uni first week = amazing.
Then it becomes a sad life of all-nighters, many Red Bulls and liters of coffee, cramming to study and living in the library.
I've been to the library less than 10 times in 2 years at uni.
Library is overrated. Why go somewhere when you can lock yourself in your room?
because streams exist and you never get time to read.

I believe we found in the rules when Stephano chatted that you werent supposed to chat but no one cares. I assume they would step in for BM with fines like they said they would. the rest of the chat has just kind of been silly stuff like scarlett begging for mercy for her overlord

Slam denied Bomber's third with a lot of Roaches so he got it late. Slam gets 2/2 and adds Hydras and destroys the 3rd OC and pushes to gg. Slam goes heavy on Roaches but doesn't do as much to Bomber's third this time. Bomber defends and loads a lot of Medivacs filled with Bio to Slam's main and does some decent harassment while he builds an army. Bomber's army is too much for Slam and it's a win for him.

Majestic forced a cancel on Bly's proxy hatch in his natural and then let the drone get away and make a proxy hatch in the main and didnt do anything about it and then lost. that was pretty fail
In a single game we saw how fun storm builds are as opposed to colo builds, and how stupid WM are in TvP. I hate Protoss, but they really need to remove the shield damage buff.

Same here. If we had winner's match now, we would continue the storyline of "who advances first". Then after that one, we could begin the "who gets out in second place" storyline.
Instead now that storyline kinda begins while everyone just wants to watch the winner's match.

+2 or +3 zealots will 2shot any level of armor for lings right?

I'm not sure about the zealot hits to kill lings but I guess he was just waiting for more gas before getting it.

No, Zealots only two shot lings if they're up one level in upgrades.

That was really weird. I felt puCK was compositionally ahead and during the first fight he looked fairly even. But then he got caught out and was 100 supply down. I guess Slam was just too rich.
edit: Looking at the first fight again, he ended up 70 supply down, despite the fight looking ok. The zerg remax is just too scary, and he overextended.

I guess if you're a really great micro-er it doesnt matter 0_0
they were highlighting one immortal after the first fight was over, puck was not maxed out on upgrades, maybe then it looks different? i don't know, but really didn't think slam would be able to do it. pleasantly surprised

if zerg has vipers you need to position well, immortal count isnt enough
also once he lost his colossus in that stupid overextension onto creep into a remax 3/3 lings became a lot more deadly

well i guess he could have afforded it earlier, on the first max out
This was a surprising series in many ways. Definitely will make me reconsider the way I feel about those infestors ultras styles, with adequate micro and vipers it seemed amazingly able to take fights even against an army designed to slaughter it. I would have liked to see pucK have some more storms and to take other walled bases before engaging (if you wall them correctly the ultra player can't really do anything until he has brood lords), then try to kill the remaxes as they hatch.

i dont see how he could have attacked any sooner to "kill the remax as it hatched", he went immediately after the fight and ran headlong into the remax which is what lost him his whole army + 3 colossus
as much as the immortals are important if you dont have colossus then ling/infestor suddenly wrecks protoss

His army composition wasn't perfect. When you face ultra styles you aim for literally mass archons + immortals + templars for feedbacks and storms because it will literally kill any remax. He had a bit too many chargelots for my taste, he could have sacrificed some for harass while building up a gas heavy army behind his walls. And no armor upgrades definitely hurt. It was complicated anyway, don't get me wrong, infestor ling kinda make you need colossi but then vipers counter them so it becomes a micro war. Tricky style, good for Zergs who can micro 3-4 army groups without any problem I guess.

yea you may be right but i honestly think the bigger problem for puck was how he positioned/took engagements and his decision making in when to counterattack. i dont think a top level protoss would have lost if you gave them control of what puck had

did puck skip colossus in this game or did they get killed again? i really think you need at least 1-2 to fight ling/infestor, you cant just counter the ultras against a player who goes for a complete composition like slam is

did puck skip colossus in this game or did they get killed again? i really think you need at least 1-2 to fight ling/infestor, you cant just counter the ultras against a player who goes for a complete composition like slam is

Well the things that makes it tricky is how fast Slam gets full energy vipers, which really makes the Protoss reluctant to produce colossi (though perhaps needed, I have no idea). I'm however really convinced you need storm to fight this composition, and, more importantly, feedbacks. It should then boil down to a control battle which is great.
Really cool PvZ from Slam. It looks really strong in large engagements against the Protoss deathball. I think that a better upgraded protoss that takes lots of small engagements can deal with it though.

This. I need this replay NAO ! :D I mean, infestors in case of stalkers blink, transfuse on ultras and blinding cloud on ranged units ? What more do you want ?

Though similar in the idea (calmly staying on equal bases while building an army that can fight cost effectively) this style is indeed infinitely more entertaining.

yea, needs better use of templar for sure. the reason i like to see colossus is because even with abducts they can usually roast a few groups of lings/target down some infestors before dying even with vipers out, and it prevents the zerg from moving around as confidently before the engagement goes full out

I mean, when the idea behind building SH is 'let's mine out our half of the map each and i'll try to be more cost efficient overall' it is boring

I think we were talking about mass swarmhost styles (into vipers + infestors later on) the -horrible- idea of which you gave a good summary ^^. Light swarmhost styles are entertaining but alas not as succesful so far. I remember Revival and Soulkey playing around with some really cool 10/12 (10 for Revival, 12 for Soulkey) swarm hosts styles with whom they were very mobile and adapted the rest of their army to the Protoss reaction, but it seems they gave up on it.
TvT is probably the mu I understand the less, having never played it seriously even when I played around with random. This one should be entertaining though.

