I do see my name on the top right but once I select staircase view I do not see any option to select league goal or to choose race.
Selecting your league goal is just a personal thing, eventually we'll get that stuff integrated into ggtracker, but for now, just decided what your league goal will be and start pursuing it.

So ive been doing the staircase method since JaKaTaK talked to our group in eXe. Ive been hitting GM spending, and master saturation. I was doing this on steps 1-5 easily and then would get into 1v1 and lose using the same method i do on step 5. Dunno why im losing, any tips?
|
@eXePolar Remember the goal of TheStaircase is to train you in the basics of Macro in Sc2. Once you have reached Step 5 and are getting GM spending and Master Saturation on All bases 4/5 times, you have finished TheStaircase. Now it is time for you to use the principles of Macro you learned in TheStaircase and apply them to strategies.
Remember that this will not work for you unless you follow the steps specifically. Do not move on to the next step unless you have passed 4 of your last 5 games with GM spending and Masters Saturation Speed on every base.
|
@JaKaTaK, my goal was originally diamond saturation, and diamond spending, i did all the steps and would get 4/5 games hitting GM and Master or 5/5.What would be a good way to learn and practice strategy, while implementing what i learned in the staircase method?
|
Find some strategies you think will be fun. If you're in Gold or lower, you can get away with one strat for all the matchups. Once you hit plat, you'll probably want to find one for each matchup. Try to get the best spending and saturation while using these strategies as you can.

This is a good way to learn, and it has to be on the top =) BUUUUMP

I have a question. Ever since the new season started, I have a high grandmaster-SQ in most games and most of my enemies as well. Did something change?
|
Nothing changed with the way SQ is calculated as far as I know. If you consistently have a GM SQ, then you should be looking at your saturation next for ways to improve.
|
One of the guidelines posted is to use camera location keys and the minimap instead of mouse/screen edge scrolling and keyboard scrolling.
My question is how are units supposed to be microed without that? Once an army reaches a certain size, double tapping the control group tends to put the camera on the center of that group and not where I'd want the camera to be, which would be either behind the army so I can have it retreat or near the front so I can target enemy units with feedback, storms, forcefields, etc.
Struggling a bit with building placement as well without screen scroll.
What's the trick to this I'm missing here?
|
Its not that you should edge scroll ever. Its that you should avoid it as much as possible by using cameras and being accurate with your minimap clicks. Edge scrolling is definitely useful is certain circumstances, like microing a big army/battle, (or even a smaller one) but it is the least efficient way to move the screen (aside from maybe the arrow keys).
|
Actually, I disabled edge scroll for a while to stop myself from using it unnecessarily. Worked like a charm.

the ggtracker thingy told me something I've known for a long time: high level spending, decent macro. what it doesn't tell me is the true reason for me being bad: my silver level decision making.
|
Unfortunately we haven't quite been able to quantify decision making just yet, but don't think we're not trying
In my experience the stronger fundamentals I have at a skill, the easier it is to make good decisions because I am not weighed down by the things that can be automated.

Disclaimers before you look at these games: I used to play Zerg exclusively (Plat-Diamond in WoL, Gold in HotS), and recently switched to Terran. ALSO, I used to use standard hotkeys and have switched to using TheCore a few weeks ago. I was also stoned.

Obviously I'll do better with more practice and less pot, but how am I playing masters/GM level people in the gold league?

It happens, gold players who get their game on and sometimes manage to spend like GMs. I'm gold and sometimes I do that. Also, I think it has got to do with the redistribution of ranks this season, which might have caused some diamond/low plat to come in.

I don't know if others in bronze and silver have the same kinds of results, but I did not play for about 12 weeks this summer. When I came back I did mass marine, got ranked 100 bronze. Did that into Silver, then switched to Yume's 15 gas build again and have been bouncing up and down in terms of win/lose. I tried the staircase the last 5 games on there, 3 vs. very easy AI, 2 on ladder. Before Yume's build from that guide he made, I was following Filter.
I know my multitasking stinks. I know I leave rax sitting there doing nothing. But the last two ladder games I did using Step 1 were fun, even though I lost. I had fun since coming back but I was starting to get frustrated again. Having lots of Bonus Pool makes the losses on Ladder a bit less frustrating. Before I stopped playing I was doing the same bouncing up and down in Silver. I'm targeting Gold for now.
I'm going to add heelions first. Never use them much, I have horrible micro.
tl;dr? Sometimes its fun to go Mass Marine on Ladder.

Glad to see you all are having fun :D
Its important to remember Spending is not 100% of starcraft skill. GGTracker (and I) are working on quantifying more of the many facets of what determine skill in starcraft, if you're doing well in spending, then you likely are weak in another area. Also, remember that Spending Skill is nothing without Saturation Speed. (If you aren't making workers and don't have much of an income, its pretty easy to be GM spending).
|
This is very cool! I have done something similar in the past, but on a very simple level. This is significantly more developed and awesome. I will definitely try it out.
Out of curiosity, does the ggtracker website track your progress through the levels? Ie I pick Protoss, goal of diamond level and then the site tracks my last 4/5 game efficiency, displaying what level I'm at? That was a terrible sentence. I'm sorry.
|
I know what you mean, terrible sentence or not
We're working on something like that (GGTracker is in the hiring process for a developer).
