Frankly, the Dragon invitation and Playhem sponsorship disgusts me.
It's not that he said he didn't want to play professionally, it's that he said he WOULDN'T.
As soon as he reneged on his word and qualified for GSL Open Season 3, and there was a big mess about it I thought he'd learn his lesson, but apparently not.
The least he could do is come out and SAY that he's going back on his word and playing in tournaments again, rather than just doing it.

I hate to disagree but I think hes one of the people who deserve to be on there... The tournament is supposed to have 16 of the worlds best players, yet I see incontrol, destiny and as much as I hate to say it ony on there...

looks like a great event but looking at the field so far this looks like stephano is in a class of his own compared to the other invites. maybe dragon can beat him but i havent seen much of his play so i cant comment ;o

maybe he doesnt see a US lan as going back to pro gaming? its not like this has the top top player field associated with gsl or anything so it wouldnt be unreasonable for him to see this as different to professional stuff.

It is still playing for a $10,000 prize pool though. He's playing with professionals gamer, being sponsored as a professional gamer. In my opinion, there is really no excuse in terms of him going back on his words.
Like Virgil said, I would've liked some kind of announcement. Can't really take what Dragon says seriously anymore . . .

No need to concern yourself with what he does, really. He's just a dishonest "pro" gamer. I'm not complaining cause I don't want him to play, I'm complaining cause his spot could've gone to someone better. I don't care what Dragon does, as long as it's not on my PC screen. Oh well, I'll just have to accept it this one time. I can't see him playing in any other tournaments anytime soon, anyway.

I hope SaSe will be invited as well! He and Demuslim did a good job representing the NA scene at the Winter Arena, being the only two players who were able to take a bo3 set from players outside the NA scene.

We're looking forward to the addition of his great commentary and expert analysis. Good! Excellent. He makes a terrific pair with Mr. Bitter. However, I highly question the decision to invite Dragon. If this is just to get some drama, it's not very classy. (but probably very effective) I mean, there are a hundred other progamers more deserving than him. And he stated he doesn't even want to be a progamer after his cheating scandal.
It's kind of sad that a lot of people keep bringing up the fact that Dragon said something after his cheating scandal. He proved and demonstrated time and time again that he has no intention on quitting progaming, or else he wouldn't have participated in Playhem or MSI Pro Cup and other small tournaments up to date. He explicitly mentioned multiple times on twitter that he was looking for a foreign team; I believe a lot of people quickly refer to the liquipedia page and don't really follow up on events after that. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but he has again and again apologized for what happened and has been building his way ground up. The decision to include him in this tournament also includes the fact that he has a large passionate fan base which can support e-sports as a whole, that's not something that can be argued. It wasn't meant to generate drama in any sense. In addition, I personally believe he's an underdog who doesn't get much publicity.
There are a lot of other players who have also been invited to the tournament, but a lot of it also depends on who has the sponsorship to attend. Playhem initiated the offer to support Dragon at this tournament in addition to his attendance at the upcoming IPL4. In addition, it made sense to support Dragon in this tournament because Lone Star and IPL4 are only about two weeks apart in date.
Please support a fellow player who's really trying to contribute to e-sports. I feel like Dragon paid the price more than enough in regards to his past. He had the support of one of the best teams in Korea after that, and they had a good reason to support him or else they wouldn't have taken him under their wing. Despite what a lot of people think, Dragon is a humble player who gets misunderstood often and he really is going to try his best in proving himself through these two tournaments.
Thanks<3

Dragon fighting!
Edit: Give Dragon a chance, the cheating incident dates back to 2010 and I think it's fair after so long without being in a tournament to give him a chance to redeem himself. C'mon, 2010? Really, he hasn't shown any sign of malicious intent while streaming every day. Also, why question his invitation? He's shown time and time again recently that he's just as capable of performing at tournaments. He's held Rank 1 GM on NA for a while before and as much as people want to down play NA servers for the skill level, there's no question that Rank 1 GM is a major feat for regardless of region. Give him a chance.

