First off I am semi new to the RTS community but not to the gaming community in general..

On the subject of commentators... I personally like the choices. I do think you need someone in the booth that can give you that "expert" dissection of what is happening in the game, but it is not needed for every person involved to have that kinda of expertise. Bringing variety is what makes watching anything enjoyable, assuming of course its quality variety. If Day 9 is all we ever see.. it wont be as exciting or dramatic when he is there. Obviously after this first "test run" they will take the feedback and move forward. Before jumping the gun let's see how this combination works out... Joe Rogan recieved alot of negative feedback when he jumped into the MMA world as a commentator for the UFC.. Now nobody wants to listen to anything besides Mike Goldberg and himself... not to mention they are exploding as an organization in growth. I love the passion that I have entered into with this community, but we need to try not to suffocate it with all our opinions and "expertise".

Pretty poor overall invites, was expecting grandeur to be the focal point of such an event.

I understand why people are saying this, but I think a key point of the original post is this:

This is our showcase of what we’re going to be doing in the future. Consider this a warm up event to prove our worth and why you should care about the IGN Pro League.

I don't think IPL expects to be the best of the best right off the bat. They want to get their feet wet and make sure the event will go smoothly, and that people are interested in an IGN tournament. Immediately trying to organize a global event seems a little ambitious for a company's first venture into SC2. Regardless, next season will have qualifiers. No way to complain about that!

If Day9 wasn't invited because he's seen as too "high-level" and not entertaining enough, in the sense that the casters are supposed to appeal to the casual fan too, I think that should be reconsidered for future seasons. It's normal in competitive events for the commentators to provide strategic analysis of what the opposing teams are doing. You can see this in any sporting event, like Monday Night Football--they'll talk about things like which defenses are in use at certain times (3-4, Cover 2, Nickle, Dime, etc.) and why. Even if all of the casual fans don't quite understand what "Tampa 2" means, aren't sure about the difference between a Strong and Free Safety, etc., they still expect and I think enjoy some of that analysis.

People like to feel that they are inside the game and aware of some of the decision making that is going on. And maybe it's fun to agree and disagree with the commentator's analysis, like "they should probably run in this situation on 3rd and 2," vs. "no, play-action!"

I thought he (Day9) was busy? besides I'd say someone like PainUser -- an active pro -- has probably more insight on the game than Day9... let's give him a chance to see how he does, his stratbunker series are a very good indicative he might do just fine.

Sean is busy, that's already been addressed. Any conspiracy theories suggesting that he was shut out in order to appeal to new players have no basis in fact, as is the belief that Sean is somehow more than 1 man and is some omnipresent caster who can cast every event in the world.

I don't see anyone having more insight than Day9 about this game except for ex-A/A+ players on Iccup or Korean players. Remember, Day9 was ONE of the best NA Broodwar player, and everyone want him to come back to competitive play because he is just THAT good

I'm quite optimistic that this will become a nice tourney in the future.

But for now i dont think any europeans will tune in, because its more like an american championship right now.

And worst of all, like most tourneys from america, the time just completly horrible for any non-american...8 pm EST is 03.00 CET, and that on a thursday...

So yeah, i hope you guys realize that you probably wont have viewer-counts like the TSL and dont get discouraged by it, because the way it is planned, theres just no helping it.

Nope, and there's little to no crossover anyways.

If you look at the recent MLG results I think you might reconsider that statement. If for nothing else then we have the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 7th, 11th, 15th, 17th, 20th, 23rd, 28th place finishers, as well as other ranked finishers.

I didn't know that it had already been addressed and he was busy, thanks. I just saw people explaining his absence as appealing more to the casual fan, which I didn't think was a good reason.

Oh you of small faith How can you spread your skepticism about Sean's omnipresence. Next thing you will be saying he is not all seeing, cannot counter Tasteless build with just marines and does not live in a cave surrounded by faithful servants.

Sweet Totalbiscut is my favorite caster! If you haven't heard any of his casts you should check him out on youtube.

I would say Artosis knows more and understands more. But that might be just because he is in Korea in the middle of it all.

i think day9 is better at being less judgmental of players, and not proclaiming games over when they aren't.

day9 praises any pro and every pro, no matter what, and is not as up to date on specifics regardin the metagame. that being said id prefer day9 to any of the casters ign have picked, not sure they could have done a worse job there.

LGPainUser. I would love for you to get a different commentator, maybe bunny from WC3.
I don't know if she is really following SC2, but she is probably the best woman commentator out there, I think she can succeed for SC2 as she did for WC3.

As far as IPL 2 I think only the top 3 from IPL 1 should be seeded to R32, while the guys from 4th to 6th position seeded to R64. All the rest should be through qualification.
