impossible to figure out how to join the tournament -_-
will pay to have someone sign me up

I've been paying for cevo for years, its a great organization. They are very established in the counter-strike community.

Figuring it out should win you a prize in and of itself.

I am still curious how you plan to obtain blizzard approval, sense it is required to host SC2 tourneys and you don't satisfy the terms and conditions they list publicly:
BLIZZARD ENTERTAINMENT ONLINE TOURNAMENT AGREEMENT Last Revised July 27th 2010 1. Grant of Tournament License. With regards to your request to host a tournament on the Battle.net® service that features Blizzard’s StarCraft® II: Wings of Liberty™ software (the “Game”), Blizzard Entertainment, Inc., a Delaware corporation (“Blizzard”), hereby grants, to you the a non-exclusive, royalty free, non-transferable, license and right to use and display the Game for an online tournament subject to Your adherence to the following terms and conditions: * (a) The Tournament must be free to enter; ...
Were you ignorant of these requirements or you have not dealt with this yet or you have some kind of work-around situation. I would appreciate elaboration.

I love how cevo obtains a ton of advertisement from this and acts like they are losing money. Hahaha

At no time have I said we are losing money.. I have simply stated this is a pay to play organization. It is really quite simple. You pay to play in a league, we schedule your matches, if you don't suck, you win 500%+ of your investment back. You will drop $10 on the "stuffed animal claw game" in the arcade for a chance to win a $1 stuffed animal, but paying $5 to win hundreds... Yes, that is just insane!
For those that are having issues signing up, I COMPLETELY understand your frustration. We are in the process of creating a new back and front end. I have seen some templates of what the new site will look like, and I assure you, it is a LOT more function able. I have no problem admitting our website can currently be quite a challenge, however, it does get easier the more you use it. Please keep in mind that we have a ventrilo server that has officials standing by to assist you almost 24/7. This gives you the ability to speak to someone and not have to just submit a ticket. Anyone in the server would be more than happy to assist you.

Heres a little bit of a walk through on how to join the tournament, I've kept the screenshots in spoiler tags to make this more readable:
1) Create an account and login (easiest step of the process)
2) Click 'My Account' under the CEVO banner
3) Click teams (See Screenshot with red box in the spoiler)
+ Show Spoiler +
4) Click Create Team
+ Show Spoiler +
5) Choose Starcraft 2 (beta) from the drop down list
+ Show Spoiler +
6) Fill out team info (since CEVO is mostly a team based league most of this is setup for teams of people, you will still need a 'team' for this 1v1 tournament. You can add fake information if you want)
+ Show Spoiler +
7) Put in a roster join password and register for Sapphire Minerals event
+ Show Spoiler +
8) Next you will see the Transaction Manager where you can pay, you can come back to this later by clicking on my transactions under my account
+ Show Spoiler +
9) You need to add your battle.net character ID to your cevo profile, click on my account -> Unique game IDs
+ Show Spoiler +
After you have added your Unique ID, and paid you will be ready to play in the tournament.

In consideration for people wanting a free tournament, we are waiving the entry fee into this event. I understand that quite a few of you are not familiar with CEVO. This will give you an opportunity to see how the company works.
If you have already paid to participate in this event, please go to support.cevo.com and fill out a support ticket for the accounting department requesting a refund.
Due to changing this event free, we will be removing the $200 cash for first place. The hardware prizes WILL still be rewarded.
Please keep in mind we only have room for 128 players in this event so everyone needs to sign up as soon as possible. This event will soon be full.
Thank you for your time, I hope all of you enjoy CEVO and this free tournament!

I honestly don't get why everyone is bitching about the 5$ entry fee. X_X It's just 5$ man! Even if you're still in high-school just save your lunch money for a day, bahaha. Either way though, CEVO has always been legit. I can't believe half of you have never heard of them and you're all involved in e-Sports. B|
GL though in the tourney to those who signed up.

This is good idea!! I'm sure there will be a much wider group of people joining because it is free. Certainly changed my mind about it.
I signed up, but I dont see myself under view all standings

There is no standings at the moment. Look under the "teams" list.

Cevo is a great company. Their CS:S and CS coverage is top notch. Paying 5$ is nothing in comparison to the 20$ per player it would run a CS:S team a season.

How come on the official cevo page, it's listed as a FREE event, whereas the information on this TL page is $5 USD to register for the event?

We cater more toward the competitive players. This is just a small event. After this, we will be setting up our season which will likely be more than just $5 but will be a lot larger prize pool. I really don't find $5 too detrimental when it comes to competition play.
BIG mistake there. The free tournaments going on are at a higher competitive lvl then what cevo has going on. You just insulted the sc2 competitive scene by calling it casual.
There are so many free tournaments with money going on you can't keep track of them. I'm a good player but not good enough yet to win money. Why pay money for a tournament when I could just go join one of the thousand others. You won't find many players signing up with a fee. You have to make money on advertisements. Get a REALLY good caster and throw up some advertisements on the stream.
The only way I can see fees working if you have a tournament inviting known players plus anyone with a very high rating in diamond (some extremely good players aren't known) and if anybody else wanted to enter they would pay a fee. It would be a very high lvl tournament but other people could throw in their money and pump up the prizes a small bit. The fee would only be a lil extra way to get money and you wouldn't have many people paying the fee.
Does cmn currently catch any of the current sc2 hacks? No? If so get rid of it. Only have cmn when it is able to catch what people are using.
This isn't a fps. While the fee model has some success in fps partially cause it's intended at teams that already are paying for servers. Fps competitive scene would really be a lot better if it was able to get away from paying for servers and leagues. Sc2 of course can easily step away from that.
|
It seems most RTS tournaments get their prizes mainly from sponsors, while FPS tournaments and some leagues require entry fees.
Still, I don't understand the amount of crying in this thread. It's $5.00 and you're probably going to be playing against most of the best players. If you don't feel you have a chance to win and $5.00 means that much to you, then don't play. I have absolutely no issue paying $5.00.
Personally, I can't wait for CEVO to get big into SC2. They have great leagues and tournaments for every game they run, and are the main place for high tier FPS gaming.

We changed it, it is free.

CagedMind,
When I want your input for a CEVO event, I will ask for it. It is now free. This should COMPLETELY stop the whining going on about the fee.
