wow this all looks so confusing (as usual :S) and you have to pay to play? isn't that against some sort of blizzard rule or something as well as being bad in general
|
Awesome, bought time you showed up to the party, And Huk you have always had to pay for Cevo.
|
I think its only against blizz rule when we use their system
|
CEVO will always be pay to play. Our tournaments do not break any of Blizzard's policies or rules. We will be having a season and tournaments year round for SC2. Unfortunately, running a company costs money so we do have to charge. We are unable to run CEVO, while throwing some nice prizes your way and not charge you.
The registration for this event is now open and the first 128 paid players registered for this event will start tournament play on Monday, August 23rd. Competition will run weekly Mon-Thurs.
|
well its 600$ for prizes and 640$ for registrations assuming its full tournament.
+ shipping costs - cheaper deals for the hardware value im sure u get + adveritisement -etc. etc.
just idk paying to play in a tournament always gives me a sad face
|
yea sick - ev to play this. Especially since there are tons of free tournaments. But good luck!
|
I can understand that. Luckily there are free tournaments out there through other companies for players that just want casual play. We cater more toward the competitive players. This is just a small event. After this, we will be setting up our season which will likely be more than just $5 but will be a lot larger prize pool. I really don't find $5 too detrimental when it comes to competition play.

so you gotta pay even more to play in other events as well?
i mean there are huge invite / qualifying / free events that have the same if not bigger prizepools
edit: with no cost
|
Good luck with this. Although most players will stick to the free tournaments that also have prize pools that are roughly the same if not larger.

When will the tournament begin?

That is just when play begins. Registration is open as we speak!

Yeah, its a shame but this is very true... Need to get some sponsors for this tournament and drop the entry fee!
|
CEVO getting involved in SC2 is definitely a good thing as far as I'm concerned. I look forward to playing in their league, but I fear putting 5 bucks down on a tourney to lose to 5 rax marine in round 1 would just kill my apetite for competitive play.
I'll definitely be watching to see how the tourney goes though.
|
That is why I made this event double elimination. Also, you only have a 1 in 127 chance of being matched up with him in the first round.. Those are good odds!

CEVO has a pretty good track record running paid tournaments and leagues. Not sure what they're planning for SC2, but in CS they've always paid out $5000+ for season winners of the P league.
If it's just apprehension about paying an unfamiliar company, know that CEVO is one of the main American CS leagues and has been around for years. EG, coL and all the others play in it.

Lets go Jibba, I know you are going to get in on this action! I don't see you signed up yet!!

I've never payed to play in a tourney and I've won shit tons of money and prizes at them, so it's definitely possible. It's a thing called sponsorship, companies need to learn about it. I understand where CEVO is coming from, but in a game like SC2, it would be good to take a look around and realize how massive the competitive scene already is, and how many huge, huge big money tournaments are popping up, with 10x more prize money and no entry fee. This definitely will play against CEVO's favor.

I'm trying to figure out what my CEVO login info was. Any idea on the dates?
|
Everyone can keep putting the same posts about how spending $5 on a league keeps them from paying their bills, however this post was not made to be flamed, it was put here to inform the community of an upcoming event. If paying to play in a tournament is not your style, that is fine. Please leave this thread open for those that are interested in our event. Thank you.

impossible to figure out how to join the tournament -_-
will pay to have someone sign me up

I've been paying for cevo for years, its a great organization. They are very established in the counter-strike community.

Figuring it out should win you a prize in and of itself.

I am still curious how you plan to obtain blizzard approval, sense it is required to host SC2 tourneys and you don't satisfy the terms and conditions they list publicly:
BLIZZARD ENTERTAINMENT ONLINE TOURNAMENT AGREEMENT Last Revised July 27th 2010 1. Grant of Tournament License. Were you ignorant of these requirements or you have not dealt with this yet or you have some kind of work-around situation. I would appreciate elaboration.