The event and associated organizations running the event's responsibility is to try their absolute best to deliver the most exciting and entertaining event they possibly can.
Dragon is extremely popular and has a very large fan base. If his fans want to see him compete in tournaments, and he himself would also like to compete in those tournaments, then it isn't an event organizer's place to hold him to his previous statements or promises, it is his own responsibility.
Just as you may see his invite as a disgrace because of your opinion of Dragon as a player and as a person, others will see not inviting him for that same reason to be unfair to his fans.
In the end, the organizations hosting an event's primary responsibility is to deliver the absolute highest quality and entertaining content they can. The ethics of players is something that teams or sponsors representing and sending players to tournaments should be concerned with, not the tournament organizers themselves.

I really enjoy watching Dragon's stream, getting to see him compete live is going to be amazing

As his Public Relations manager, I can't imagine it would be difficult to have him release some sort of statement on the matter, or get an interview opportunity for him to discuss the matter. I think if the last few days have proven anything it's that Dragon's fanbase is incredibly fanatical, and can draw quite the crowd.

After the Playhem fiasco, Dragon suddenly found himself a sponsor that is willing to send him to Texas and Vegas. Who would turn that down? I personally think that Playhem panicked and went too far in sponsoring Dragon, but Dragon is not someone who will turn that kind of opportunity down.
I was always uncomfortable when Dragon was on Slayers. Even though he was not a competitive player for them, I still felt uncomfortable that a former stream cheater was on Slayers Boxer's team. I do think that with someone as important to Esports as Boxer, it is important for Slayers to maintain a higher level of professionalism and integrity (thus the Coca reaction).
Now that Dragon is off Slayers, I still feel a bit uncomfortable with him taking a spot from other players, but I am willing to forgive him if he does not have any other problems. TT1, Dimaga, Spades, F91, Choya, and even Haypro (albeit unintentionally) have all been caught hacking, cheating, or guilty of ladder abuse, but the community has largely forgiven all of them. I'm all for second chances, and if Dragon can keep up his good behavior, I think there would not be too much issue with him competing.

Do you not use logic? If he participated in the MSI Pro Cup, Playhem dailies, is scheduled for IPL4 & now this, I'm pretty sure that screams "I'm not holding off on my career." Just to satisfy you, I will have his liquipedia page updated. As for interviews, etc. If Quantic would like to hold an interview with Dragon I can easily schedule one.
If you type in Dragon's twitter + foreign team, I'm sure his past tweets would pop up regarding "foreign team blahblahblah" it's not exactly hidden, but okay
Will take your advice and have an official statement released regarding Dragon's stance on gaming. Thanks.
People need to stop with this whole "Dragon took another player's spot" Quantic and I will both confirm it. We did not choose Dragon over another player. Playhem also did not overcompensate. This event is close in terms of scheduling with IPL4 and it seemed like a good opportunity to do both PR for Playhem and Dragon. Please read all the post in this thread instead of making me repeat myself. Thanks!

Dragon has done some very stupid things. but(!) that's quite some time ago. I think he has changed. We all should give him a chance to prove himself.

This seems like the sort of thing it would be your job to make sure is pretty public and noticeable. If you'd like however, I'd be happy to talk to some friends of mine at various eSports news outlets and arrange some interviews for Dragon to officially announce his return to professional gaming.

Virgil you really need to work on your own personal PR. You have recently come out of a lot of threads as extremely abrasive and uninformed on multiple assumptions. Then turn the issue around from yourself when in reality all of these discussions could have taken place over PM with full cooperation. I don't know why you have to turn your assumptions and throw around "your contacts" in a public thread when this thread is mean't for the promotion of eSports and Lone Star Clash. This isn't the first time you've done this and I can imagine it wont be the last. Please understand that sometimes you won't know everything and it doesn't hurt to ask through a PM if you really want to know for the benefit of eSports or just plain curiosity. Yuna does an excellent job for Quantic and doesn't need your condescending comments such as "This seems like the sort of thing it would be your job to make sure is pretty public and noticeable."
Back on topic.... I am really glad Rotterdam could make it after all :D
