Gobbledygook (Aurora, the Sleeping Beauty (Vanilla Town)) was lynched!

Night 1 - In which a beauty was returned to unending slumber.

Meatpudding (Belle, the Beautiful Bookworm (Vanilla Town)) was killed!

Day 2 - In which a rose's thorns are felt sharply.

MihZaaa (Eilowny, the Heroic and Slender-Necked (Vanilla Town)) was lynched!

Night 2 - In which the princess' plan for a dance goes awry.

Breshke (Mulan, the Brave and Beautiful (Vanilla Town)) was killed!

Introduction / What is Mafia?:

Mafia is an educated guessing game of epic proportions. The objective of the game is to lynch or kill all mafia members before they outnumber the rest of the town. It's much like a game of poker because mafia members are also part of the town during the day and may manipulate the vote to their liking. If the mafia at any time outnumber or equal the townspeople, they win. The town's goal is to lynch all the members of the mafia.

The game takes time to play, and it takes even more time to play it well. Please do not join this game unless you are willing to spend the time to read and respond – the game is much better when people are involved!

Rules:

Cheating:
Cheating includes (but is not limited to):
1. Posting any substance after death. You may post something like "gg" or "good luck team!" or

after death. DO NOT include any information on the game. DO NOT clarify your positions, or encourage players to vote or not vote for any other player. When you are dead, you stop playing.
2. Ruining the game. For instance, as mafia you may not reveal the identity of any other members of your team.
3. Logging on to someone else's account to get their role, or looking over someone's shoulder to determine their role.
4. Comparing any PM times (providing your role or coach).
5. Posting screenshots of your inbox, your out of game chat/QT, or any PMs received.
6. Getting yourself modkilled to help your team. Your non-majority-decided death may not be used as a bargaining chip or strategic move.
7. Signing up more than once using smurf accounts.
8. Betting or exchanging items outside of the game in exchange for in-game benefits.
9. Sharing accounts with other players. This game does not permit hydras.
10. Posting or sharing any PM you receive from a host.
11. Quoting your role PM from a host, or posting a false role PM phrased as if you received it from the host. You can state your role and fake roleclaim, but you cannot make it look like you are posting a PM you received from the host.
12. Communicating with other players in the game about the game via PM, unless permitted by your role.
13. Editing your posts. See discussion below.
Cheating is not tolerated. If there is some extenuating circumstance, or if you are not sure whether something is cheating, message the host & cohost and we will gladly discuss the issue with you. If you take a questionable action without consulting us first, you do so at your peril.

I would prefer you PM questions rather than posting them in the thread (the question will be noticed faster), but either is permitted.

Activity & Replacements:
You must post in this thread once per day/night cycle and vote every day while you are alive. If you fail to do so, the hosts will use their discretion in determining whether to warn, modkill, or replace you. Generally, I will seek replace inactive players during the first two days/nights. I will use my discretion as far as punishment for inactivity.
This game uses replacements. Generally, replacements will be made in the game through night 2, as available. If a player is modkilled during the designated time, the hosts will usually seek replacement by a player on the replacement list or by asking in the forums. If no replacement is available, the player slot will be killed without a replacement. If you need to replace out of the game, do not post about it in the thread. Contact a host.

Spam:
Do not spam the thread. I understand players may post rapidly when speaking to each other, but remember that the thread is to play mafia. A quick post or two about other games or your weekend plans is fine with me, but posting a lot of unrelated images or blog-type posts are not appropriate.

Smurfs & Hydras:
This is a newbie game and smurfs/hydras are not permitted. If you think an exception should be made, PM me.

Clues:
This game will not use clues - I intend to use flavor for the day and night posts, but only for silly or goofy purposes and not to hint who is what role. For what it's worth, I have planned out some day/night ideas in advance so it is unlikely to reflect night actions

Encryption:
Do not encrypt your posts by using some sort of code. Generally, hinting at your role or having a secret message (with the first letter of each sentence, for instance) is fine, whereas messages with a “key” or unlock system will not be permitted. If you are unsure what encryption includes, please PM a host and they will clarify for you.

Editing:
Editing is not allowed for any reason. Typically, the first edit will result in a warning. After that, editing usually mean you will be modkilled. If you make a mistake in formatting, simply make a second post correcting any errors in formatting or what you wrote.
Players commonly write EBWOP (edit by way of post) like:
EBWOP: I wrote that GMarshal is my top town, but I meant to write that Amiko is my top town.

Inappropriate posts:
If you want to post something insulting or inappropriate and know the TL mods would have a problem with, don’t post it here. If you do, a host will warn you or modkill you and request that you be banned from future games. Hosts have the final say on what is inappropriate. If you do not like how someone is talking to you, please PM the host, a co-host, or GMarshal before involving the other TL staff. If you are unsatisfied with how the situation is resolved, then you can discuss the situation with other members of the TL staff. Mafia is an emotional game, but it is a game. You can attack other players’ arguments without attacking them.