I love how cevo obtains a ton of advertisement from this and acts like they are losing money. Hahaha

At no time have I said we are losing money.. I have simply stated this is a pay to play organization. It is really quite simple. You pay to play in a league, we schedule your matches, if you don't suck, you win 500%+ of your investment back. You will drop $10 on the "stuffed animal claw game" in the arcade for a chance to win a $1 stuffed animal, but paying $5 to win hundreds... Yes, that is just insane!
For those that are having issues signing up, I COMPLETELY understand your frustration. We are in the process of creating a new back and front end. I have seen some templates of what the new site will look like, and I assure you, it is a LOT more function able. I have no problem admitting our website can currently be quite a challenge, however, it does get easier the more you use it. Please keep in mind that we have a ventrilo server that has officials standing by to assist you almost 24/7. This gives you the ability to speak to someone and not have to just submit a ticket. Anyone in the server would be more than happy to assist you.

Heres a little bit of a walk through on how to join the tournament, I've kept the screenshots in spoiler tags to make this more readable:
1) Create an account and login (easiest step of the process)
2) Click 'My Account' under the CEVO banner
3) Click teams (See Screenshot with red box in the spoiler)
+ Show Spoiler +
4) Click Create Team
+ Show Spoiler +
5) Choose Starcraft 2 (beta) from the drop down list
+ Show Spoiler +
6) Fill out team info (since CEVO is mostly a team based league most of this is setup for teams of people, you will still need a 'team' for this 1v1 tournament. You can add fake information if you want)
+ Show Spoiler +
7) Put in a roster join password and register for Sapphire Minerals event
+ Show Spoiler +
8) Next you will see the Transaction Manager where you can pay, you can come back to this later by clicking on my transactions under my account
+ Show Spoiler +
9) You need to add your battle.net character ID to your cevo profile, click on my account -> Unique game IDs
+ Show Spoiler +
After you have added your Unique ID, and paid you will be ready to play in the tournament.

In consideration for people wanting a free tournament, we are waiving the entry fee into this event. I understand that quite a few of you are not familiar with CEVO. This will give you an opportunity to see how the company works.
If you have already paid to participate in this event, please go to support.cevo.com and fill out a support ticket for the accounting department requesting a refund.
Due to changing this event free, we will be removing the $200 cash for first place. The hardware prizes WILL still be rewarded.
Please keep in mind we only have room for 128 players in this event so everyone needs to sign up as soon as possible. This event will soon be full.
Thank you for your time, I hope all of you enjoy CEVO and this free tournament!
|
I honestly don't get why everyone is bitching about the 5$ entry fee. X_X It's just 5$ man! Even if you're still in high-school just save your lunch money for a day, bahaha. Either way though, CEVO has always been legit. I can't believe half of you have never heard of them and you're all involved in e-Sports. B|
GL though in the tourney to those who signed up.

This is good idea!! I'm sure there will be a much wider group of people joining because it is free. Certainly changed my mind about it.
I signed up, but I dont see myself under view all standings
|
There is no standings at the moment. Look under the "teams" list.
|
Cevo is a great company. Their CS:S and CS coverage is top notch. Paying 5$ is nothing in comparison to the 20$ per player it would run a CS:S team a season.
|
|
How come on the official cevo page, it's listed as a FREE event, whereas the information on this TL page is $5 USD to register for the event?
|

BIG mistake there. The free tournaments going on are at a higher competitive lvl then what cevo has going on. You just insulted the sc2 competitive scene by calling it casual.
There are so many free tournaments with money going on you can't keep track of them. I'm a good player but not good enough yet to win money. Why pay money for a tournament when I could just go join one of the thousand others. You won't find many players signing up with a fee. You have to make money on advertisements. Get a REALLY good caster and throw up some advertisements on the stream.
The only way I can see fees working if you have a tournament inviting known players plus anyone with a very high rating in diamond (some extremely good players aren't known) and if anybody else wanted to enter they would pay a fee. It would be a very high lvl tournament but other people could throw in their money and pump up the prizes a small bit. The fee would only be a lil extra way to get money and you wouldn't have many people paying the fee.
Does cmn currently catch any of the current sc2 hacks? No? If so get rid of it. Only have cmn when it is able to catch what people are using.
This isn't a fps. While the fee model has some success in fps partially cause it's intended at teams that already are paying for servers. Fps competitive scene would really be a lot better if it was able to get away from paying for servers and leagues. Sc2 of course can easily step away from that.
|
It seems most RTS tournaments get their prizes mainly from sponsors, while FPS tournaments and some leagues require entry fees.
Still, I don't understand the amount of crying in this thread. It's $5.00 and you're probably going to be playing against most of the best players. If you don't feel you have a chance to win and $5.00 means that much to you, then don't play. I have absolutely no issue paying $5.00.
Personally, I can't wait for CEVO to get big into SC2. They have great leagues and tournaments for every game they run, and are the main place for high tier FPS gaming.

