Left Handed Core Layout

Lefties looking for a comfortable layout may wish to adopt my left-handed version of "The Core" scheme:

  • Windows Key acts as a Shift key. (I changed it in windows registry, using KeyTweak)
  • I use Mouse4 for CameraPush. (Razer Death Adder, Left Handed Version)
  • I only utilise 6 hotkey groups. Spare Keys for others if needed.
  • I don't use the TownCamera command

I'm a bit confused, according to http://jakatak.github.io/thecorevisualizer/visualizer/ with the qwerty layout and Protoss Right Handed Medium layout it says when the nexus is selected the probe should be on the I key, however in game its bound to the o key, so when I try to hold alt and do alt-o to bind my second camera to my expansion it makes a probe... also according to the visualizer the mother ship should be on the / key in game its bound to the M key... it seems like its all messed up and I cant set the camera hotkeys.

New CG options are huge. I'm busy with CSN for the time being, but everyone should be looking at ways to incorporate one or both of them into their layout.

I'm using TheCore ZRM and i think about buying a new mouse that has side buttons. I'm wondering how efficient it would be to assign important hotkeys to mouse buttons so i can press them with my thumb? For examample inject or a modifier for calling up camera locations.

Yes as Zerg it is amazing, morphing baneling/ravager/Lurker and automatically remove them from group control is a game changer, I'm just sad that they are in HoTS, just for that reason I just want to play LoTV.

Thanks for all the work you put into TheCore JaKaTaK, I am a RMT v2 and have been having trouble. When I have a unit selected and I try to go to a camera (not often, but often enough to make me angry). Sometimes I end up creating a control group and not getting to the location because I must have not had both ctrl and shift fully pressed. I tried changing all camera location recall to just shift and the letter, then also when I am shift clicking scv's after building its faster for me. So I then made to create control group 1-3 use ctrl and shift together. I hope I use the location hotkeys more than creat new control group. I am just wondering if there are any possible downsides to this change that I may have overlooked?

Okay, what the hell, now the visualizer is saying that the probe is SUPPOSED to be on O not I.. Did someone change something? Okay now its back to saying it sould be I, is there two versions of the visualizer? I'm using V2.0

So I want to learn TheCore for LotV. As Protoss I will use the PRM v. 2.0 for my US QWERTY keyboard. Also there is a video on JaKaTaK's twitch where he explaines 'TheCore+', so I also would like to include this changes,

As I understand it this requires only rebinding the physical keys on the right side of the keyboard for easier modifiers by binding shift to ctrl, ctrl to alt and the key left of ctrl to shift. The create location modifier is then alt-ctrl, jump to location is alt, create controll group is shift as well as shift-ctrl and add to controll group is ctrl.

Now I have two problems. First of the 'center on current selection' hotkey is by default bound to 'alt'. This leads to conflicts when I want to jump to a location, because if I have selectet my Nexus at my first and want to jump to my natural by pressing 'alt-;' the camera is centered on my first nexus instead. So where should I put my 'center on current selection' key? For now I simply unbound it, but I don't know if that is a mistake, because I maybe need it for purposes I'm not yet seeing.

Second, and by far more important: how can I change the hotkeys for the new units and abilities in LotV and what would be good to use? On the command card in the hotkeys options the new units are missing for me and the ones that are set by default won't work (for example the adept is build with 'h' from the nexus but if I press 'h' it is a sentry that is built instead).

I am starting to use the Core 2.0 (RRS format, US QWERY), I just don't have buttons on my mouse :-(, so I will need to redefine the buttons for next and previous sub-group.

In the intro the following is recommended: "Some like Control Groups on the mouse, some don’t have side mouse buttons at all. By default, these buttons are used for next and previous subgroup. Rotate Camera, Next/Previous subgroup, CGs 9 and 10, and select all army are all interchangeable. For example, if I had a mouse that did not have side mouse buttons, I could bind next subgroup to the key for rotate camera right."

Unfortunately in the HotKey file the key for CameraTurnRight is undefined (which is already weird by itself..).

Which keys would be recommended for the RRS format to move back and forth through the sub-groups ?

I've been trying to get started with the core too and had the same issue - been terribly confused with a lot of versions and sources seeming to be different TT thanks for sharing. I think I used that one at first but somehow lost it and ended up using the 1.0 one instead. Seems like the 1.0 visualizer is linked under resources and the 2.0 one through the "interactive demo" at the top.

Just a quick question to make sure I got this right - as the master spreadsheet recommends macro 1 as CG 1 and macro 2 as CG 4 with PRM that means macro 1 (production) is suggested as P and macro 2 (nexus & upgrades) as K? (--> build probe = K (ring finger), O (middle finger) ). Will do some experimentation with what is hotkeyed to which group in the end though I think.

I'm having a similar problem with the CORE 2.0 ZRM. I have no buttons on my mouse, so I want to rebind next and previous subgroup to the buttons for CameraTurnRight and CameraTurnLeft like he did in the video, but for these hotkeys, CameraTurnRight is bound to "/" which is build advanced building. So if I try to make next subgroup "/" it unbinds a bunch of hotkeys.

I was thinking about this too. I might try just replacing the normal "create hotkey" function with the new "steal units and create hotkey" function since I never have units in two different hotkeys anyway. I think it would work the same way or better in pretty much every case I can think of. There are problem some cases I'm not thinking of, though.

I use the Core v1, RRM. In core1, you center camera with alt and set camera locations (the first 6), using alt+another key. Since I only do this a couple times a game, I've changed center camera to alt+ctrl and set camera location to alt+control+another key. It's not easy to hit, but i'm typically doing it when nothing is going on, so it's not a big deal. The core 1 comes with two floating cameras that don't center for rally points/creep and stuff, and those didn't have to change.

Then, I use the alt modifier as remove and add. I use alt+shift as remove and create, but I'm expecting that to remove and create I'll just do a two press combo of the normal create control group (ctrl+shift in core v1) followed up with remove and add to the same group (alt).

I'm sure there's a more optimal way to do this, but I don't really have to relearn anything, which is nice.

I think the problem with this is specifically with archon mode. Whenever you add units to a group I think they're going to get removed from all of your allies control groups.