Reporting posts:
The report button is used on regular TL, but is not well suited for this forum - we usually deal with things in-house when possible. If you have a problem with how someone is posting, talk to the host, co-host, or GMarshal before using your report button. Please do not use your report button for anything other than inappropriate posts which you feel are not being dealt with adequately.

Play to win.
This means you play your best to help your team win while you are alive and in the game. However, this does not mean that you should try to win by being a jerk to the other players so they all want to quit playing.
This also means that you cannot leave the game without a good reason without getting banned. These situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis.
If you need to leave the game, do not post about it in the thread. PM the hosts and we will discuss things.

Out of thread communication:

It is common for mafia (and town circles if PMs are allowed) to use a medium outside of TL such as QuickTopics or IRC to communicate during the game. Please be mindful that other players may be more tech savvy than you and they may attempt impersonate members of your team or attempt to infiltrate your chat. Do not share the links for these communications until the game ends. You use these media at your own risk.

Observers
If you would like to observe this game, please PM me for access to the observer QuickTopic. If you receive access to the observer QuickTopic, do not discuss this game with the players until this game is over.

Other Games
Do not discuss other games that you are playing or observing in the thread.

Town Seals
Do not post "town seals" or similar posts (basically, a meta-game sort of promise that you are town). If you are confused about this, PM the hosts.

Coaching
Each town player will be provided with one or more coaches. The mafia team (as a whole) will be provided with one or more coaches. The initial role PM will include a link to a QuickTopic where you may speak with your coach.
DO NOT discuss coaching in the thread. Do not say you are being coached. Do not say who is coaching you. Do not quote your coach.
If your coach is not responding or if there are any personal issues with you and your coach, please PM the hosts.

Voting rules:

Voting is done in this thread. Please vote in the following format:

- I will usually accept and count votes even if there are slight errors in formatting. However, you should ensure that you always at least bold your votes and do not put them inside spoiler or quote tags.
- Conditional votes will not be counted. Votes for yourself will not be counted. Votes for anyone dead or outside the game will not be counted.
Voting is mandatory. You may (NOT) abstain. If you fail to vote, you will be warned/modkilled.
You may vote for a no-lynch (##Vote: No Lynch)
This game uses a plurality lynch. A player become a new lynch target when the player has more votes than anyone else. So, if two players have the same number of votes, the player who reached the amount of votes first will be lynched first.

Signups:

This game is open to new players with three or fewer games played. If this will be your fourth game, you can play! If you have played too many, you may request to be added to the /replace list, but tell the hosts in your post that you have played too many games. Priority will always be given to newer players instead of you.

This game follows the TL Mafia Ban List. If you are modkilled, you will be punished beyond being eliminated from this game. Please refer to the ban list thread for questions about your punishment.

Sitting Out:
To sit out this game, you must do these two things during the signups of this game (assuming you are not currently sitting out a different game and the game in which you were banned has finished):
1. PM the host of this game, saying you are sitting out this game.
2. If the host approves you sitting out the game, post in the TL Mafia Ban List, saying that you are sitting out this game.

PMs
PMs are not allowed in this game.

Time Cycle:
This game will follow a 48 hour day / 24 hour night day cycle. Any votes after the 48 hour mark will not count and the game will be put on halt until the night post is up. The deadline will be at 03:00 GMT (+00:00) (this should show your local time). Actions/votes will be accepted up to the posted time, but not after.

GAME SETUP

This is a semi-open game. The potential setups will be known to players, however, the setup being used will not be revealed.

Roles for this 10 player game will be selected through a modified use of the Matrix6 setup with one additional VT- you can see the process here:

In sum, the setups will be RNG'd among the following:
(A) Mafia Roleblocker, Mafia Goon, Town Jailkeeper, 1-Shot Bulletproof Town, 6x Vanilla Town
(B) 2x Mafia Goon, Town Cop, 7x Vanilla Town
(C) 2x Mafia Goon, Town Doctor, Town Tracker, 6x Vanilla Town

Mafia KP is always 1. Mafia may not no-kill, but may self-target their KP.
Mafia roleblocker may roleblock and night-kill in the same night.
Mafia roleblocker's action resolves before a Jailer's action.

ROLE INFORMATION

Town-aligned players obtain a happy ending (win) when no wickedness (mafia) remain alive, and at least one town-aligned player is alive.

Mafia-aligned players win if the wicked players outnumber the town-sided players, or nothing can prevent that from happening.
Mafia must select a player each night to deliver the kill; this may be roleblocked.

Failure to submit actions-
If the mafia do not submit who is delivering the kill, I will RNG who is delivering the kill.
If the mafia do not submit a kill, I will RNG the target among the town players.
If a mafia power role does not submit a night action, no action will be taken.
If a town power role does not submit his/her night action, no action will be taken.

This game is about cute Disney movies. Disney Princesses will be at the core of the game, but other movies/characters in similar veins can be included in the game as well (other Disney movies, Pixar movies, etc.).