We changed it, it is free.

CagedMind,
When I want your input for a CEVO event, I will ask for it. It is now free. This should COMPLETELY stop the whining going on about the fee.

Is there a way to check if we are successfully registered?

Sure, What is your login name?

It's still charging me $5 to enter the event. I don't mind I suppose.

You posted on a fucking forum, you're going to get input. You are asking for it.
Otherwise, this should be a cool event. I have had positive experiences with CEVO so I look forward to another good event.,

You do not need to pay to register, the pay link might still be there because of the way the tournament was set up I let someone know about it. If you already paid you can get a refund for the $5 by making a billing support ticket at support.cevo.com
We are still working out details for future events but this one will be free, the first 128 people to sign up will get in.
|
Sapphire could at least be nice enough to give winners GPUs that are of current generation. I mean they are only a multi-million dollar business. And if it isn't Sapphire sponsoring, lol@the 3870.
|
Is cevo aware that it's against the tos of sc2 to have pay to play tourneys? I realize this one is free but going forward I don't think cevo has ever done free to play leagues tourneys consistently for any game.
|
Thank god for "membership fees"..
|
I can't find out how to register for this. When I click on creat team I don't see sc2 in there as a game option.
Am I doing something wrong?
*scratch head*
|
What is your login name? It is possible you might have already registered for the tournament and that is why it does not show up for you. Try going to teams > view my teams. If you give me either your login name or the email address you used to register your account I can help you out with it.
|
Just registered, and my god they make this is so complicated.
BTW, Congrats to Silver on the coL sponsorship if it's legit! Nothing's been announced yet, but coL is a pretty big name team!
|
5 dollars for a league with no prize money......
edit for stalife : now it makes sense
|
there's no more entrance fees. It's a free tournament, just no cash prize
|
Hey how do we sign up for this if theres no link to the cevo website
|
CEVO is 100% legit and worth the cost. They are the best in the CS 1.6 community, and thats probably the most important competitive pc gaming scene right now.
|
Wow, the amount of tears in this thread is pretty astonishing. Can we get some mod action or something? Seriously, if you don't want to pay to participate then don't, don't come into their thread and flame them for holding this event. As has been pointed out, CEVO is well respected for their CS events, and them getting involved in SC2 will do nothing but good things for the growth of the competitive scene.

I'm guessing an announcement will be coming in sooner or later since coL is obviously going to be picking up whatever talent they can get hands on.

I'm sure that your Clan can afford the $5.00 entry fee to put you in this.
Regardless, I wouldn't mind dedicating 15 minutes of my work pay (I get paid like $20/hour) to participate in this tournament. Honestly, who doesn't have $5.00?
Also, I like the concept of pay-to-play because it trims the fat. Obviously if you have no chance of winning or placing relatively well you won't pay to play. This also completely takes out the need for the "invitational mindset" since only the people that would have got invited anyway could justify paying (because they have a chance of winning).
Pay-to-play only increases the competitiveness of the game. If you aren't good enough to pay to play, you'll have more inceptive to be good enough. I wouldn't mind SC2 turning into the next Texas Hold'em, although that would be a dream and a half from reality, still, this is one step toward that awesomeness.
Also, as mentioned in this thread, CEVO has a p-good track record. Props for organizing this for SC2 as well.

Yes, because the tournament was originally made as a paid event it will say unpaid, it means nothing now. It will be fixed before the tournament starts, please don't pay it will just be more work for you to get your money back.

EVERYONE,
This event is now FREE. Please DO NOT pay the $5.00 the website is asking for. I have not switched the event to a free status yet so I could tell who had already paid the money. Those people should have received an email from Mr. Ellis explaining how to request a refund. After I am certain everyone has been refunded, the tournament will be switched to free and it will no longer request the $5.00. Even though it is asking for money, you are still entered into the tournament.
PLxDratewka,
you have successfully registered. Thank you for your participation.

