Honestly, all teh best players do not need to be in every tournament. I love that IGN is getting involved and making a sc2 tournament. This is so good for the community. Also, there are some great players...hmm I think SelecT or KiWiKaKi ftw.

It just seems ridiculous to restrict a tournament to residents of the host country.

Well I lack analytical caster in their caster lineup, PainUser might fill that role somewhat but I am not sure. It's of course my subjective taste , but in TSL I like all the casters, but Husky DJWheat combo was not really good, any other pairing was great. And for me it is because that combo lacked someone with good knowledge of the game. I doubt PainUser will be able to cast every match, so I would wish for some other analytical caster.
Also where is Tyler

Also known as "the incident which must not be named."

I'm not familiar with the BW scene at all, neither are the majority of the people they are trying to target. Calling it a Pro League is fine. If they called it the Super Bowl then it would be a problem because their target audience is quite familiar with it. And to the guy saying he wont tune in when HD and TB cast, I think they will choose their nearly 650,000 subscriber audience (yes I realize there are a lot of people subscribed to both, but it doesn't matter to make my point) over you choosing not to watch those games. They are trying to appeal to the masses, you are not the masses, but HD and TB's subscribers are. Just a small point, I do not think it is good idea to use subscribers as measure of current popularity. Use avergae number of views on recent uploads instead. I am subscribed to Husky and HD, yet I did not watch any of their videos in months (from release probably).

Obviously Day9 and tastosis can't cast everything, so with what was available they definitely picked up the next most popular casters. I wish the used HD instead of TB though, HD is really good despite being a youtube caster. Plus IGN is already sponsoring his tournament so it surprises me that he isn't doing this. I love painuser and glad to see he is involved although I wish was playing in the tourney as well as casting. He needs more exposure, his play is so creative and strong. ^^

Any plans of expanding this to team matches. I enjoy those more than 1v1

No he means HD but like 95% of the people who took the time to reply to this topic, he didnt even take the time to read. (were at page 22 and people are still asking why TEELER is not there, i mean seriously).
Anyways, great project, looks very well layed out, professional, wishes IGN all the best STOKED

Good stuff with the free streams. I most likely won't be able to watch it live since justin.tv doesn't like my part of the world, but i'll watch VoDs
i really wish jtv will improve their streams... my isp is fine, i'm guessing there are some routing/backbone issues towards some parts of europe. Here's to hoping they will work on it!

Well if you do that, you get the same result, since Husky and HD are still the 1st and 2nd most watched casters on YT by a significant margin. Every channel has tons of idle subs if it's been around for a while. You are correct that sub numbers do not mean much.

Great set of commentators overall; not sure about DjWheat on his own, but we'll see.. The more TotalBiscuit, the better, although I do probably have a bit of a "fellow Brit" bias potentially.

Not too psyched about the NA-only roster... But I'm sure TotalBiscuit will manage to be enough of a counterbalance.. :D

As indicated by my post count, I am brand new to TL.net and SC in general.
To give an "outsider's" view, I really appreciate what IGN is doing. Ever since Day9's release party I have been charmed by the game. Like many others I have ditched television, radio, or more to say "classic media" a long time ago. Yet I couldn't believe eSport would ever reach the point of providing me day-to-day content.
The reason, why I was amazed by this game and its culture was the sheer amount of involvement thoughout all classes and scales. I am going to be honest here to say that I see SC2 purely as personal entertainment. And delivered it has. I can basically turn on TL.net on any given day and find something to sit back and relax after work. I have the choice to immerse on any level, be it playerstreams, a variety of daily/weekly shows, big ass tournaments and drama or the average joes fighting for 50$ food money.
As with everything, growing comes with its pains. To ease them, one is required a solid foundation. A thriving "middle class" so to speak, to both carry the lower ranks and stabilize the very top. And this is the point where IGN in my opinion intends to tweak the right triggers. As pumped as I am about rapidly topping one superlative after the other, it is nice to see organisations wrap up the field from the bottom, ultimatively heightening the standards for everyone. At the end of the day, bills have to be paid. And I'd rather have a base substantial enough to support all this.
Regarding casters, this kind of profession is even now a rare find. I don't know about you guys, but it is neither possible nor desirable to have Tastosis/Day9 shoulder the weight on their own. In fact, not everybody is thrilled about seeing the same faces on every event.

Amazing intro, well done, I obviously am not that pleased about no liquid members playing but will definitely watch. Also I hope future seasons will be accessible to global players

More amazingly awesome news for the e-Sports scene!! GG IGN!

Is the acronym 'IPL' designed to lure in viewers from the most-watched sports league in the world? I'm talking about cricket here obviously, the Indian Premier League.

Ok lads, we've been rumbled. We aimed to secure the future of eSports by poaching cricket fans, we admit it and we're sorry
