How are other, international basketball teams, compared to Team USA?

I don't follow international basketball very much, but I just really don't want to watch Team USA just tearing apart everyone in runaway games. Do I make the skill gap between NBA players vs. the world too high??

Unfortunately, the skill gap is still very large. Teams like France, Argentina, Brazil, Lithuania and especially Spain have a great chance to get medals, but if Team USA plays up to their potential for the whole competition, it will not be close. I would expect a margin of victory in the 20-30s if you average the whole tournament.

That said, the games are usually still relatively entertaining and provide a different kind of basketball compared to that of NBA.

Yea none of their games should be close. Even with them not having a very stacked roster. Still enjoyable to watch, at times reminds me of watching the Harlem Globetrotters.

The skill gap is large enough that the US team is still the heavy favorite in every game but small enough that good coaching and Team USA's communication problems can keep the score close. By communication problems, I mean that Team USA still hasn't played enough with each other. There are times when multiple players chase the same rebound, pick up the same guy in transition, go one way when a teammate thought they were cutting the other way, etc.

I keep hearing about European basketball being more fundamentally sound and less of the bs highlight grabbing of the NBA. Looking forward to it.

The US womens team is absolutly unrivaled in their depth. However I really think that this year its going to be the chance for the spain mens team to take the gold. They have the start power they've lacked in recent Olympics and they still have the great teamwork they've always had. I'm picking brazil to win bronze.

But I'd say watch out for the chineses. There isn't a team out there that is more motivated then them. That being said none of the real threats are in usas group. Expect 50+ slaughters. Should be a ton of fun to watch.

Should be a double gold for USA, as usual. The women's team is ridiculously dominant, probably 90% chance of winning gold. The men's team is also the prohibitive favorite but their unfamiliarity with the international game and the lack of depth at center means an upset could happen. I'd put their chances of gold at 75%.

China won't get top 5, maybe their women will, but certainly not their men.

lol if there ever were an Olympic sport where people could just say USA NUMBAH ONE and pretty much be right, it's basketball :D I think.

I think China will do pretty well actually. The men's team is definitely very motivated and they have shown some pretty good play.

not really accurate.
it only looks that way because thats what they mostly rely on because they don't have the athleticism NBA has and they can't even make 90% of the highlights made in the NBA lol

Yeah, pretty much.

Also the NBA being so much better than everybody else doesn't mean they don't have any fundamentals -___- those guys practice really damn hard to get where they are...just being able to make crazy highlight reel shots and dunks doesn't make their play "bs highlight grabbing"...

The whole NBA not having proper fundamentals was erroneously placed on the NBA players when they went through that like 10 year stretch of not give a flying fuck at all in FIBA competition. Once they put in coach K and decided to actually try to win it's kind of went as everyone originally expected it to.

There are a ton of international players that play in the NBA. America actualy didn't want NBA players playing in the olympics and wanted only college players. But the euros wanted their own players to be able to play in the nba get better and then play in the olympics. The reason why "the dream team" started up is beacuse of one year when we got hard shafted by the soviets and then said that we will never lose again.

Looking forward already to the hardly evitable Spain vs USA, our on the paint game this olympics can rival that of USA very well with Gasol brothers and Ibaka, if Navarro and Rudy are on their game things should be very nice. And also loving the fact this year we have Calderon not injured.

And hope for a true fiba rulesheet refereeing without silly refereeing helps to the USA team as always