There are only 40 spots left open for this event! If you have not signed up and were planning on it, now is the time to complete this. Once these forty spots are taken, there will be no more additions to this tournament. Please complete registration as soon as possible for your ability to participate.
I would also like to let everyone know that this is a 1v1 competition. There CANNOT be more than one person on each roster. I noticed a team today that had 4 players. These extra players need to be removed or I will have to remove them. If they want to compete, they need to sign up their own team. There are 40 positions left available.
|
Also people signed up, you need to make sure you have your Character ID and character Code entered so your opponents can find you. To do this make sure you are signed into your account on the cevo.com page, click "my account" on the main menu bar, and click the new my account button below that and then 'unique game ids'. There is screenshots of this in my post earlier in this thread if you can't find it. Several people are signed up without their id entered, and some with the wrong ID.

We are currently working out an agreement with Blizzard. The reason we did not push the tourney back is due to another scheduled event with Alienware Arena. 110 teams registered. First 128 to get signed up and have their unique id will get to participate. Thanks to all those whom came to our town hall meeting and for the feed back. We hope this event will be the start of several great events. Feel free to contact us if you have any question. Http://support.cevo.com or ventrillo: 174.120.115.215 port 4000.

my guy isnt responding/wasn't there =[
|
ATTENTION: We have 120+ people signed up now, but most of you don't have your Starcraft ID entered into our system. I just went through all of the teams and made the ones with players who have everything entered correctly 'ready' in our system. If you look at: http://www.cevo.com/index.php?page=div&id=343&func=standings&view=bygroup there is two groups. Group A is everyone that is READY and you don't need to do anything else. If your team is in Group Not Ready you haven't entered your ID, or you have a bad ID entered (from beta for instance). Also teams with multiple players aren't ready because you need to be on your OWN TEAM.
If you are in the Not Ready group please make sure you enter your ID ASAP as the frist 128 people to do so will get a spot in the tournament. If you are having trouble please come into our ventrilo, I'll be in there most of today, most admins will be able to help you enter your ID also. ventrillo: 174.120.115.215 port 4000.
Thanks.

Changed my account details to have my ID in properly, haven't shown up as ready yet. Is all ok with my account? I'm Sealteam and the team is Seal.736 with the same char name and ID in my specific game details.
|
My account is updated with identifier. Please move me to ready group.
|
Very happy to see CEVO picking up SC2. Best of luck to everyone!
|
Sealteam and dreamfield ,
both of you have been set to ready. Good luck in the event!
|
I think I should be set to ready now that I updated my "Unique Game ID" with my SC2 ID, though I still show up in the not ready category.
Username on CEVO is UNC_Qiufeng, registered for the event under the team name "UNC CSL". Maybe I missed something? D:
edit: nice event btw
|
EtherealDeath,
Once the SC2 ID is entered properly I have to manually set you to ready. I usually go through in the evening and set everyone that has corrected their ID to ready, unless someone lets me know as you just have.
You have now been set to ready, thank you for participating and enjoy the event!

CEVO is doing what they've always done with games like counter-strike, cs:source, and tf2 with this pay to play system. I can't remember how much my IM season in CEVO was but it's not too much and it provides a great online tracking system, and general organization. I know in a CEVO season, almost everyone would play (counter strike: source) and I would love to see the same effect in SC2.

I just did another full run through of everyone who is correctly signed up for the tournament. If your team is still in the Not Ready group you should get moving as its getting close to full with ready teams.
|
Hi, I just saw this tournament went free so I singed up.
I put in my ID, am I able to participate even though I am not in group B?
Edit:
username: Siffer team name: Siffer

Yes you should be able to still participate as long as the limit hasnt been reached yet.
|
There is only room for 41 more players in this event. There are 78 players that are still "not ready". If you want to play in this event, you need to fix your SC2 ID. The first 41 players to fix it will be able to play in the event. If you do not take action to correct your ID and wait until the last minute, you WILL NOT be able to play in this tournament. We WILL NOT be adding players past 128.
Registration closes this Friday night at midnight CST. Please check your match comm over the weekend to schedule your matches. You will be required to play one each day (mon, tues, wed, thurs)
EVERYONE: YOU MUST USE CMN3 FOR EVERY MATCH OR YOU WILL FORFEIT. you can download CMN3 here: http://www.cevo.com/?page=downloads
If there is something that you don't understand about this tournament, or if you have questions about anything, there are CEVO officials available to help you EVERY evening in our ventrilo server. I don't want any of you to take a forfeit loss because of something you did not know. We will take the time to assist you in anyway possible. I will be in the ventrilo server tonight starting at 9:30 CST tonight. I challenge any of you that don't completely understand something about this event to come talk to me tonight.

