I'd like to see some stats, but I'm pretty sure the paint is where most teams have been attacking the US right now. Otherwise their perimeter defense is one of the best I've seen.

Plus the amount of respect these players have for each other is quite high, as a basketball player myself i'd say the only time where i would ball hog is when my team is full of derps, i would always share the ball with a better player/equal, this team don't seem to have any derps.

The biggest question raised by this game... is Spain going to continue using the zone so much? They seemed to do so much better in man to man. I don't know why everyone thinks the zone is great against team USA. I guess it makes intuitive sense but everytime they lost it was against a man to man. If Spain stops with the cheesy "I bet you'll miss" zone, they get Marc back and they make their free throws they'll have a chance, or at least it should be a lot closer.

Kobe, James, Durant, Westbrook, etc, basically keep teams from playing man against them, because the US would be plenty happy to run James a top of the key iso play 40 times in a row, because they know noone on the opposing team can stay with him consistently. Hence, someone has to help him on defense. When someone helps, then someone else is open. So, yes, both Denver and Sane Antonio have multiple players who they would be content to run in an iso play 1 v 1 20 times in a row vs most teams if they let them. Creating your own play means that when an offensive play breaks down with 6 seconds on the shot-clock, you still have a good chance of a high percentage shot getting off. Yes, screens, ball movement, that is all good, we call that "offense". But when an offensive set breaks down or shows an unexpected opening, players that can create their own shot will make you pay almost every time. I think both of those teams would rather run their sets and get open shots, but anyway it's really off topic. I was just reacting to the idea that getting a player who can create his own shots is an essential part of a team, which I believe is completely wrong.

Not all sets will yield open shots, especially if your shooters are set/spot shooters who, when pressured off their spots, can't create good looks. Or if the other team is more physical, etc. Is it essential, no. Is it an advantage, tremendously so in some cases.

I'm watching the online live stream of the German tv station that prodcasts the olympics, but I guess you have to be in Germany to be able to watch it. Not 100% sure though. http://olympia.ard.de/apps/java/london2012/liveplayer/index.html

It's kind of refreshing to see non(less)biased referees working a game with NBA stars. I'm watching too. Just tuned in at the very end of the 1st quarter. Was watching Judo and forgot USA vs France had started heh.
