Weekly Cup Competitions
Week of November 10 - 16
by Wax
Zerg enjoyed a strong week in online competition, thanks to Solar's continued rise and Reynor's return in the Kung Fu Cup.

November 10: WardiTV Mondays #59

The week began with Solar winning the first leg of a WardiTV double-header, taking home cup #59 with victories over Nicoract, Elazer, herO, and MaxPax. Solar's ZvP series highlighted his mastery of the "the f*** is a Hive?" meta in the match-up, with neither herO nor MaxPax able to withstand his onslaught of aggressive strategies. Not to be labeled a one-trick pony (or more accurately, a pony of many tricks within a limited time frame), Solar did close out MaxPax with strong Hive play in the deciding map of the finals (VOD).

November 10: WardiTV Mondays #60

The second leg of back-to-back WardiTV cups featured an impressive underdog run from Percival, who reached the finals while taking down previous cup winner Solar along the way (unfortunately, I couldn't find VOD coverage of this upset). Alas, Percival's underdog run was cut brutally short in the finals, with herO earning a quick 3-0 sweep by shutting down a 2-base all-in, mangling Percival with Phoenixes, and then winning in an old-fashioned macro game (VOD (4h12m)).

November 13: PiGosaur Cup #57

After skipping Monday's competitions, Clem parachuted in to win Thursday's Pigosaur cup. After flexing his off-race PvT skills in the earlier rounds, Clem sealed his win with a typical, masterful TvZ macro performance against Solar in the finals (Solar managed to take a map thanks to a sneaky early-game Zergling run-by) (VOD).

November 12-16: Kung Fu Cup Monthly #3

The restoration of StarCraft II service in China also brought the return of the Kung Fu Cup, which held a $800 monthly event to celebrate its return. This was enough to draw Reynor back into the cup fray, and the BASILISK Zerg shined by taking first place. The BO7 finals against herO featured aggressive play from both sides, but Reynor showed his prowess on both offense and defense to take a 4-2 victory (VOD (final day)).

November 16: Sparking Tuna Cup #113
![[image loading]](/staff/Waxangel/misc/weeklies/sparklingtuna113.png)
While we haven't regularly covered the Sparkling Tuna Cup due to its somewhat inconsistent attendance by top players, cup #113 is definitely worth a mention due to its eye-catching finals card of Solar vs Classic. Solar continued his recent surge with a 3-0 sweep of the EWC runner-up, using—you guessed it—aggressive early/mid-game strategies to overwhelm his opponent (VOD). While the ZvP meta is looking quite binary at the moment, top Zergs (non-Serral category) do seem to be finding a way to stay competitive with their Protoss peers.
