Also, what about the possibility of setting up an active list of current "question-mark keys" in development right now? I think it'd be both helpful and expedient to have a sort of mini-wiki that people can look to in order to see what the current development "debate" is undergoing. I think it'd also help the development process, too, allowing others to contribute feedback and suggestions without having to scour pages of thread to get an idea of where exactly the development process is hung up on. Even for the main developers/contributors, it'd help to see a centralized box of development ?'s. Even something as simple as similar to the "Live Streams" box on the far right of the TL forum page -- just some box that lists current "debates" between particular key positions, e.g., "Build Basic: J vs P", "Patrol: 9 vs M vs U", etc. Other ideas: -A hosted script that fetches the latest beta layout from GitHub. -- a link to this script is inserted and accessed directly from the OP, giving people a fast way to fetch the latest beta layout(s) without having to dink around through GH. It seems there's a lot of confusion and error'ing in this process with people, whether knowing where to go, or which file, or having to copy/paste back and forth, etc. This causes frustration, clogs the thread, and slows down the development process (stunting the feedback we could be getting from others more easily getting the layout, and commenting in thread without GitHub frustrations). -A keypress data collector (voluntary) -- perhaps we could make a keypress data collector that captures all SC2 keyboard input for anyone who voluntarily downloads and uses it, with the ability to upload the keypress data to a server for statistical analysis. Although I'm unsure how much this data would help the Core's development progress, so maybe it wouldn't be of use. But data is always king! ![]() -A wiki and/or poll of suggestions + problems + inefficiencies -- it'd be great if we could better incorporate the userbase to help with the development process. I wager that many don't because they haven't been a long-term part of the process. But what if we had some sort of phase-testing, where it's listed in the OP: "This week's group test: [Build Basic]: U vs K vs O", etc. That's a really basic example, and maybe it'd even be better to break down the week's test to two full keyboard layouts. Any willing users could then take that development assignment on for the week. Basically, breaking down and chunking the development process much like "The Staircase" so we can get more help and input ![]() These all could be incorporated into a "Development" section in the OP. I think it'd be great if we had some sort of section or box prominently placed in the OP that shows where we're currently at in the development process, showing current key assignment "debates"/questions/possibilities, maybe have polls for debates users can vote for, a development assignment/test for the week, a "Fetch" link that grabs the latest beta from GH without any hoops. And any thoughts on the voluntary keypress collector? Might this be helpful to get data from, uploading it to a server for statistical analysis? This program could also even fetch the latest beta and/or other test layouts, e.g., "June-4-11th-TestLayoutA", "June-4-11th-TestLayoutB", etc. Just some ideas.

The Smart Command alternate is now mapping over. @Coldblackice First of all thanks for the long, thoughtful post. I'll do my best to respond to everything ![]() TheCore 2.0 final version will be decided when we've run out of good ideas (more or less) and when all the files have been successfully built. Usually it's that last part that holds us back. I agree that the development process could be smoothed out. It's difficult to keep up just by reading the thread. I'm totally down for a wiki, or public document or something of the like, just so long as I don't have to manage it. I'm maxed out on time, so I can't afford to add more things to my plate. Would you be interested in setting up/managing such a thing? a script that fetches the latest version would be awesome! Do you have one? or know someone who could make one? keypresses would be cool to see. If we could work with the person that manages such a collector so we can do instant analysis on it that would be even better! Most notably we could be checking for finger repetition percentages and locate action sequences that have finger repetition in them and potentially fix them. We'd also have a solid number of finger repetition vs standard and grid if we could get some control groups going. I really like the idea of finding a way that everyone can get involved. A wiki sounds really good The one thing that may become an issue is trust. How do we know we can trust a certain thing to be accurate or true. Can we create some kind of a verification system or something? (my knowledge of wiki's is fairly limited)I'm not in a position to add anything to the OP that I have to update regularly. Having a link to the wiki or dev document would be fine though. Polls aren't something I am interested in however. 1,000,000 people can be wrong. TheCore is based on making decisions for the strongest argument, not the most popular one ![]() Thanks again. Great ideas! Now, who's gonna make this shit happen?!

Running the Python script only produces PLL, PLM, and PLS files for alternate layouts, tested by deleting all of the ones that are already there and running the script anew. Jak, this has been my experience since first reading about TheCore about a year ago. 1: Get used to a new and totally different hotkey layout 2: See updated layout, force myself (ugh) to use it 3: See video, force myself to learn control group layout 4: See some thread, FORCE myself to stop using All Army Unit-key (really tough) 5: See another thread, stop using the select-all-warpgates-key 6: See another video, force myself to learn spawn-larvae (why? q_q I play protoss) 7: See another updated layout, force myself to get used to it also. And now I see this. What the h***? Now I have to yet again re-organize and re-learn my entire controlgroup setup, and after that start practicing camera locations. I don't know why I do it. I could've kept using the old TheCore layout and be fine with that, I could've kept using the all army unit key, I could've kept myself from the strain and confusion all this re-arrangement is causing my brain. But I did it every time, and I'm gonna keep doing it again, and again, and again... You have gained a dedicated fan, sir. I hope you are proud. /Moss

V1.0 Im using TRL nordic (but playing zerg if that matters) I cannot create control group 7. (ctrl+shift+0) (zero) i can add to ctrl grp 7, but just not create it. all other groups work fine. been using core for 6 months now (loving it) and havnt noticed this issue before, since i just recently started using multiple ctrl grps Could this be issue with starcraft , keyboard or the nordic layout? Keyboard is Corsair K70 EDIT: Further testing shows adding alternate ctrl+shift+1 can create ctrl grp 7, and i can recall the grp pressing 0 so somehow the issue is with the key 0 (zero) in combination with ctrl+shift. The keyboard is new, testing both left/and right ctrl+shift with both 0 and the newly added ctrl+shift+1 , all keys working. just not the combination ctrl+shift+0. This seriously makes baby pandas cry!!! Peace /Trez

2. My Ctrl+Shift+0 doesn't work / I can’t create my Control Group. How do I fix this? - Hide Spoiler - This is a windows problem, not a SC2 problem. Look here for the way to fix it: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/967893 and I have Windows 8 - Hide Spoiler - 1. Go to Control Panel 2. Click Clock, Language, and Region Options (make sure to change the view to "category" or you will not see it.) 3. Click Change input methods 4. In the left side click Advanced settings 5. Click Change language bar hot keys (blue link), and select Between input languages. 6. Click Change Key Sequence. 7. For Switch Keyboard Layout, select Not Assigned. 8. Click OK to close each dialog box.

I'm itching to replay the campaign this weekend (and start learning the Core) -- what needs to be done for it to work for single player? Can I start working on it myself?
