I must say the IGN teaser video with all the pro gamers talking about how they wanted to be pro gamers etc, It was really well done and hats off to IGN for awesome production value so far. If that is any indication of what we are going to see from IGN in the future, the community is in for an awesome spectacle.

If Day9 wasn't invited because he's seen as too "high-level" and not entertaining enough, in the sense that the casters are supposed to appeal to the casual fan too, I think that should be reconsidered for future seasons. It's normal in competitive events for the commentators to provide strategic analysis of what the opposing teams are doing. You can see this in any sporting event, like Monday Night Football--they'll talk about things like which defenses are in use at certain times (3-4, Cover 2, Nickle, Dime, etc.) and why. Even if all of the casual fans don't quite understand what "Tampa 2" means, aren't sure about the difference between a Strong and Free Safety, etc., they still expect and I think enjoy some of that analysis.

People like to feel that they are inside the game and aware of some of the decision making that is going on. And maybe it's fun to agree and disagree with the commentator's analysis, like "they should probably run in this situation on 3rd and 2," vs. "no, play-action!"

I thought he (Day9) was busy? besides I'd say someone like PainUser -- an active pro -- has probably more insight on the game than Day9... let's give him a chance to see how he does, his stratbunker series are a very good indicative he might do just fine.

I don't see anyone having more insight than Day9 about this game except for ex-A/A+ players on Iccup or Korean players. Remember, Day9 was ONE of the best NA Broodwar player, and everyone want him to come back to competitive play because he is just THAT good

I would say Artosis knows more and understands more. But that might be just because he is in Korea in the middle of it all.

i think day9 is better at being less judgmental of players, and not proclaiming games over when they aren't.

day9 praises any pro and every pro, no matter what, and is not as up to date on specifics regardin the metagame. that being said id prefer day9 to any of the casters ign have picked, not sure they could have done a worse job there.

LGPainUser. I would love for you to get a different commentator, maybe bunny from WC3.
I don't know if she is really following SC2, but she is probably the best woman commentator out there, I think she can succeed for SC2 as she did for WC3.

As far as IPL 2 I think only the top 3 from IPL 1 should be seeded to R32, while the guys from 4th to 6th position seeded to R64. All the rest should be through qualification.

Bunny is a good War3 caster, but only a War3 caster, I'm afraid. She casted some BW games at Blizzcon and was completely out of her element. If she's not following SC2 very closely then don't include her, and I'm saying that as a fan of hers =)

Thanks a lot for your input everyone, especially with the casters. However, if we hired everyone that people really wanted to see, then eliminated everyone that people really didn't want to see, we would end up with 0 casters. We felt that from who was available and excited about our project, we ended up with a great mix of casters who appeal to different aspects of our target and potential audience. Really excited to see how these matches play out!

wow, the western scene is getting bigger... NASL, MLG, IPL.
Oh man, this game will be much bigger and will be more competitive than BW down the road

I`m scared for the Koreans :x

Question- Why is this not all over IGN's front page?

We were mentioned in today's Daily Fix, but keep in mind that IGN is a huge site and we're just one part of it. Be assured though that many people at IGN are aware of this and are very excited!

Daily fix link: http://www.ign.com/videos/2011/04/04/ign-daily-fix-040411

If you search proleague on the ign website it doesn't even appear on the search. I assume that as the event gets closer to happening, there will be a large post on the frontpage?

Yeah I agree, love how much effort they are putting into SC2.

I think Morgan Freeman should cast some. I don't care if he knows SC2 or not, he will at least SOUND like he does.

He could put "narrated War of the Worlds" on his resume!

But he'd only be able to cast P v T lol

Well said. I also think once the league gets started people will get over the heartbreak / whining a bit. I mean, despite the train wreck of MLG last weekend, there were still a ton of people sitting around, waiting, watching, and enjoying the games that were cast. There was a lot of QQ about Tastosis at first, too, and that's become a lot less common it seems. The casters will get better, the viewers will get used to them, and the quality of the games themselves will eventually be what people are really focusing on. Looking forward to it!

I'm glad someone big like IGN stepped in.

If it's successful, here's hoping that Day9 would be the staple and I think that would surely please the community.

I just realized both this and NASL are using the old version of Terminus with the RE instead of SE. Is there any reason not to use the latest version do people think the safe third is more balanced?

Don't pretend IGN wants to give us this tournament because they love us so much. It's a business, so of course people can critisize it as much as they please.

Great news that IGN is getting involved in SC2.

With that said, this first tournament looks pretty boring to me, not many great players and also not the casters I like (only wheat I can define as kind of good). I don't think I'll be tuning up for this.

Good luck though, and hopefully the next season will be better.

When i first saw it was an Invitational Tour i was sad, but when i saw its only sth like a "pre" tour its i was happy since the other tours are gonna be open and imo we have to many Invite tours in sc2 secen atm.

It's pretty awesome that this league Day9 and Wheat. I'm kind of wondering why NASL missed out on getting A-list casters now.
