So far, we have one Archon-friendly change that we’re exploring:

When you select units and use the Alt + (number) command, those units are added to that number’s corresponding control group, and removed from other control groups.

Looks like we need a new modifier, boys.

Very interesting. And very awesome! Excited for this. Hope it stays.

So i decided to try out the Core today.

And it doesn't work - and i don't know why.
I'm using a Mechanical Keyboard with a swiss layout (cuz im swiss), so i downloaded the german version of the Core, PRM.

So i looked at "The core visualized" under resources, and the German version in there is clearly missing groups, and certain hotkeys just straight up dont work on my keyboard. There is not even the key mapped for my probe to make basic buildings (but it is in the core I downloaded). How am I going to figgure out the core, if i can't use the visualizer to my help? I can only use 4 of the 9 control groups, and those are like 1, 5 7 and 0 or something.

So yes... can anyone help me with that? Have other german or swiss player encountered similiar problems? Do i just have to spend more time with the core - meaning, was the download complete and functional? I downloaded over Skydrive, Play Protoss and used the file: The Core 2.0, German PRM.

PS: I just noticed there IS a "swiss" section on skydrive. I will use that instead and report back if that fixed my problems. Brb

Edit: Okay, my bad. I should've used the swiss one from the start - simply didnt notice that it was available. I still wish there was an option in the Visualizer for the swiss layout, so it can help me memorizing.

But the Core works. So that's cool

I have a question.
When I use ZRM2.0, what finger is used to press U(for queen)?
I think pinky is better than ring.

I asked this question to JaKaTaK before and he said to use the pinky.

So for the inject sequence you would press:
- "U" (Pinky)
- "-" (Middle finger)
- "Shift" (Hold Thumb)

Then you hit base cam with index and clic, base cam, clic

Hi Everyone! First time posting on TL, but I've been lurking for a while now.

I cooked up a more detailed visual guide for personal reference while I learn TheCore 2.0 ZRM, and I was wanted to share it here to make sure I didn't make any errors or miss anything.

It's a bit big and I feel like it probably has more information than I really needed, but I have it split and pulled up on my other monitors while practicing so it suits my needs alright for a quick glance here and there.

http://imgur.com/CB7NuZZ is the link if anyone cares to take a peek.

Thanks!

@brook8128: The reason behind JPOI is probably that the pinky is regarded as the strongest finger, followed by the index and the 2 others. But I think it is totally OK to use POIJ or JIOP instead, because the difference is only marginal.

And to answer the second question: It depends on what you are pressing afterwards. If you want to use the spell on J with your queens, you want to use your ring to press U to avaoid finger repetition. If not, you are free to choose.

@Stolas: Nice work, it looks awesome.

What is you opinion on using TheCore with a keypad like the Orbweaver? To me it seems like the keys are easier to reach and as far as i know the thumb is used for modifiers so it could work well with layered hoteys like in TheCore.

edit:
I downloaded TheCore ZRM 2.0 this is my experience so far:
Using camera location injects with manual queen selection seems very inconveniet since i have to release ctrl+shift before i can use inject, otherwise i would select the hatchery.
In comparison with the common camera hotkey setup (F1-F4) i need one more action per base since i have to press AND release a modifier.
I don't think you can ever be as fast using this method and TheCore as you are with a more standard hotkey setup. I recently switched to this method and i don't want to miss the additional control it gives me.
Did i miss something?
Do the other zergs use different methods?

@Quakecomm
I might be feeling into in when I do the update for LotV, but in general I don't have the time to be keeping up with hotkeys for both games.

It works this way:

Select all queens, press "-" for inject, hold shift+ctrl with your thumb, now go through your cams (j,p,o,i,...) and click them, because you are holding shift all the time you can continue injecting without pressing "-" again

Edit: Of course you can also use the rapid fire method by pressing "-" and "=" at the same time if you keyboard supports it, or do it by pressing them in rapidly in succession

Is it alright if you use TRM for Zerg? I think muscle memory is gonna be a bit hard to change at this point.

If you've already learned TRM, stick with it. As a rule of thumb, learn one version of TheCore, and never re-learn it, add keys and make small adjustments as necessary, but once you've made the switch from a "normal" layout to TheCore, the majority of efficiency, ergonomic, and utility gains are already in place.

How long is it taking people to get used to this???

I'm masters, I've installed TheCore. Made some modifications so I can memorize my cameras and control groups, and have played against AI for about 7 games now. Getting 30 APM at best lol

Not to make excuses for myself, but I'm 27 and have played SC2 since it came out. Has anyone not been able to make the switch? Feel like I'm going to playing AI for a month or two at this rate.

Hi guys!

I'm using TheCore 2 weeks ago, but I'm feeling my right wrist forced when I play some games. Before I played with Grid, and I never had discomfort in the wrist. That is normal at the begining?

Any suggestions?
Thanks.

@Newblar

Adjust your expectations and follow these steps:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/140gNhKs_1VCG6JJ9ijvEblKI9UQcpUKDTPap5t_kBeU

Playing games is the slowest way to mechanical proficiency. Learn one thing at a time and your overall learning time will be much faster.

Also keep in mind that TheCore is not likely to raise your APM, but instead make it more likely that you'll beat players that have more APM than you due to the increase efficiency of your actions.

Expect 2-4 weeks of learning time depending on how often you train.

EDIT:
@Estevez

Because you are using your hand differently it will take some time to build up the muscles and coordination to play with TheCore, you will likely feel a little sore (like you just worked out) in the beginning, but this should subside quickly assuming you are playing with correct posture and are breathing in a slow relaxed manner.

I feel like I'm about to ask a stupid question, but if I play (Protoss) Left Handed Small and I try to create my camera hotkey which on TAB with ALT, I alt tab out of the game... If I disable alt tab in the options of the game they key combination just stops working. I wont alt tab, but the camera location won't be created. Am I missing something? Or is this something you guys are unaware of?

It works, and in 1v1. This is big imo, will be of much help to set up different groups and split the armies.
