropriate level) ;when Clem reached double digits win records in April/May 2021(after Katowice, for sure) against the european Zerg he eventually started beating korean ones(and also managed to beat Dark and Rouge) but at that point Clem had the best overall shape of his career and online Cure/top Serral overall winrates.

Clem's overall level also declined significantly, with his TvT and TvZ becoming way worse while his level in TvP stayed the same or improved slightly; new maps must have played a role but I'm not sure that's the only reason.
At the moment, Maru could just be better than Clem in every single matchup.

I think part of that is that Maru has adjusted his playstyle so much over the years and knows how to play so differently in each matchup. I've seen him being super aggressive against Terran/Zerg/Protoss, but at the same time, I've also seen him know when to turtle up completely and just being defensive (his series against ShowTime as an example).

Clem on the other hand, I haven't seen much change. There are changes for sure, but nowhere near as diverse as Maru. Take a simple example, I have never seen Clem play mech in any competitive matches against Zerg, whereas Maru can and will throw in the odd mech games (like his series against Ragnarok). Being so one-dimensional means that his opponents can adjust to him, which I think the Korean Zergs have done, and both Serral/Reynor started doing that as well.

It's easier to win with one-dimensional playstyle as Zerg than any other race. Protoss is a distant second despite their more abusive builds because of constant patch changes. Terran is the most dynamic of all.

That's why foreigners can only excel as Zerg historically throughout SC2. And why multi-dimensional Zergs like Rogue, Dark and The-One-That-Shalt-Not-Be-Named will always have the edge in terms of success and legacy.

(There, I said it. Let the flame wars begin!)

Sure, everyone knows koreans are superior multidimensional entities and that's why they are so good at Starcraft.

you disagree that most foreigners have a more one-dimensional approach to the game than koreans?

You agree with such a statement which is a pretty biased oversimplification at best and complete nonsense at worst?
Throughout the history of Sc2? Probably.
At the moment/in recent times? Not especially.
RKC also implies that non koreans cannot play Sc2 without being monodimensional, which is ridicolous and unworthy to be even discussed.

I don't think Clem needs to play mech so that koreans will have an harder time playing him, they would not care since mech is relatively weak and kinda figured out. I only see Maru play mech vs inferior zergs like RagnaroK, or when playing good foreign zergs cross server.
Clem did play mech vZ in the past, more specifically battle mech with cyclones etc., but he stopped doing so after he threw the game against Reynor in nation-wars with that style.

well Serral, Reynor and Clem surely have a more one-dimensional approach to the game than Dark, Rogue and Maru.
And then there are also players like HeroMarine and Showtime who basically play only straight up macro

DRG got some very nice build idea and was ahead, but his lategame control was just not there against top-tier players like Serral.

Feels cruel to have Lambo cast the guy who's potentially taking his RO24 spot

So with the win, DRG is now the wildcard RO24 seed IF Zest has to forfeit his spot. Zest seemed more optimistic about his ability to compete at IEM Katowice than before (though he said it's far from a sure thing), so it might not matter for either Lambo or DRG ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

DRG did it with the allins. Serral needs to realize that's his weak spot for once.

Hell yeah DRG back to peak form! Not many people say they can beat Serral in a tournament so this is an achievement in itself!

It is tough to fight in Ro32 bracket. Mostly they will exhaust before the real challenge begins in Ro 24. As far as I could remember, no one survivors from Ro. 32 in the last Katowice made into the playoffs, right?
