You'd figure after Genius's complete dismantling by Top last season and Hongun's being completely slaughtered by July that these two being knocked out wouldn't come as too huge of a shock considering guys like Alicia and MC were already being knocked down. Poor Puzzle though. If he had been in Hongun's group I'm sure he would have advanced. Group B was just too much. Puzzle did pick Bomber... I agree though, Genius and Hongun have just been hanging on to their Code S spots forever it seems. Genius does have a tendency to surprise occasionally though.

We were whining when MC and Alicia couldn't get past their group. Others responded by saying "you still have Genius/HongUn/Sangho yet to play quit whining". So here we are. They played, and they got demolished. All protosses = last place of their groups.

What IM lacks in quantity of players they more than make up for in quality. Every single 1 of them making it out of group play.
Team kills comming up now. Happy vs Losira and a potential MVP vs Nestea match on the otherside of the bracket.

even if colossi are vulnerable, there's still a higher chance to transition into 3rd base + templar-tech-switch than other way round; going late colossi almost never works because you just can't get the numbers...templar, on the other hand, can be warped in by a bunch once the tech is done
even the double forge mass-upgrade-style seemed more viable, since it could afford to throw away tons of chargelots while saving the stalkers with blink..... Most games involving mass collosus come down to a single engagement. If the collosus survive, protoss wins. If the collosus die, the opponent wins. With templar there is always a chance you can come back since you can mass produce them from gateways. If you go collosus tech, you have to slowly build collosus again while completely losing map control. Also, big maps are really bad for collosus since they do well in chokes. The GSL maps are really big compared to what they used to be. In short though, mass collosus is too risky, too easily scoutable, and too easily counterable. Actually thinking about it further, the nerf to KA affected this quite a bit. In the past, you could go mass collosus and get storm/KA so that once all your collosus die, you can replace them with templar. Templar were also used for defensive purposes. Without defensive templar, it's even riskier to leave your base with your ball. But it's still weird because it's AFTER the KA nerf (well, removal) this templar play really picked up. Also for whatever reason they don't transition to robo even when they have money. When I watched Alicia v. Select, I was waiting and waiting for Alicia to build a robo. He had like 2K/1K banked up yet refused to build a robo even for observers. There were some nice games in last seasons code A where toss opened with templars on 2 base then transitioned to colossus once 3rd and 4th were taken. But it's hard to see such transitions these days. Why? the bolded VS ghost timing + korean T micro = ?

Well I think there's something to be said at this point about the increasing level of competition in the GSL.
Guys like Hongun who rely almost entirely on timing attacks are finally being driven out just like Anypro before him, meanwhile legit Protoss players like Huk and Puzzle are either being trapped in groups with an obscene level of competition in it, or else cheesed out. All in all it's not pretty to watch, but we'll just have to see what next season holds for the Protoss of the GSL. Once the up and downs have said their piece I'm sure we'll see a much different line up next season.

I'm sure next GSL will look alot different, at least if you think more terrans and Huk is different. Unless an up/down group has 4 Protoss, it's not unlikely none of them will make it through. And even if they do they won't fare any better in Code S. Hopefully Sage and JYP make it to Code S so when they get owned people will stop telling us to build warp prisms.

you know terrans awesome when its still the round of 32 and theres already a terran in the semifinals

Genius and Hongun is nothing to whine about. MC and Alicia though.. ><"
Edit: Very surprised Jjakji didn't make it through, I thought he was gonna 2-0. I rather have liked to see him advance than Happy.

All great high tier players, but not top tier
HAhahaha... are you serious?
Who would you have in this group thats better? MVP, bomber, nestea. Aside from them I can't think of much better players and wouldn't it suck if they all were in the same group. Imo this group is sick cus most all of its members could make it to semis as most of them have.

In spite of my brotoss patriotism, at least part of me is glad HongUn and Genius are finally getting sent where they belong. But, at the same time, sad zealot is very sad right now.

OK, the announcer voice for protoss players is so bad ass I get semi-hard everytime. I would just DIE if I could change the voices in-game to something like that

I totally agree.

So happy for Leenock, like always! More proud of the guy by the day. Finally advanced out of Code A into Code S and already made it into round of 16. Hopeing he gets pure ZvT for the rest of the tourney, maybe he'd have a change.

exactly, but they're not top because they're not MVP or Nestea level

Sooner or later, it will be only Terran and Zerg left in GSL.

let's hope not. variety is a good thing!

You guys do realize that code A has so many protosses and the up and downs are already flooded with new protoss players along with the players that have dropped down. There will definitely be protoss in the next season if not more.

man... am i the only one that cant tvp.

haha because the Protoos in Code A are what dropped from Code S. We will see but if no protoss go to Code S through up and down(which may happen as so far No protoss have gone up through it since it came into force) Only HuK in code S, and the bracket for Code A brings up a few PvP's first round we could even start seeing a exodus from Code A, as SaSe and nani both say start balancing this game for the elite in korea not for random plat and diamonds on america and europe.

I didn't see the MC and Alicia games, but Hongun and Genius fell down because they fucked up, and MC went full retard choosing MVP in the first round of code S and played crap against Monster.
Feeling sorry for your protoss brethren is ok when they're not actively sabotaging for themselves.
Maybe it's a conspiracy by them all to get protoss buffed by collectively getting kicked out of GSL.