I look forward to seeing some of you tonight!

You are ready to go.

So it says my team is not yet ready (just me). Is that how it is supposed to be or is it filled up already?
Everything that has been noted I have to do is done.
EDIT: Nevermind, I guess it takes time, I'm now in Group A. Good luck fellow players!

I also signed up, put in my unique game ID and it still has my status as "not ready" D:

Everyone who has signed up correctly should as of this moment be in the 'ready' group on this page: http://www.cevo.com/index.php?page=div&id=343&func=standings&view=bygroup if you aren't in the top group and you have signed up you need to get on our vent right away to get whatever is wrong fixed. There are as of right now 8 spots left in the ready group and that will be full very soon.

6 empty spots left in this event. Anyone wishing to participate needs to register and update their SC2 ID tonight!

Sapphire Minerals Tournament Map Rotation and Brackets
As we gear up for the start of the SC2 Sapphire Minerals Tournament, please note the following map rotation, deadline dates, and brackets along with general tournament guidelines. This tournament is a double elimination tournament all the way through to the finals bracket.
Seeding Seeding for this tournament will be completely random. The "Home" team will choose the first map to be played. The "Away" team will chose the second map to be played. If the result of these maps are 1-1, the third and final map to be played will be the CEVO selected map for that round. Each team needs to post their map selection in match comm prior to the start of the match. CMN3 MUST be used for all matches.
Match Deadlines Match deadlines are absolute and extensions are not negotiable. The initial brackets of play will have a match every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evening. While teams are encouraged to play their matches early, it is not required and every team should plan on playing a match on every evening of a deadline.
Map Rotation Round 1 : Lost Temple - Monday, August 23rd Round 2 : Desert Oasis - Tuesday, August 24th Round 3 : Steppes of War - Wednesday, August 25th Round 4 : Blistering Sands - Thursday, August 26th Round 5 : Metalopolis - Monday, August 30th Round 6 : Delta Quadrant - Tuesday, August 31st Round 7 : Kulas Ravine - Wednesday, September 1st Round 8 : Xel’Naga Caverns - Thursday, September 2nd Round 9 : Scrap Station - Monday, September 6th Round 10 : Lost Temple - Tuesday, September 7th Semi Finals : Steppes of War - Wednesday, September 8th Finals : Lost Temple - Thursday, September 9th
Brackets Sapphire Minerals Bracket A Sapphire Minerals Bracket B Sapphire Minerals Bracket C Sapphire Minerals Bracket D

Dispute Guidelines
1. Disputes must be filed within 1 hour of the completion of the match. 2. Disputes must contain a detailed description of why you are disputing the player in question. (You can file the dispute, then update past the 1 hour mark.) 3. Players have twenty four (24) hours to upload their replay once disputed.
As always, on behalf of CEVO, I would like to thank everyone for their participation in our Sapphire Minerals Tournament. Best of luck to all teams!

So we simply have to play our matches at some time in the (PDT) evening on those dates? There's no particular time slated to show up?
|
when will the matches show up in CMN3?
|
Desert oasis really needs to be taken out. Wasn't this discussed on cevos tournament in beta? It's unplayable. I have never seen a protoss win except doing something like a 2gate rush.

Damn people act like 5 dollars is there whole life savings

Seriously CEVO is a legit company from FPS games, and while they may be new with trying to get involved with an RTS game, people need to really get off their nuts and give them a chance. Everyone wants SC2 to grow competitively, and yet so many people are super picky and bitchy when more competition tries to come.
Edit:
I also just want to say that I hope this thread hasn't frustrated you too much Nelson.. there will always be people bitching about something, but I know I'm not alone in being really glad that you guys are getting into SC2!

On August 18 2010 19:41 Sealteam wrote: So we simply have to play our matches at some time in the (PDT) evening on those dates? There's no particular time slated to show up?
You just need to play sometime that evening. First round match will be put into the system tomorrow, at which time you can login and start discussing on Match Comms what time will be good for you to play. Match Comms is like a small forum for you and your opponent to post messages to and admins can check on it to verify people are being reasonable with their requests.

