The sixth season of the Intel Extreme Masters is running for a good three months now and our Global Challenges at gamescom (Germany), in Guangzhou (China) and New York (USA) are finished. Next up is Ukraine's capital: Kiev! It will be our second time hosting a tournament in the Kiev CyberSport Arena. Here is a video of the venue from last year:

This thread focuses on the qualifiers for Europe, America and Asia.

That's good news - except for the shit talking of course. When I talk shit at your event I got busted by the man himself.
Hmm, I thought the last qualifier would have the 32 players and then 7 out of those would get to Kiev? Yet a lot of the players who qualified from the first stage is at it again, what have I missed?

Haypro is out! MaNa cannot participate because of his travel to the NASL finals... Elfi slept through round 1 and finds himself in the loser bracket after being woken up by Naama. Let's see if he can still pull through.

( Seems like you avoid Toss players in the lower bracket. Good luck! Huge fan of your play <3
Ah. I was so confused as to why there were 8 European qualified spots while there were far fewer for the other regions. Then I looked at IEM New York on a suspicion, and I saw that you guys gave 8 spots to Americans in that one. Makes a lot more sense now.
Sad to see Haypro out. I always hate when a Liquid player is knocked out. But gogo White-Ra!
so stupid of sjow not playing a straight up macro game. he was incredibly far behind game 3 and still managed to pull off a fight when he started to stop playing 1 base shit. probably would have roflstomped bling without those ridiculously bad first 10 minutes.

Each Global Challenge has a continental flavour to it. Host continent gets 50% of all slots, incl. 1 for the host country champion.
Why do I not live in Kiev? Wtf? I lived in Kiev in my younger years and then moved away for some reason... I need to think about moving back to Kiev after I've done studying, if it survives Euro 2012 medley.

The GSL schedule is too packed for qualifiers to make sense - most of the players that are sponsored are tied up in Code A/S. Which leaves invitations for now.
such a big event without updated results or any kind of some explanation... i can't belive it.. can someone please update it because I don't know how some players didn't make it to top32. Who won against haypro? I don't understand this system. I wasn't online last few days so I don't know anything about this. I'm counting last 16 player in that unfinished bracket but most of them aren't in final top32
some update and explanation? please, this is not some small tournament
I'm trying to keep the OP clean as possible, that's why the very first stage of the qualifiers is missing: the national qualifiers. From those qualifiers the very best get into stage 3 rightaway, the others are split up into stage 2 and 1. The last qualifier has the top 16 from stage 2 and the top 16 from the national qualifiers.
HayprO lost twice in stage 2, the bracket is linked in the OP. It is not unfinished btw, the top 16 advanced. No need to keep playing after WB round 4/LB round 5.

According to the ESL-page a guy named "Znow" is participating in stage 3 (European Qualifiers) but he did´nt qualify. Does someone know, who he is and why he got an invitation?
He won the Swedish national qualifier. That's why he received a slot in the stage 3 qualifier (like Socke for winning the German EPS, Tefel who won the Polish EPS etc.).

Looking at the player list for the european qualifier we might just get 7 protosses to Kiev xD How exactly do you get the 7 players when it's a roX format?

No, sorry. I don't think we ever did something like that, though.
As for the top 7 from the stage 3 EU qualifier:
The two players in WB round 5 and the two players in LB round 7 will be the EU top seeds for Kiev (each of them in his own group). The two losers of LB 6 get slots #5 and #6 and the last slot is determined by a match for 7th place (between the two losers of LB 5).

sYz was unable to play today. Team BLAST approached me and asked if Krr (who played in stage 2) could take his spot and since no Portuguese replacement could be found on such short notice I agreed. So this is actually Krr playing instead of sYz.
Shouldn't even be a draw, this doesn't make sense. He has 0 supply and nothing, just because buildings can "float" in a corner, doesn't mean anything. Beasty should be manner and gg.
Either a patch to disable Terran buildings from flying "off map" to a point where they cannot be shot from ground units OR a specific rule for this. I.E.- Whoever has more Army Supply standing at the end of this baserace. Since Terran can just abuse their mechanic and float something in the corner in what would have been an otherwise lost position to force a "draw". He lost his cloaked banshee, that was his chance to win if he wanted to sit in the corner and regen energy and pick off all of Hasuobs' buildings.
People shouldn't be laughing at this, this seriously has to be addressed. Him forcing a draw on a "technicality" - he LOST THE GAME. He had the cloaked banshee, that was the winning move. He sniped the pylons so Hasu couldn't build an observer. This is seriously a disgrace in my opinion. I lose respect to Terran players who do this. If I could cloak a building inside creep as hive tech, and you could never hit it, would that also force a draw if I have 0 supply but this cloaked building hiding in creep. That would be stupid.
Beasty must be enjoying this haha, I bet he was pretty frustrated about how the game panned out after he firmly dominated most of it. Then the genius banshees to save a base trade lol

