Basically it's going to prevent crappy people from hitting a bit lucky in the brackets and not having to fight any known names *cough destiny IPL 2 cough*.

Charge $50. Make it a bo5 double-elimination. Expect roughly 50 well qualified people to participate. As-is, a single elimination bo3 is not going to get the best players. I've never seen a large online tourney with this structure that didn't have several scrubs in the top 8. By scrubs I don't mean talented unknown players, I mean players who get on a hot streak or lucky brackets. You guys are going to feature 8 of these players for 3 months. The best way of getting great qualifiers is the way TSL did it, with 8 TL opens, but I understand if that is too much work. Still, if you are letting 1 tournament decide 8 spots, the tournament should have a robust tournament format (at least double-elim).

Ten bucks doesn't sound like an exorbitant amount; however, I'm reading other posts, that take exception to it, prior to avilo's post, and since, but their posts weren't singled out. Funny. Frankly, I think he had a legitimate question, which, since others asked, was answered, I guess. And Maestro, the players don't pay a fee to play in the NBA, NFL, MLS, do they? I guess your reasoning was lost on me. Obviously, you can't run a business without showing a profit. Someone has to pay the salaries and "upkeep." But I'm reading that this isn't the norm. So, am I correct in my assumption that this is the first time an "open" tournament is charging an entrance fee, or am I wrong?

Obviously, they want to make $10k out of this online qualification. Production value is just the same as any youtube caster, with a PC and a microphone.

Its completely non standard

I'd hate to see other tournaments start charging for entry into their "open tournaments." At people saying they don't want to make money...uh...they do want the money out of your pocket, that's why they have the gaul to make it $10 entry. Anyways...I think it's a pretty bad idea, especially with how people will be seeded or not seeded. They will handpick seeds, just like they handpicked the original first 50 nasl people... How will seeding work exactly? Avilo, I promise to sponsor 20% of your entry fee, or two whole dollars. All you have to do now is find four other strangers to give you two dollars and you're set. As a primary sponsor, I expect some form of brand recognition. Preferably my name drawn with a black sharpie on a t-shirt you found in a dumpster behind the 7-11.

This tournament is so you can get a chance to compete with the guys who have been playing for the last 8-9 weeks! (and they might not even get in.... ) If you don't feel like its fair... no one is making you pay or play. This is basically a tournament so anyone left out during the selection for the divisions can get in if they put in some effort (beat 1023 people) That I think makes up for not playing the last 8-9 weeks. Then hopefully a good player will come from it and compete decently against those that make it through to the final 16. Thank god for the $10 dollar entrance fee. It seems to be working wonders to stop the scrubs dead in their tracks.

His issue isnt that he has to pay 10 dollars, its that nasl is arrogant enough to charge money for an online tournament, setting the standard that charging for tournaments is acceptable when in the past it hasnt been. If you offer to pay 20% of everyone that wants to play then you can start talking
