I don't want to clutter the forum with my plat noobiness but I got the "spend your money" part down and am looking for a bit more in-depth advice... If you know what your problem is, chances are you can search and find advice on how to fix it. If you are absolutely clueless on how you lost a game, make a new thread, MAKE SURE to include a replay or two and ask nicely for help. As long as you don't have glaring macro mistakes (ex: floating 1k + mineral earlier than 10-15 minutes, or forgetting workers often, there are plenty of people willing to help you ![]()

When watching top players hotkeys on streams, they never seem to bind more than 3 queens for injecting. I've always taken for granted that you should have 1 queen per hatch, even in late game when you might have 6-7 hatcheries. Is that unnecessary? Are 3 inject queens always enough?

More larvae doesn't hurt you does it? Even top players are far away from perfect marco. Obviously 5 hatches with 5 queens injecting are better than 5 hatches with 3 queens injecting, it's just the matter of mechanics. And in late game those few supply won't hurt you since you can get over 200 as zerg.

As a protoss player I more often have trouble when the zerg focuses down my ground to air, as long as the stalkers and archons die, the broods will clean up, the broodlings just have the added benefit of confusing the collossus so that you can attack him with more ground units.

Well, it does hurt if it means spending more time on injects, more time/minerals making sure all hatcheries have a queen, and taking up more hotkeys (if I'm using the one queen per hotkey method). All to get larva I potentially won't need. If I could just worry about 3 inject queens it would simplify things a lot. But I would like to know if that's enough.

What? Injecting 5 hatches instead of 3 will always take more time, no matter how skilled you are. Not building 2 extra queens will always save you 300 minerals, no matter how skilled you are. Extra hotkeys will definitely not spawn on your keyboard, no matter how skilled you are. If anything, if your skilled enough to hit your injects perfectly on as few queens as possible, it should be the most efficient way.

I just bought the game and I'm excited to play. Protoss is the race, and I'm wondering what hotkey setup is good. I've heard of Grid, is there a comprehensive guide to that? I searched but could not find. Thanks for any help!

I've heard of Grid, is there a comprehensive guide to that? I searched but could not find. Thanks for any help! You mean how to set up grid? There is a setting in the hotkey menu, it's one of the pre-sets that comes with the game. As for how to use grid, this hotkey setup "grids" the buttons on the command board with where your keyboard hand should be. For example, the top left button on the command board, under a grid setting, will be hotkey'd as Q, because that is the top left key in the standard key range. So, you'll only have to use the keys in a 3X5 grid on your keyboard, Q through T, A through G, Z though B. It is easiest to learn this set up and I'd recommend it to anyone new to RTS games. I don't use it because I played BW, where you couldn't change hotkeys, so the standard hotkey setup just feels natural.

If anything, if your skilled enough to hit your injects perfectly on as few queens as possible, it should be the most efficient way. Practically speaking, queens 4 and 5 give you far better re-max capabilities than 3 queens. Consider that a remax is roughly 125 supply (account for 75 drones). You can remax off of 3 injected hatches assuming you produce roaches with max larva and 6 non-injected hatches (3 * 19 + 3 * 6 = 75 larva). Or you can remax off of 4 injected hatches instead (4 * 19 = 76 larva). Usually your hatches won't hit max larva though, in which case having more queens means you need less hatches to be able to remax.

Random T: "Shut the f*** up" 25 mins later. "F****** imba, Imba RACE and F*** you" Why are people still convinced that Toss is imbalanced? Are ppl just stuck in 2010? God I am getting tired of defending my race and I somehow am having a hard time not responding to these tiny lonely girls saying stuff like this. What do you guys do when facing this stuff? I understand what makes protoss hard to play against... I also understand what makes Z and T hard to play against... All races have their advantages and disadvantages... The outcome is determined by how you use your own advantages and negate their advantages. And macro and micro and stuff. But still. Why are people crying in stead of trying to get better. Pisses me off. Sry

I had it right to my ramp, no funny angles or anything and some zealots still came out on the wrong side. If there were zerglings attacking your gateways/pylon, then the zealots came out on the wrong side because there wasn't any room on the outside. A tip for dealing with 6/7 pools, wall with 1 gate and 1 forge so you can build cannons behind the wall
