Sure, but is that enough on every map? From monk's guide:
Extra rax:Get ready for a dedicated stim push. Depending on the timing of the push, you will need either 1 or 2 cannons. Again, you might have 1-1 finished, but without cannons, 4-5 rax of bio will still totally roll you over.
That is about 350 gas invested into things that aren't army and won't help you in a fight (double ups, twilight council).
On the other hand, if you go fast colossus and he hits before thermal lance is done when you have one colossus tops (or even before), you have 400-600 gas invested in things that won't help you much (1 colossus with no range out, thermal lance, one queued up colossus), so your army will be even smaller.
Day9 also did a daily about punishing fast colossus with a stim timing a while ago for what it's worth.
I'm not saying you are wrong, i genuinely do not know wether 1) fast colossus or any greedy ish tech build (including double forge) is in danger vs a 4-5 rax stim timing, and if the answer to that is yes 2) what does such a timing accomplish then?

Totally depends on the map, sure.
I'd go fast colossus on Antiga X pos, or TDA. Getting fast colossus allows you to pressure heavily until sufficient medivacs are out. And if they make vikings instead, they just lose.

I'm having trouble with the earlier versions of the 1/1/1 in PvT on a map like Antiga. Terran knocks at *my* natural around 8:30 - 9:00 with siege tanks, tons of marines and half of his scvs. It's damn early
At this time, my expo hasn't paid off yet ( 1 gate FE ), I'm adding more gates besides the initial 3, but they aren't finished yet; I only have 1 immortal since I had to produce 2 obs in case of banshees.
Terran doesn't necessarily push into my natural: he simply sieges at the border of my main and snippes my buildings with vision from a medivac or banshee. If I engage I'm dead due to the scvs wall protecting his units, if I try to snippe the air unit giving vision, my stalkers die to tank splash; he'll build tons of bunkers and slowly advance into my natural, while expoing behind it so even if I survive, I'm behind.. that or if it's the medivac version, he'll lift his marines into my main, protected by the range of the sieged tanks..
Most threads about 1/1/1 advocate engaging Terran's army halfway on the map, in open space, but that'd mean attacking around 8:00. I have few units at that time ( like 4-5 zealots 4-5 stalkers and a sentry ), and if I move out and he has banshees I risk losing all my probes.
Any advice ? Can somebody post a replay of holding a 1/1/1 at this timing with a 1-gate FE build ?

Sounds to me like you're messing up your build. Sounds like you're making way too many probes against a Terran that is 1 basing you.

Anyway, my questions since i dont want to spam the thread: Regarding the decision to go colossus vs chargelot/archon, i would do this off the top of my head (assuming 2base vs 2base): 1) If we go mirror builds (robo blink), depends on the map. Easy third ----> colossus, harder third ----> chargelot/archon. 2) If he opens colossus expand, go chargelot/archon since i wont catch up to his colossus count. 3) If he opens immortal expand, depends on the map. 4) If he opens stargate, go chargelot/archon. Does this make any sense? Also, if you open robo blink, what is the best reaction to someone going phoenix into immortal? Do i want to expand (ill take my nat since he has phoenixes)? Tech to charge? Get fast archons? I guess i cant allin him if he expands himself, since he should have a lot of immortals and i am heavy on blink stalkers; base trading also doesn't sound too good because he could easily scout hidden bases with phoenixes.
Yeah man I just got a PM from him saying "STOP IT! ;_______;" (This statement may be more or less accurate depending how perceive the facts)
As for expanding against phoenix immortal that's a bit risky if he decides to attack. You can expand either if a) he expands b) you get 1 cannon or 2 up at a map like antiga c) a more safe expand with more units. This is from my own experience though so I'm not sure if they are perfect reactions. As for unit composition I like to get charge zealots, for the immortals and archons, for the phoenixes. But archons take a while to get up and if he makes more phoenixes they will easily kill your zealots. I feel like it's very situational exactly what units you make, stargate play is not even close to a science yet :<
I think base trading is ok, blink stalkers are so good in that situation. The problem is you won't be able to take map control against phoenixes since they can lift like 5 stalkers at once and if you dont take them out fast enough the immortals will soon reach you and eat them all for breakfast.
I hope this helps you a bit on the way :p

I would like to add something for blink stalkers vs phoenix/immortals. what I do is when i scout phoenix I get blink ( which already have) then throw down a forge for plus 1 attack and cannon but I would personally suggest get the plus 1 attack as priority. Due to the fact more cannon mean less units/gates allowing the other person to hurt you more and upgrades are good in any situation where you getting harassed a lot (example muta/ling). Also get charge for zealot to deal with any immortals. Then you can expand while throwing a HT achieve (archons) , to use that gas burst you'll be getting before the mineral burst. Use the mineral burst for zealots and that should hold him off ideally, of course. In a game this informantion might not be useful depending on what he's done but this is pretty safe, the down side would be you'll behind by a bit. The upside would be your still alive. able to put pressure on him and you should with a zealot/achon/stalker army.
Hopefully that helps even a little bit.

