Why anyone thinks Protoss is supposed to be played a different way is beyond me, its almost unbeatable. That's because Rain is simply better than every toss by a significant amount. His control, multitasking and most importantly positioning make him such a tough nut to crack. Most Protoss could have done that exact game rain just played, at least the ones in Korea. Most korean protoss easily have the mechanics to play that style. In fact, going for any aggression as protoss can be more taxing mechanically. He literally sat in his base just macroing up, never had to defend against any drops because his build was airtight with the late 3rd base. Which is why Maru if he wants to win here needs to force Rain into something by taking an earlier third or by hitting him hard early neglecting upgrades. If he lets Rain tech to both techs freely then Rain can devote all his focus to his army, and he's really good with late game armies.

Why anyone thinks Protoss is supposed to be played a different way is beyond me, its almost unbeatable. The hard call is on Terrans part. I am on Teamspeak with several Protoss - no one could clearly tell if its a super safe macro build or a timing. Its that hard to make that call, even if you have complete information. I believe Maru should take the risk and go piss greedy, because other than that, he will not win vs a super safe rain. given the fact that rain even took a 4th i thought it's super safe macro. Oh you are smart, so after he took his 3rd and then 4th you called its a macrogame? The crucial time is before he takes his third. The difference between an allin timing and safe macro really is just +2 / +3 gates or the nexus. Before he puts down the 3rd nexus, you cannot know. Thats the hard part. Obviously if he puts it down at 13:30 its macro, but how the hell do you know beforehand. As mentioned, the correct response would be greed / early 3rd and 4th for Terran but he will hit the timing if he spots it.

Why anyone thinks Protoss is supposed to be played a different way is beyond me, its almost unbeatable. Some players have different playstyles that they prefer. Not everyone is good at making an airtight defense. sOs wouldn't really be too good if he played like this, he plays to his strength, which is wonky builds and better strategies/decisions. Rain is definitely the best toss right now though. I can understand people wanting to play different ways, It's just surprising we don't see more protoss at least play this way. IMO it is superior to any aggressive play. Why roll the dice in the early game when their is an advantage for Protoss in the late game? Makes no sense. Obviously some aggressive play works like in sOs's case, I just don't think its as good in general.

Too turtley for my taste. It's my issue with watching starcraft. Macro into one battle win is boring from an observer point of view. If you don't think it is, it's because you are understanding at a higher level. The average joe doesn't care about things not dying. Yes but it is not always the case... TvZ with bio+ widow mine against ling bane muta has tons of back and forth engagements when terran tries to kill the 4th.. But yes TvP macro games are incredibly boring to watch, especially if you have somebody like Rain in it. Indeed, playing too safe in TvZ can backfire quite seriously for both Terran and Zerg. I don't know whether or not this is the case in TvP however.
