For sure. When Maru and Clem are attacking, their pace is pretty comparable. But it feels like Maru also knows how to defend with that same pace and skill (and generally react a bit better to the game state), where as Clem seems to struggle when he's not on the opponent's front door. The aggressive KR ZvT styles really throw him off and play to his weaknesses.
More like Maru can play with many different style and build order than Clem, make it harder for Zerg to defend against Maru early game. Clem is pretty much like clock-work with his early tech and build order, and opponents can prepare for certain timing and move out from him and counter effectively. Maru can play any of the 5-6 different opening, including proxy or Mech or 3 racks, and that force the opponent to be less prepare and cautious.

Well, I despised them as well, except Whirlwind because you had to actually work to try and take additional bases. Other two were just campfests, much like Hardwire we're seeing right now.
Also, comparing old 4 player maps to 2 player maps says a lot about the 2 player maps we have nowadays