There was about a hundred topics of this already on Battle.net. Moral of the story: make a fucking flying unit.
If Hasu had tried to make a Phoenix, it wouldn't have worked anyway. By the time his Robo came up, he was deeply supply blocked. He would have had to move commanded forever by the Banshee to get down to low enough supply to make a Phoenix, and by that time Beasty would no doubt realize what was going on.
Beasty was smart by going for the pylons and Nexus as opposed to any army units or probes.
I think a patch could fix this... Like terran buildings can only fly for 4 ingame minutes at a time and then have to reload heir flying ability. Call it propulsion systems battery or something like that and it even would add realism^^

There's nothing to 'fix'.
Make flying units or enjoy the threat of a draw.
EDIT: He can also kill his own units to make room for supply. Did not need the HTs or colossus or zealots.

It can and has happened before without a terran, although it is even less likely.
Ocassionally you see a Protoss player without an army/economy but with too many static photons cannons left for a zerg player which has run out of hatcheries/funds to attack.

Wasn't he supplycapped and even unable to make an observer?
He could have teamkilled his colossus which were useless by then anyway. He couldn't have built a pheonix however, not enough minerals. An observer would have been doable though, and would have been needed if Beasty hadn't screwed up his banshee control.

Exactly, Beasty had the game WINNING move with the cloaked banshee. If he just wanted to sit in the corner for 5 minutes regen energy and pick off buildings there should be NO PROBLEM WITH THAT. You do what you can to WIN. This on the other hand, is doing what you can to abuse mechanics and force a draw. Terran forced lift-offs, should be removed as a draw scenario, period.
what exaclty are the different stages that are listed on the front page? why are hasu and beasty still fighting each other when they are already qualified according to the first page? why are there no invited players from stage 1+2, which are apparently finished, while the four remaining players of the unfinished stage 3 are qualified?

Yep, that's how I always see Korean Terrans struggle on Tal'Darim to gateway pressure after they FE. Toss runs by bunkers, warps in from low ground and completely denies mining + forces T to fight outside the bunkers.
Why would Hasu do that? He never 4gates, he has no experience with it to execute it properly. maybe he doesnt want to play anymore after that ridiculous game before.
No, get more ahead doesn't work in TvP lol, if you let Hasu get back into this you can easily lose a max vs max fight if you mismicro, poor Beasty he'll be hella tilted if he loses this now =(
Well, we're in the same situation as last game, Beasty ahead on econ and upgrades with appropriate tech all the time but not feeling comfortable to attack the Toss army.

Engaging lategame Protoss is kind of hard. You can't risk doing it badly in situations like this because of the warp in mechanic coupled with late game bank. Beasty bored to death, don't blame him xD

Yes I know this, but he had so many good opportunities to engage, and never did. His strategy is literally to just wait for the opponent to attack him at his base, even though there were many opportunities to engage and come out ahead. In game 1 he was ahead for pretty much the whole game, but then played so passive, and giving up excellent engage opportunities. Really pathetic from Beasty tbh, I think he's just boring us on purpose.
BeastyQT, putting it nicely, is a jerk. Forces a draw where he screwed up the game when he could have won, then continues to troll Hasu for no reason. A blemish on what is an amazingly run and casted tournament. Bitterdam is great

BeastyQQ or BeastyTT would fit better. Being incredible BM in the first game with that undeserved draw and then crying after losing the 2nd game all on his own is really rediculous.

Decent FF will turn that advantage into game lost.
Hasu lost almost all his units. No possible way to turn that around, even with godlike FFs. Stop being in denial. Terran have an extremely opportune moment to end the game.

People really need to stop bitching, obviously he didn't care about the games as you can see from all 3 he had a huge advantage and loss them on purpose, he already qualified for IEM which can explain why, top 4 games were for seeding only

No, Beasty needs 1 more win I think
No, he's in.
Edit: This is who qualifies:
DIMAGA HasuObs Feast Beastyqt Winner of (Znow vs Socke/Diestar) vs (Titan vs Nightend) Winner of (Grubby vs Strelok) vs (Lowely vs Pomi) Winner of the loser between those two games.
For example, say Socke beats Diestar and Znow, and Titan beats Nightend. And say Grubby beats Strelok and Lowely beats Pomi. Then say Socke beats Titan and Grubby beats Lowely. Grubby and Socke are in. Titan and Lowely would play for the last spot.
"he was passive whole game", I tried to attack at 10min he had charge and small ramp with 4 sentry, you cant attack there so I went back, did drop, too bad I dont have map hack to see if he got blink or not after each time I tried to attack he went to basetrade,
joke in that game was that he did fail 4g and still can play a macro game but if people who are writing crap to me had a clue about game they would probably know what happened in game

It wasnt possible for you to drop at more than one location at once. Or drop at all after your first ones. To combine nukes and drops. To walk around the ramp and come from the third to surprise him with stim. Just a few things you could have done instead of bm hasu... Btw you can play macro game after a 3rax aswell (if you dont pull SCV'S). Oh wait, mules...

