This! It's a smart move, considering top 8 qualify is already fucked up and random I'm glad not too many random people will participate with this fee in place

I am astounded at the level of stupidity shown by most posters.
They want to weed out weaker players, they are using a "massive" (lol) 10 dollar fee as the means.
As stated, if you have a problem with the fee you have no chance of winning.

Your going to charge me, for the opportunity to play in your tournament? Excuse me? Someone needs an ass kicking. Absolutely 0 respect for the e-sports community. This is a giant kick in the face to Competitors. We make your tournament and you want us to pay you. I was really looking forward to this.. and out of principal i may not give in. I just thought that... maybe some of my games.. my contribution to playing in this tournament would be enough.. but apparently you want $10 as well.
EDIT--Biggest copy paste fail ever.

I might pay the $10 just to potentially play and get my butt kicked by a pro . Should I die with clever cheese or just get owned in a macro game? Hmmm, so many choices.

And no profits shouldnt be made off the open bracket, it should be made off their advertising.
It's 10,000$ for a 1,500$ prize pool, if you consider the 500$ traveling refund for the winner.

And no profits shouldnt be made off the open bracket, it should be made off their advertising. I'm under the impression you do not understand the concept behind a buisness. I would like to hear your logical argument as to why they should not profit (or charge $10 for that matter) off the open bracket. It helps to weed out the players who do not necessarily think they stand a chance. They also need to pay the admins since organizing and running a 1024 person tourny does take people's time and I can assure you, is not enjoyable.
Demanding 10$ because it give you a possible seed into the next season of the NASL and even a direct seed to the grand finals is alright, but arguing over the organization cost is stupid. Every tournament has organizatorial costs, but you don't see them hand out 10-15% of the entry fees they rake in.

The 10 bucks to sign up is really to deter random joe blow gold leaguer from signing up and feeding easy wins to GM's... It's also great to prevent another painuser-like situation and have the players actually think twice before singing up. If the tournament was free, they would probably have thousands of random people that really can't compete sign up for it, and even then there's a pretty good chance they won't even bother showing up.

$10 entry fee for a 1024 player tourney where 8 people get a chance to win money. NASL you have done well

Lmfao wow... I hope this is a troll post...
If not, I can't believe how egotistical you are being. They are giving everyone the privilege of participating in a 16 man tournament against some of the best players in the world for one of the biggest prize pools, and you feel entitled to be a part of it? How about you be thankful they are hosting it... or worst comes to worst just man up and pay the very insignificant amount of money. Can you seriously not spare 10 dollars? Just order water instead of soda the next few times you eat out... my god.
Now that I am done typing all of that out... I'm pretty sure I actually responded to a troll, because that is just laughably ridiculous otherwise.

the $10 entry will really hurt participation in this I fear.
|
10$ fee is just to weed out the people who are just joining the tournament to join it. I think 10$ fee is fine, probably getting a bit on the high end of an entry fee, but still reasonable IMO.
|
I would have done it if not for the $10, but I understand why they did it. I just hope the tournament comes close to being filled up by the time it starts.

I'm sure there are some of you who are really hard-up for cash, but for most of you all I can say if WTF Are you kidding? Regardless of how good you are, chances are you won't make it, even if you're the top player. I just don't see the reasoning for mandating a $10 fee when it could be out of 1024 people, single elimination. $10 for a chance of being eliminated after 1 series, along with essentially no return for second place if you happen to make it far. I simply don't see the justification in a $10 entrance fee for an open tournament like this. Maybe if it was 64 people max. Not 1024.
Im sure somewhere in all this people have made these points, but
1) Top 8 get rewarded by qualifying for next NASL. So it isn't 1 out of 1024 who gets rewarded. 2) If you're at the level of skill we're talking about here, you don't talk about "chances are". Your destiny is in your hands. That's what a competition of this caliber is all about. 8 very good players will make it through this tournament. 3) 10$ limits who is going to enter. People who aren't good enough (me) won't enter if they have to pay, whereas why on earth WOULDN'T I give it a shot if it was free? They don't want 1024 competitors, that's just more work. Let the best play and the rest watch. 4) NASL makes money. Yay! 5) Seriously, it's TEN DOLLARS
In what universe did people honestly think this would be free?

TIL that people who have access to a computer and an internet connection desperately need $10 in their lives to survive.
Seriously people.

Just read the post ironically. That's what you'd need to do to make sense of 90% of this thread.

The best are going to play this zzzzzzzzzz. its played on the NA server, which guys like nestea and mvp have said they'll never play tournaments on again. Thats the bigger issue not the entrance fee. The entrance fee just means its going to be just 3 or 4 bo3 to qualify for the next NASL which is sad
|
Im just here to bitch about paying 10$ to enter a tourney...
Actually nvm i think this is awsome. ANd i really dont udnerstand people complaining about the $10 entry fee. ESPECIALLY the hypocritical people who say this "hurts" esports when you are the cheap ass who cant afford a $10 entrance fee... do you think you are helping esports?
It costs money to run and host these events, how do people not realize these things? Esports is a business at the end of the day...
They dont let u watch NBA, NFL, MLS, games for free.. why do u think that is? Cause they have bills to pay.... /cry
|
paying for a tourney comes as no surprise really. If you've ever competed on any other athletic tournament this is pretty normal... I just wish they had some sort of deal for people who paid for the stream to get in for free or something, since we've already supported the NASL.