Disney Princess / Character (Vanilla Town)

You are royal of lineage or character, a paragon of things that are good. As a princess, you represent the powers of love, beauty, style, grace, and all things good. You have faced wicked things before and prevailed through your determination, wits, and close allies.
- Vanilla Town have no special powers or night actions. Their weapon is their vote.
- Vanilla Town will be given a character name. These names may not always be Disney Princesses (i.e., they may be supporting characters or princess-like characters).

Doc / Genie (Doctor)

With years of study or through your magical powers, you have the power to protect others by saving lives. You have allied yourself closely with a Disney Princess / Character and seek to help them protect the land from the wicked. Although some consider you a supporting role, there is no doubt that the happy ending will depend on your help!

- Each night phase, you may protect one player in the game from one nightkill. You may not protect yourself. You may target the same player on consecutive nights.
- Neither you nor your target will be informed of any protection or save.
- Doctors will be given a character name - this may be something other than Doc / Genie and may be a princess name.

Hen Wen / Abu (Cop / Tracker)

Abu: Although you are a monkey, your cleverness and devotion to your friends has always made you a close ally to good. Now, your small size and curious nature may be the among the strongest weapons at their disposal. You can sneak amid the innumerable alleys of Agrabah to collect information, perhaps stealing a few shiny objects or delicious treats along the way.
Hen Wen: You are a magical white pig with the unusual power to see into the future. Although it will be difficult for other players to decipher your oracular oinks, you are sure your foresight will be invaluable to determine who has wicked plans.

- A cop may target a player at night and determine whether the player is town-aligned or mafia-aligned.
- A tracker targets a player at night and sees who that player targeted that night. A roleblocked player will not visit.
- A tracker will not learn what actions the visiting player performed.

Sebastian (Jailkeeper)

"Human life is a mess" - You know that well. With King Triton's permission, you have given up on music and joined as a bodyguard course served by elite eels. With your powerful claws, you can hold someone in place over a night, ensuring they are protected but also immobile. Will you use your crabjutsu to protect the good or hold back the wicked?

- Jailkeepers may target one player at night. They may not self-target. The targeted player will be roleblocked and protected from being killed that night.
- Players will be informed they were roleblocked regardless of whether or not they have a role. This notification will be the same, regardless of whether the player is roleblocked by a roleblocker or jailed by a jailor.
- A mafia player's roleblock resolves before a jailkeeper's roleblock, so mafia may roleblock the jailkeeper.
- The mafia's kill resolves after the jailkeeper's roleblock would resolve, so a jailkeeper may be able to roleblock a mafia player delivering a kill.

Prince Phillip / Pumbaa (One-Shot Bulletproof)

You have the bravery and strength enough to face the wicked and try to thwart their plans. Using your skill with a blade (or... well, your scent) you are tougher than most and can defend yourself from an attack by the wicked. With you around, the forces of good should have no worries - Hakuna Matata!

- A one-shot bulletproof player will survive the first time he/she is shot at night. The player will still die immediately if lynched, or if the player is successfully shot again.
- Players will be notified if their bulletproof protection is consumed.
- Players do not 'activate' the protection - it will automatically protect the player. The protection cannot be roleblocked.

Gaston / Other Villain (Goon)

No one thrills like Gaston / or night kills like Gaston!
As Gaston, you are considered a hero by many in his village, a man of passion and strength. The combination of your large muscles (paired with your relatively small mind) makes has made you to influence and turn to the purposes of the wicked.

- Mafia Goons have no special powers.
- Mafia players will be provided with a QT to speak with each other.

Ursula / Horned King (Roleblocker)

As Ursula, you can wield your powers to thwart actions of the good - your fearsome tentacle legs can restrict someone each night as your magic steals their voice, rendering that player temporarily unable to take actions. Your wicked laugh and plotting ways will be of great help to the wicked.
As the Horned King, your skeletal, rotting flesh is terrifying to the forces of good. You may visit players at night and drive them into a fit of terror, preventing them from taking action.[/i]

- Operates the same as town roleblockers, above. However, any/all mafia roleblockers will be unlimited shot roleblockers.
- Mafia players will be provided with a QT to speak with each other.

A NOTE ON NAMING

The role list above includes all potential roles that can appear in the game.
It does not include all potential character names players may receive.

Mafia/Town Power roles may request one fake claim by PMing the hosts with the role you wish to fake claim. The PM should inform us what role you want to fake claim (for instance, VT / doctor / 1-shot doctor / etc).

The character names are for fun. They are not for strategy, and I will assign characters to players in a way that undermines attempts to use names for strategy.

For instance, a player might be given the character "Flounder" (from The Little Mermaid) with a cop / doctor / etc. role even though Flounder does not appear as a named character above. Similarly, a player might receive a princess character name like "Snow White" and be given a power role like cop / doctor / etc.
Some princesses may be purposefully omitted from the game to provide mafia with fake claims. So for example, I might leave "Cinderella" out of the game so that mafia can fake claim Cinderella without being cc'd.
