Using RRM 2.0, why do cameras 6,7,8 have different/alternate keyboard shortcuts than the rest (the only ones in the CTRL column)?

Further, the "set" and "recall" shortcuts of these aren't the same, e.g.:

Set Cam-8: [CTRL -]
Cam-8: [CTRL P]

I'm guessing it has something to do with those three cameras being "fluid", changing often through a game, so perhaps to assist in mentally separating these 3 cams from static base-cams.

Any help?

That is for a special Camera Creep Spread sequence for Zerg. They are alternates so if you are not using the Creep Spread sequence then you can just ignore them and use the cameras normally.

hi, is there anyway to use the core for the control geoos only ? I want to be able to use control groups 6- 0 without having to move my left hand but I'm comfortable with every other hit key right now . So is there a way to assign just the control groups 6- 0 ?

Is there a different key that could be bound to tumor creep spread in ZRM?

When doing the creep cam sequence it makes you press 2 different keys in a row with the same finger. I tried to bind that command to a mouse button but it seems that the repeat rate is not as fast as the keyboard because it always takes about a second for the key repeat to take effect.

I've been thinking about remapping the function key next to ctrl to a normal key so that i can use that for spreading the tumor. Still not ideal because it makes me press 2 different keys with the same finger but at least there's a smaller distance gap between the keys. I would definetly go with the mouse button if it would be possible to adjust the repeat rate to be as fast as the keyboard.

By the way is it legal in the tournament rules to remap keys on the keyboard? Its been asked before but i never saw the answer. I also tried to do a research and i haven't found anything.

Thanks

Tryed to search myself but didint found legit announcement from blizzard.
But people seem to think that changing one key to other key (A--> B) is okay,
but changing it to multiple keys is not (A--> ctrl+B)

But who knows if tournament rules would differ. i think you gota ask blizzard forums again and hope some community guy answers

Hey there some serious question.. i am a long time fan of sc2. Looking streams, playing it most of the time in campaign and so on. Actually i wanna get started with multiplayer on a casual occasion which means i wont have time for 10 hour sessions every day. In fact perhaps on a Weekend but otherwise just a game then and there...

Now the question: As i start building up my skills from scratch, i wanted to learn a proper hotkey setup from the beginning. The advantage i have is, that i yet haven't learned any hotkeys so my memory is open to any Setup. I've learned there a 3 Setups considered good: DarkGrid, FleetKeys and The Core (this).
So my Problem is i can't decide which will be the best for me -_-. Any Points for this Setup over the other two? Need Help !!

The reason i went for the Core is because all the keys are layered and accessed with the modifier, so you dont have to jump around on your keyboard to access all the keys. The fact that the modifiers are pressed using the thumb allows you to press ctrl and shift with the same finger and it gives you more flexibility to reach all the keys while having the finger on the modifier. It's much harder to reach as many keys while having a finger on ctrl on the left side of the keyboard.

The core is made so its as comfortable and fast as it can be. They made it so there is a minimal finger repetition (pressing same keys twice with same finger) and it has the rapid fire integrated. You also have easy access to all the cameras and control groups.

All i know from the other layouts you mentionned is that they are on the left side of the keyboard and the only thing that is better from the core is that its easier to learn but not as efficient.

If you decide to learn the core, you should read everything on the first page of this thread before using it because there are some infos you need to have read otherwise you will use it wrong. Those things include the tilt of the keyboard, the home keys, the recommended control group keys for unit types, the game start sequence, the key alternates sequences etc...

You don't NEED the info above but, i assume that if you choose the core, its because you want to be as efficient as possible.

Also one more thing that is nice about the core is that there is a different layout for Zerg, Terran, Protoss and Random (if you dont have a main race).

@brook you can manually add the hotkey to your hotkey file. Add the line "LiberatorAGMode/Liberator=I" in the right spot.
For "I" use whatever hotkey you want to use. Now i have to find out how to transform it back. :D

Edit: The command for airmode is "LiberatorAAMode/Liberator=9"

On RRM, how come middle finger is supposed to cover '0'? It seems like a key perfectly aligned for index/pointer finger, especially with the tilt. I know TheCore is about a "fluid" hand, but to grab '0' with middle requires a shifting of two fingers off their keys (middle and index) when it could be reached more simply by the index finger alone.

Curious if there's specific reasoning for this, as it's the only finger that has a key that has to cut back "against the grain", so to speak (cut back + offset other fingers in the process).