Matches will show up tomorrow night when we schedule them in our system. At that point you will want to logon to the website and go to your matches and start discussing a time with your opponent.

Nice and Thanks

All Round 1 matches have been scheduled. The deadline for round 1 is MONDAY the 23rd, you CAN play earlier if you both agree. You should have received at least 2 emails if you are in the tournament, one saying the match is scheduled and 1 about a new Match Comm post. Please go to: http://www.cevo.com/index.php?page=account&func=schedulematch to see a list of your matches and to schedule the match.
ALSO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL CMN3. It is required for ALL matches, the link to download is: http://www.cevolved.com/data/CMN3_Install.exe After you have installed it, make sure you can logon and you see your match listed. If you have any problem at all please join our vent: texas.cevo.nationvoice.com port: 4000 and ask an admin for assistance. Also you can create a support ticket at support.cevo.com

Hmm is everyone in cevo afk atm >_> 20 minutes past match time and my opponent still hasn't shown up. Vent seems to be completely afk so I posted here :x
|
so we only get a day from now on to schedule AND play matches?
|
On August 24 2010 05:25 EleanorRIgby wrote: so we only get a day from now on to schedule AND play matches?
Yea, appears that way from the schedule in the brackets.
edit: 27 minutes and still waiting ~_~
|
Normally there aren't officials on that early. Around 7 when people are off work we are available.

You don't NEED to come into vent if your opponent isn't online. Just logon to CMN, wait the 15 minutes and file a forfeit win ticket at support.cevo.com (In the future). Getting in CMN is logged so it is proof that you were around for your match.
Also matches will be scheduled very soon for round 2, they are all to be played by TUESDAY at MIDNIGHT CENTRAL US time. Both Upper and lower bracket matches will be played.
|
I got a forfeit loss even though I showed up on battle.net and my opponent wasn't even online... I need to get this fixed so I can play my next round...

Ur probably screwed someone did this to me at the Newegg thingy and they never fixed it so...
GL trying to get it fixed tho.
|
sigh**** everything is so fucking confusing as fuck on the website... i couldn't even find the place to report my "no-show win" ... until i read on the 6th page of forums here.. the day after.. omg... this is so lame..
|
|
I have filed a support ticket! Thanks for responding to this thread.
|
The double forfeit has been changed and you have been schedule your match. Please get in contact with your opponent via match comm.
|
The third round is now scheduled, everyone left in the tournament has until midnight central tonight (25th) to play their match!
|
They really need ability to change timezone. I just accepted a match for when I'm playing in a tournament.
|
What do you mean timezone? If you mean change an accepted match time, if both teams agree on match comm an admin will be happy to change the time.
|
I want it to show est not cdt.
|
lol is it really that difficult to add ONE hour in your head?
|
There is a warning right under the proposed times saying that all times are in CDT and you need to convert it to your time zone. No matter the system it 'can' be confusing if you don't pay attention.
|
I added one hour the wrong way lol. Converting time shouldn't be a requirement =p
|
On August 26 2010 05:12 CagedMind wrote: I added one hour the wrong way lol. Converting time shouldn't be a requirement =p
Well, it is. You still haven't posted asking your opponent for a time change, if you get him to agree I will change the time.
|
What is the point of the losers bracket? Do they have a chance to get back in?
Sorry i couldn't figure it out on my own.
|
Yes, if you look at the brackets round 5 is the upper bracket finals, round 9 is the lower bracket finals. Then the winner of the upper bracket and lower brackets play in round 10. This match and further the 'double elim' part ends.

how is a 4870, 4850, and a 3870 $600 worth of prizes?
|
On August 26 2010 12:20 yourwhiteshadow wrote: how is a 4870, 4850, and a 3870 $600 worth of prizes? It isn't but they got rid of the registration fee, thus the cash prizes.

You are a few weeks late here, but the prizes were the graphics cards plus 200 in cash. So now its more like 400 instead of 600. That part of the post wasn't edited correctly. We couldn't charge an entrance fee because of licencing agreements with blizzard. I believe the details of that are still being worked out for our next event.

You would also be lying to say that those cards are worth anything near $400 total, maybe a year or two ago.