Even if he was passive all game, he just seems to be stronger than you. If staying calm is the strategy he wins with, it's completely legit. There's no reason to BM a better player.

The thing is... you LET HIM get all of that. Everything. And you have scans, no excuse at all.
Just come out with. You bored 17k viewers on purpose. You knew 3 casters and an entire production crew were streaming for over 24 hours straight. Hugely disrespectful.

To be fair, you did seem to slowly lose a hold on the game as the game went on. Due in part to passivity but Hasu plays a very good defensive style so its hard to really push in on him. Nukes were a cool idea though always fun to see those.

Why are you all being huge douchebags to Beasty? The draw was legit, if you weren't entertained by that I don't know what to tell you. Yeah, he BM'd, then went mass reaper, but hell that's fun to see too.

Give him a break, jesus.
He took 2 hours to throw 2 games. He doesn't deserve a break for that.
And I can't believe you bring up the White-Ra vs MMA match lol... he met with MMA afterward on stream and told him he was joking, to which MMA said he already knew. Got any more examples?
WhiteRa also didn't BM the whole esports community by wasting 2 hours of everyone's time and making 3 casters who are streaming straight 24 hours wait even longer. You BMing Hasu after those games looks much worse.

Oh, and my money for EU is on Titan, HasuObs, ToD, Grubby, DIMAGA, Bling and White Ra. Maybe Socke over White Ra.
To answer this if I decide not to go we go down the list of qualifiers. Currently it looks like:
Yang (not going) iaguz (probably wont' go) PiG (99% sure can't go) Pokerface (99.999999999999999999999999999999% sure he can't go) Mafia (already confirmed he doesn't wanna go) Ender (Probably will, after he got screwed by his fucking embassy out of going to WCG) Tgun (Won't go) Glade (probably would go)
And failing that we'd probably just send TargA cuz he's in Norway right now and that makes sense.

wtf mate, last time we talked you said you'd come.
Don't make me come to Australia and kick your ass all the way to Kiev.
He had to qualify, if i remember well, via a national cup on ESL faceing the best players of Belgium ( LLL Orly, ELVIS and Spoon who are in GM if i'm not mistaken ).
Then, after winning it, he was seeded in the Stage 1 qualifiers. He stayed in the winner bracket and qualified for Stage 2. There, he stayed in the winner bracket and qualified for Stage 3 (yesterday's cup) where he only lost to Dimaga.
That's a sick amount of tournament just to get invited to Kiev... As a reminder, Feast is top 15 GM on EU and has 2 accounts in top50 (used to have 3 accounts in GM)...
The guy is not even featured on TL and made 14.000+ viewers in less than a month on his stream !
yes, it was a big show and TaKe lost the match 1-2 :D
Weeks before that, there was another Showmatch:
Rotterdam (1hand) vs TaKe in a bo1 Rotterdam won with proxy voidray vs marodeurs
what?TaKe isnt mid/high master in eu ladder?im surprised...
he has over 1000 points at master, so yeah, he is mid/high master. rotti has 1.1k with 220 bonuspool though, and back then, take was worse than now + it was a bo loss^^
Pretty sick line up thus far. Dimaga, HasuObs, Feast, Beasty, Titan, Pomi, Grubby, DDE, Killer and Kas could take games off anybody.
I feel like there will be one non-Korean invite from Korea, probably Naniwa or Huk. There won't be any MC, DRG or Puma, since they are already qualified for the world championship. My bet would be on two well known and a lesser known Korean. MKP, ForGG/Nada and someone like Lucky. I doubt they'll invite a Protoss considering how many there are already.
And if the Chinese player is an invite, I'm guessing it'll be XiGua, F91 or MacSed, based on WCG.

I'd play, but I didn't play in the qualifiers and it'd depend on a few things, I just didn't expect to go because I had personal things happen during the quals.
Can anyone tell me, how the seeding works? I assume each group consists of 1 Top-4-Euro, 1 Bottom-4-Euro, 1 Korean and one Chinese/American/SEA-Player. If that is correct, is Kas part of the better or the worse euro-seeds?
OP should be updated the top 8 finalists from the SEA qualifier have since all declined the position due to schedule conflicts and visa issues, so looks like a new player needs to be found

There are plenty of Norwegians that are from places like Somalia, Eritrea, Afghanistan, Iraq, Sudan, etc.