I use Alt+A, Alt+S, Alt+D, Alt+F to jump to my bases, and the same keys with Ctrl+Alt to set the locations. Works very well for me.

I've also set Ctrl+Alt to "Center on Current Selection" and use Ctrl+Alt + left mouse button to add new bases to my hatchery control group.

I can't seem to get the core ZRM hotkeys to work on LOTV beta. Is it not compatible with LOTV, or am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

It's compatible. If the setup doesn't show up ingame (I assume that's the problem), the file isn't in the correct directory, which is the same as for HotS, but with "Starcraft II Beta" instead of "Starcraft II".

If you're not sure you've found the correct directory, simply make a new setup ingame with a certain name, and then search for a file of that name in Windows/Mac OS.

Hello, I am looking into ways to become a better competitive SC2 player. I am completely new to SC2 and trying to start off with the best possible layout and settings. I have completely read the first post but I am a tad confused on some details.
I am right handed and planning to main Terran. I have chosen and downloaded the TRM 2.0 layout.
I am looking for the best possible keys to set each control group to.

From your spreadsheet (reference) these are the suggested keys for each control group.
CC/Ebay P
Rax/Fact/Port O
Main Army ;
Ghost L
Harass 9
Marine Marauder (bio) / Melee (mech) 0
Widow Mine -
Tank [
Viking / Harass =
Drop .

According to the visualizer and in-game.
O, L, 9, 0 are not a possible control group buttons for TRM.

Could someone please suggest the optimal CGs for a Terran player using TRM 2.0?

You're right on your assumptions, try them in game. The Hotkey Separation is way overoptimistic. Some Korean Terran Pros do not even Hotkey their drops and actually keep all their army in one control group. Its not practical to separate your army so much. It costs too much apm which in a fight will be better used microing the groups with the mouse, I tried separating my army into the suggested CGS for a long time and it never felt right, nor was it efficient. The nail in the coffing came after paying attention as to how the pros micro, a good idea in theory, not so good in practice.

P - Is for CC's and Upgrades
O - Is for Rax/Factory/Starport

Pick one or two comfortable Hotkeys for your army and take it from there.

I just downloaded the newest 2.0 and it seems O is not a CG anymore, you are somehow looking at an older Spreadsheet.
My Core does use O as a CG.

@R05, JaKaTaK, thanks for the reply. It wasn't bind to my backspace key. Did some research and found out that it is the base camera key. I'll bind it manually.

@R05, I think I'll give ZRM layout a shot.

I'm not a frequent SC2 player. I used to use The Core in the past, and was pretty successful in getting used to the keys.
After The Core 2.0 came out, I had some trouble getting used to the keys. I also has trouble looking for the spreadsheet for The Core 2.0. After which I used grid thinking that The Core 2.0 wouldn't be ready for LotV.

Would you guys recommending using The Core, The Core 2.0, or the Grid, for getting prepared for LotV?

That is for a special Camera Creep Spread sequence for Zerg. They are alternates so if you are not using the Creep Spread sequence then you can just ignore them and use the cameras normally.

Can Jak/anyone link to where this is taught/explained? I figure I might as well use the Zerg technique since I'm playing random, and then apply those keys to my other races.

I also don't like using ALT/center for those three cam locations, because they center on whatever is selected. So I thought I should learn the Zerg technique for these at the same time.

PS -- Perhaps we could add a section to the first post which links to various posts within the thread explaining/answering key points? It could be a "rolling" section, that basically stars/highlights whatever recent posts are most pertinent to current development, like a "TheCore 2.0beta" section, and then an index of post links.

Just an idea. I see a lot of great posts by Jak and others, but they quickly get lost in the trail once they reach a few pages back.

@Anakaris

I would go with the core 2.0 for LotV because its the latest version of the core and the best. I think they are already working on integrating the new skills into the core 2.0 layout. Also ive asked before if the layout would be changed because of the new skills and they said that the new skills will be on keys that arent currently used. So if you go with the core 2.0, you will have the latest best layout and there wont be much waiting time for them to update it for LotV and also it wont be like learning a new layout when going on LotV.

@Coldblackice

For the creep cam sequence, go on the "Core Master Spreadsheet" under ressource on page one of the thread. Its on "Z.Overview" in the spreadsheet.

Basically the sequence:
- Hold control through the whole thing
- recall the first cam (H)
- click one tumor (with control will select all in range)
- Spread creep
- Make new cam (-)
- go to next cam (J)
- etc...

Im using this with ZRM and its working great. A great way to learn the sequence is to play the arcade map "Creep or die".
