Since it's being played in Barcelona Spain is definitely going to go all out for the home fans. If it wasn't both sides probably wouldn't have wanted to show much since they know they will meet for the Gold.

US is still the favorite by a fair margin but there will be competitive moments for sure. Spain has size but lacks guys that can create their own shot and will suffer significantly against our perimeter defense. There will be some good ball played but the US is the clear favorite. I never understood why "creating your own shot" is such an important skill but anyway a lot of their players can actually do that ^^. And they have some great pick and roll players, shooters and low post threats. Their offense is pretty good. I think the most underrated aspect of their team is how athletic their perimeter guys are. They're not tall but they are explosive. Some of these guys aren't well known in the US (Sada, Llull) but they are good. Then you have Navarro who can be unstoppable if he's in a good day. I don't know, I think Spain is looking pretty good. For some reason I thought Marc wasn't going to play but now that I know he will I'm going to change my prediction and say Spain wins this. I guess we'll have a first answer in a few hours!

A team with only low post threats and stationary shooters will be easy to defend as you can just shut out the passing lanes and seriously hamper their offense.

Does "creating your own shot" even mean anything then. Because you seem to contrast that and low post play, which to me is the perfect example of creating your own shot. Anyway at this level it's all about using screens and good ball movement. San Antonio and Denver were the 2 best offensive teams last season, would you say they have a lot of players who are good at creating their own shots?

Parker and Ginobili are very good at creating their own shots. As for low post play, it depends. Traditional big guys need to be fed. If they're not in a good position, they need to pass out and repost. The more mobile bigs have an advantage that they can dribble out and repost themselves. The reason "creating your own shot" is important is that these guys usually start the effective ball movement. If a player can score efficiently out of isolation, it forces the other team to double that player. That is what causes the other team to scramble their defense and leads to open shots.

When USA was down by 9 at the start of the second quarter they put on the full start lineup while spain held the second unit on the court. There has been a lot of trying and testing, andSpain isnt playing Marc also. This is not a final ![]() And the referees are doing th usual job for fiba basketball, fouls are fouls, and leaving your arm to the side is a foul every time for eery side, just USA teams usually forget about it.

lets hope not for teh sake of a good match lol. I dont really mind a loss to USA in a finals as long as they get to work for it and the game ends close and is enjoyable like last olympics.

San Antonio and Denver were the 2 best offensive teams last season, would you say they have a lot of players who are good at creating their own shots? "Creating your own shot" is a term generally given to a perimeter player who can't be simply guarded one-on-one on an isolation play. Kobe, James, Durant, Westbrook, etc, basically keep teams from playing man against them, because the US would be plenty happy to run James a top of the key iso play 40 times in a row, because they know noone on the opposing team can stay with him consistently. Hence, someone has to help him on defense. When someone helps, then someone else is open. So, yes, both Denver and Sane Antonio have multiple players who they would be content to run in an iso play 1 v 1 20 times in a row vs most teams if they let them. Creating your own play means that when an offensive play breaks down with 6 seconds on the shot-clock, you still have a good chance of a high percentage shot getting off. Yes, screens, ball movement, that is all good, we call that "offense". But when an offensive set breaks down or shows an unexpected opening, players that can create their own shot will make you pay almost every time.