I don't know about other players, but I would prefer Voidray Immortal Chargelot Archon. You don't need many Archons, just a few, but you need a lot of Voidrays/Immortals with emphasis on the Voidrays. The more Voidrays you have the more Stalkers he needs, the more Stalkers he gets the worse of a position he'll be in against a ball of Voidrays with Immortal support.
You can also go for Colossus/Voidray yourself.

^Add a mothership to that. Profit.
PS: Archon toilet the rays or just vortex the colossii. One of your composition will kill the remainder.

Quick Questions for PvX (mostly PvT) while expanding to your natural:
1) When do I want to build my additional production structures; non-forced openings include 3 gate FE for zerg; 1 gate robo for protoss and 1 gate FE for terran? (Many times I will default to 3 gate for PvX) Every one leads into a 6 gate, robo and double forge build. (Forgive the macro, I'm pretty sure this shouldn't be supportable by 2 base with optimal macro)
The majority of the time I get my additional gateways when I have everything warped or building and I have the minerals for it. I'm told this is way too late. Should I be building my additional structures while the 2nd nexus is still building? as soon as it finishes? or was I initially given wrong advice? The extra gateways and/or robo usually go down about 2 mins after the 2nd nexus finishes, as that's roughly the point where I can 'feel' the 2nd base's effect.
2) Do I still want to be warping units in while establishing the next base?
I find a lot of times I don't build any units, or 1 unit per round of warp-ins, as I'm constantly chrono-boosting probes out of both nexus (I transfer probes evenly); the chrono-boost as well as keeping up with supply keeps minerals low for a substantial period of time (about 2 - 3 minute of game time). Should I stop chrono-boosting and/or cut probe production slightly to get rounds of warp-ins completed? What would be the safe decision if scouting is 'denied' (detectors at bases, army blocking probe scouts, my inability to scout well)? Does the zerg style of 'droning hard, units when needed' apply well for protoss?
3) Is teching a viable option while expanding? When should I claim my next assimilators?
When I expand, I tend to claim the assimilators as soon as I take my 2nd, regardless of if I need the gas or not. This usually results in banking gas while I'm chronoing probes, which does get spent once I progress back into unit production. Should I be claiming these gases and banking, or should I leave the probes on minerals for that much faster mineral growth?
Every build order that I use eventually requires at least 1 forge, a twilight council, and a robotics bay. Should I be building / teching from these structures to keep gas low while expanding? If no, when is it considered a good time to research? I know it takes 9 minutes, 30 seconds total (before chronoing) to get to +3 consecutively; do I want this to finish as I max? before? after?
Sorry, loaded post. If a replay could help make this more specific, I've posted most of my replays on here: Game Replays. If this link doesn't work, alternatively search 'Rasera' on www.gamereplays.org/ ; The higher numbered replays tend to be my better games, and one called "Helping a Friend learn SC2" is a decent example of my macro play.
Thanks for the help in advance, Rasera

What is a good followup to one gate FE vs terran? I've been doing the "same" thing that hero has done, but always just die to bio pushes.
I'm now low diamond, and I was getting stomped doing the same bio pushes vs high diamond so lol.

What is the correct amount of bases/probes going into the mid/lategame? Is 4 bases the best income? I tend to just stay on 3 bases until my main is almost mined out then grab a 4th, also whats the preferred way of transferring probes? I usually keep making probes so that when my new nexus is up i grab 5-10 from each base and transfer them. I'm mid platinum.

I go double Forge really often, and was considering writing a shortish guide on how I've been playing lately. I may make it in the future if I see someone hasn't already covered something really similar.

Be sure to also have 3-4 production facilities per base, and once maxed you want a whole lot more production facilities per base.

I go double Forge really often, and was considering writing a shortish guide on how I've been playing lately. I may make it in the future if I see someone hasn't already covered something really similar. I tend to just stay on 3 bases until my main is almost mined out then grab a 4th, also whats the preferred way of transferring probes? I usually keep making probes so that when my new nexus is up i grab 5-10 from each base and transfer them. I'm mid platinum. You want as many bases as you can get without dieing. Usually 2-3 into the mid-game. I always strive for 18 mining minerals, 3 per vespene geyser. Be sure to also have 3-4 production facilities per base, and once maxed you want a whole lot more production facilities per base. Yea, try out the phoenix vs voidray thing in a unit tester. Also, I already wrote that guide.
