How does the JakaTakk method compare to Filter's method? Filter taught me macro mechanics and introduced me to a deeper level of play leading to Platinum promo.

The biggest mistake they made with the SC2 rolllout was focussing everything on the hypercompetive cutthroat ladder play, and then providing 0 resources for casual and new players to survive in that environment beyond cheesey tutorials.

They are very similar, in that both methods focus on paring the game down to very simple, essential concepts and gradually building forward into more advanced play. They artificially restrict your decisions so that you can focus on a) continually making *A* decision and b) try to make the correct decision within a more limited framework.

TheStaircase and FilterSC Methods are very similar. I think you get to make more of your own decisions with TheStaircase whereas FilterSC's Method Restricts you to a specific build.

I don't know, I recently started playing again (haven't really played since WoL) and I am trying this to relearn. It is pretty fun to be beating golds with only mass unupgraded marines.

How many Queens do I build for Step 0? And what are good indicators? In my first game I set my goal to gold, build a Hatch at the natural and 4 Queens and I wasn't even close to 50 Energy with 100% Creepspread around 27 min. Do I miss anything?

So this season I have played an awful lot (like 700 games :/) and I am still stuck in gold. I have a lot of my builds memorized and am looking to just increase my macro, I have always been hardcore in the games that i play (fairly new to sc2) the only thing I can think that I am lacking is obviously mechanics (since that is what will win you games). I figure I will give this a try, on that note would you recommend I just hammer this out multiple times until I meet all my goals (grandmaster/ master everything)? Or would you recommend me taking it slower and only going for 'gold' league goals/benchmarks?

There's 58 pages. I wonder if it's worth developing a mod to train with this. I might do that this next semester as a game design/programming project... (no promises)

Anyone think that there would be enough of a player base to justify it?
Can we help spread the word and create pressure to get Rob Pardo to replace Browder as head of Sc2? Pardo led the team for broodwar, frozen throne, and wow/BC. We need to make this a thing before LotV development starts. Think about it.

I have a question about the benchmarks for the 3rd base saturation speed metric. The benchmarks for even the lower leagues are really low, i.e., between 1:00 to 1:30 minutes. My question is how people manage this? If I build a 3rd base when my first 2 are mineral saturated (2 x 16 workers), then it takes a at least several minutes before there are 16 more workers for base #3. Obviously people are "saving up" some workers that start working on base #3 once it gets built. What's wisdom here? Have 2x24 workers on bases #1 and #2 and send 2x8 to the base #3 once it's done?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts!

For 3rd base saturation most players will have saved up a bit before their 3rd finishes. Don't stop building workers just because you've saturated your first 2 bases! This should help.

Just started Step 1 as Zerg and for me it's amazing how good pure lings without speed works in silverleague. Won four out of five games, Spending Skill 2x Grandmaster, 1x Master, 1x Diamond and 1x Bronze and broke my personal APM Record (without spamming )

Edit: Just 1x Master, not 2x

At first I just A-Move my army and rally all of them to my enemy. But then I catch myself watching and controlling the fight and miss my Macro. How can I get rid of this behaviour?

Practice keeping a unit active on the map at all times. If it dies, replace it. It will be very hard at first, but if you stick with it, your multitasking will improve as you climb the staircase.

EDIT: start this at step 2

I've stared with this and passed step 1, now on step2 and start of season with all ppl doing 1 base all ins, hard to get into macro, so trying to play defensive now!

Having good fun, thx JaKaTak!

Working on a revamp/revitalization of TheStaircase! New videos and other material will be out shortly. Please subscribe to youtube.com/tutorialcentralSc2 for the latest videos on TheStaircase (and probably some other useful stuff).

In other news...

Team Jmove

Team Jmove isn't just for users of TheCore or TheStaircase (although most of us are), anyone is welcome to join. The only requirement is that you don't act like an asshole, or put more accurately:

The goal of team Jmove is to have as much fun as possible playing Sc2, without impeding on the fun of others.

You might be a serious player in search of people to train 1v1s with, or an arcade only player. Maybe you just like to play team games. Maybe you just want to have that sweet Jmove Tag and logo of TheCore in game. Whatever your style is you are welcome to hang out with us and have a good time.

For the time being there is a 100 member limit and we're accepting everyone interested in joining on a first come first served basis

To be invited you have to be online at the same time as an officer (unfortunately thats just the way it works). So go to TheJaKaChaT group (not the chat channel but the group) when you're online and we'll invite you. If this doesn't work out, just PM me and we can set up a time.

EU Server is officially up and running for Jmove, but we don't currently have any EU players, so if you want to get things started on EU, PM me and we can meet to set it up. I'll be on the lookout for officers to run things in EU if there is enough interest.

Also, if you want to email me my email address is thejakatak@gmail.com.

GLHF!

Thanks for keeping this alive JaKaTaK. After playing SC2 since August 2012 and a good amount of BW and WC3 before that, I'm giving this a try from step 0, hoping to break some bad habits that are probably the reason I'm stuck in Silver. I'm also interested in joining Jmove, but I'll work that out through the Bnet group.

I'm curious about this as well. I was thinking I'd set an arbitrary benchmark and constraints to beat before moving to Step 1, such as 4 queens, keep all below 50 energy and creep up a 1v1 map by 25 minutes or less? I was also thinking of trying to saturate 3 or 4 bases while doing it, though I know that creeps into (no pun intended) Step 1.

Edited to add: keeping energy below 50 is pretty tough with 4 queens! I'm thinking I'll add in injects on 3 bases and building overlords and drones until I max out, to work on preventing supply blocks. Still plan to leave spending to step 1. I guess you might call this step 0.5.?

Thanks again!
