Play one part each day, which each gives 2/8 top8 players. After 4 days you have the 8 players ready for next season. And on the 5th day, play the final 8 for the final spot. All players would only have to commit to 1day each (depending on bracket part) plus the final day should they reach top 8. Tbh i think that would be more interesting as a viewer too, all days would hold some really important games. Are they streaming any of the open tournament? What's the plan in regards to coverage? 1024 players is a lot of games! To be honest I don't usually follow many online tournaments/qualifiers, and could live without watching StrifeCo smash DarkMatrixDestroyer1485 in round 1.

So everything past round of 64 has the potential to be cast by the NASL.

Players eliminated from S1 are not eligible for the "Open Tourney". But they can re-qualify for S2 in the "Next Season Qualifier". The "Next Season Qualifier" apparently will take place the week after the "Open Tourney". Just imagine for a moment the capital and operating expenses to run a single season of this tournament. The staff. The equipment. The studio space. Travel and accommodation. Administration. Event space. Food and entertainment. And of course, the prize pool, a huge and untouchable pot of money that represents a significant risk. How much do you think someone like InControl or Gretorp deserves to be paid? What's their salary? Even if they were making only $2000/month -- or close to minimum wage -- the maximum amount that could be made of this online tournament wouldn't cover their salaries for 1 season. You would have to run 20 open online qualifiers before you made a profit off of them. The fee obviously exists to deter 14-year-old Silver and Gold leaguers from wasting people's time, as well as offset some of their own expenses. NASL is not unique in regards to entry fees. MLG has already set a worse precedent, where you can essential 'buy' points in their point system for $7 dollars. Now THAT is silly. Once NASL starts charging a $100 entry fee, than we can start talking. But $10 is hardly a malicious or exploitative fee in the grand scheme of things. I just wanted to say thank you for introducing some calm, rational truth into this thread. A $10 entry fee for a big tournament is cheap. Maybe even so cheap that someone like me (who's downright terrible) would consider entering for the sake of pot-monstering* and maybe seeing if I can take a round just to say I did. *"pot-monstering" is when people who don't have a chance of winning enter a tournament anyway. It's actually a good thing -- adds to the scene, increases the money available to the tournament, and gives all the players more chance to establish the true level of their skill. It might become a bad thing if the pot-monsters were crowding out spots that could otherwise be taken by people with a much better chance of winning. I hope NASL can successfully accommodate players who want to participate in Dreamhack as well.

Almost 1/3 of the hits for registration are from TL (look at "References"). Is TL really the only big SC2 site? I knew gosugamers as I watched Dota replays, but this amount of hits from TL links is just stunning for me. It is enough to spend (too) much time every day, but I´m curious if there are other big sites... thanks for answers, and sorry to post off topic ![]()

Currently, I am not watching NASL that frequently, because I think that there are some people in there that do not deserve to be there. But I really, really really like the whole tournament structure and after a couple of seasons where the bad players have been weeded out and better players take their place, this will more than likely become my second favorite regular tournament (behind the new GSTL, because team leagues are awesome, and before the regular GSL)!

No disrespect to the other players, but a Code S player could probably take down that entire field right now.

Some players are going to luck their way in with easy bracket sections while others while get screwed with their section. there is no perfect tournament system, plus these is variance in starcraft 2, so yeah it doesn't matter if the best 8 players from the tournament don't make it

Yeah, I totally agree. I really do think this tournament structure, over time, will reward the best and most consistent players.