What he did is really clever. On a low eco scenario he knows Bomber will mule like a madman and is very unlikely to have a scan. The banshee cloak was some nice move (edit : unfortunately Bomber has so many orbitals it doesn't matter).

Some kind of proxy cheese.
Gas-first proxy Factory->Starport for Marine/Hellion/Medivac elevator right next to his base. Alternatively, gas first proxy Factory/Banshee into 1 base Marine/Tank/Banshee allin.

... MajOr saw the drop, right ? I think he was trying to make Bomber think he didn't know and snipe the army, but he failed hard and he found himself dead before he could even regret his decision.

Some kind of proxy cheese.
Gas-first proxy Factory->Starport for Marine/Hellion/Medivac elevator right next to his base. Alternatively, gas first proxy Factory/Banshee into 1 base Marine/Tank/Banshee allin.
Thanks guys. I wonder why people don't try that kind of stuff more often against him, he loves money so much he never (am I wrong) scv scouts, at least on 2 players map.
Unless I'm missing sarcasm, probably because it's not a guaranteed thing even with a blind player on the defense. I mean, Bomber ALWAYS gets some combination of Marines/Tanks plus probably a Raven, which so happens to be exactly the composition you need to defend most 1-base cheese play. There are certain ways you can array your forces so that even if a blind attack comes that you don't scout, you're already in a position that enables you to have the best possible chances on the defense.

Yeah he was trying to bait him in, but Bomber took the bait and then stabbed him with it.

No you're not missing sarcasm man, I really know nothing about TvT. But then isn't there a way people could play really greedy to compensate for Bomber lack of information ? Maybe the problem would be your teching up to raven too slowly in case Bomber goes banshee ?

It is one of the larger online computer parts stores in the US and is in Canada so it is a fairly large sponsor.

Sure, you can go defensive 1-1-1 into 3 CC double E-bay, and just do like Bomber likes to do and smash face with a 14:00 max 2-2 Marine/Tank army. Only problem is if Bomber also does that you then have to out-Bomber Bomber.
I actually liked the way Major approached Game 1 of the series, with Mech versus Bio, but he made some execution errors that allowed Bomber to gain an edge, as well as Bio being REALLY good versus Mech on Sejong with all that airspace and multiple attack angles.

Precisely. I'm of the school of thought that playing outside your personal style is almost always a bad idea. It's that kind of reflex that causes people to play weird things versus Taeja because Taeja's fucking gosu, and then they die because they aren't playing THEIR kind of game anymore.

Incredible marine control there. So many of them were in the red, but MajOr's control was immaculate. Very Korean series from MajOr, both in build orders and execution.

Because they inevitably compare themselves to Mvp and find themselves lacking.

This is actually the first premier tournament in 2014 where Terran is the most represented race in the Ro16.

The other races will adapt. I'm not worried at all, in fact the game is in a great state. Can't remember one game since the widow mine buff / time warp nerf where I thought "God, if this/that wasn't in the game, no way this player wins against this player". I hope this meta and balance state will be given some time to grow and evolve.

The full KR group and the full T group are definitely the more interesting. Group A and C seem a bit less strong, but I'm very happy with the drawings overall, we'll have some exciting games for sure.
Scarlett/HerO or Scarlett/viOlet Jaedong/TaeJa Bomber/Jim Some random two Terrans, Polt/Heart, let's go with Koreans.
On the other hand, this Ro8 have big chance to have 0 Protosses if Check doesn't mess up and HerO will blow in PvZ. And Pigbaby will either win whole season again to show power of KeSPA or just crash.

I'd rather just have group selections. At least the players have some control over it, and makes some interesting callouts, and if there's a group of death it's at least some of their own making.

I believe Rotti said that group of Terrans was September 10th... and judging by how they went last season (Tues/Wed) I think it's safe to assume those will be the dates for the Ro16

Agreed. A lot of interesting stuff was potentially lost here. But they would have to make all the players fly in early or they would not let the players have enough practice time.

Well, we have much better chances than last season with twice as many nonkoreans at this stage in the tournament. I think we have pretty good chances of getting at least one foreigner.

They are entertaining, but they don't really work for WCS America since everyone is all over the world.

Well, we have much better chances than last season with twice as many nonkoreans at this stage in the tournament. I think we have pretty good chances of getting at least one foreigner.

They are entertaining, but they don't really work for WCS America since everyone is all over the world.
Probably could of just Skyped or IM or something. The GSL has no excuse though, bring back the group selections. Why were they replaced with random draws anyways.

I guess it's because the players don't want to bother with that anymore Maybe something to do with Kespa having the vast majority of players in Code S, compared to before? I don't even remember the last time it was done...

The GSL cancelled group selections because Mr. Chae thought that letting PartinG cause all the fan favourites to commit mutual suicide was a bad idea. I agree with you that from a viewer perspective tey are overwhelmingly superior. As to WCS America, I just don't think its feasible. With all the different time zones and the difficulty in arranging so many connections without technological problems. I honestly don't think the banter and the fun would be there through Skype. You really need everyone in one room, which WCS America cannot do.

But that doesn't make sense really, group selections existed since BW and has been a staple.

That's kind of a ridiculous reason for no group selections in the GSL if true lol

Pretty sure group selections are back this season actually.
I don't know how he does it but huk always has amazing group luck drawing the easiest group again. The guy is blessed somehow. His nickname of Luk is well deserved.
