why not get rageblade + FH instead of nashors + GA? ive built stinger and nashors a couple times a long time ago on jax and it didnt feel weak though

Rageblade is just a shitty item in its current form. Maybe the added passive in S3 will make it better on Jax, but it currently is too expensive for what it gives. Other than giving more AS, the CDR on the Nashor's is what really makes it the better item.

As for FH, I'm not sure why you'd want that on Jax. It is really expensive and provides minimal utility. Iceborn gauntlet may be good because of the slow proc from sheen allowing for non-triforce builds, FH seems like a waste in most circumstances.


EDIT: Speaking of the new rageblade, has anyone tried it on the test server? I'm curious as to what people think about it.

If you were going to get a rageblade on Jax, I think that you'd want to itemize differently. In short, you'd need to be significantly tankier than usual to fully take advantage of the 50% health super steroid. You'd want to aim for something like boots, rageblade, iceborrne gauntlet, spirit visage, gunblade, nashors. You may even want to trade out the gunblade for something that gives even more tankiness. Spirit visage will be a must for the MR, HP, CDR, and bonus to life leach. Your new core would be something kinda odd and different. Perhaps something like boots, rageblade, sheen, spirit visage/kindle gem. Then you would just build out from there.

The main reason you don't want rageblade is because sometimes keeping 8 stacks isn't feasible and jax scales harder off of cdr than AP.

Well, the new rageblade feels pretty strong on Jax (just messed around with it on Dominion). The 50% health steroid is nuts. I think the problem is going to be itemizing around it. It is fairly expensive and leaves some gaps in Jax's game that beelining something like trinity force doesn't. Rageblade + mercs/tabi + SV would probably be the new core for a rageblade build. From there, you'd either build IBG for a slow if you need something defensive (though this is an expensive route) or go bilgewater cutlass + stinger. It may be better to save the rageblade as more of a mid-late game item, grabbing bilgewater cutlass + SV + stinger first. Note that I'm opting for cutlass/gunblade over phage/trinity to maximize the healing bonus from SV.

Also, jungle Jax feels pretty good. One thing that I'd note is that once you get a spirit stone, you can pretty much jungle indefinitely without buffs and focus on building regular items if you aren't inclined to finish the spirit stone line.

I'm not sure if cutlass really is worth it. It's damn expensive for what it does now, even though it's got BotRK to upgrade into. A vamp (or ~2 dblades) would be enough for sustain and then you'd just itemize other defensive stuff until you complete the vamp (even though it basically made lifesteal early price double).
Cant take LMS hipsters serious.

I don't really like the cutlass so much as I like the gunblade. Again, the reason to get it early anyway is to get a reliable slow to replace a phage. Jax can't get by without some kind of slow, whether it is a phage, cutlass, Rylai, or IBG.

So I just played my first ranked game with Jax since the changes. I went 16-4-8 with this build (I was facing kayle): Merc treads-> phage-> rageblade->nashors tooth->frozen mallet->Abyssal Scept-> Hexdrinker(wouldve been upgraded, but game ended)

It was very efficient, and i was very tanky despite not having any spellvamp or lifesteal. Instead of hexdrinker I probably should have gotten gunblade, or maybe gotten gunblade instead of Abyssal, or instead of finishing FM, maybe get Gunblade and just keep phage. I'll try it out next time.

I don't think it's hard to keep 8 stacks on jax. Given that you can get 5 stacks almost INSTANTLY when you engage. Q->Auto->W reset-E-auto

I take your build with a grain of salt because you were playing co op vs AI, you could buy 6 warmogs and wreck face in Co-op vs Ai. I'll try it out in a real game though

no, but it's still amazing on him. The feeling you get from jumping on something in the middle of a wave and AA+active is absurd. Wave just vanishes. To clarify, both tiamat and hydra ONLY splash your standard AD. not sheen, not on hit effects, nuthin. Obv attack damage steroids are splashed, that's all. Hydra's primary difference is that the passive and active splash now benefit from ALL lifesteal you have.

two things people I think miss about the hydra is 1) the active is a 10 second cooldown. 10 seconds. it's basically a 5th normal ability. you can use it every wave.

Second is that active seems to proc spellblade right now, so if you build an iceborne like me, it makes your tower pushing obscene. Lots of ad, clear waves in under a second, proc the iceborne effect constantly.

I like to build vamp scepter>iceborne>hydra>gunblade atm. the two actives synergise really well and you get some sickeningly good AOE teamfight and sustain, though you don't have the 'fuck y'all I'm going in' intiation that a triforce+ga jax can do.

I don't know if I'm sold on this hydra business. The active isn't that good. It's basically equivalent to one extra autoattack every 10 seconds. The passive effect looks nice and hits a surprisingly large area, but I'm not sure that it's really worth the expense when you could just get a gunblade for better sustain and damage at roughly the same cost. Single target damage? Yes, but that's what matters most of the time. I'd save hydra for AD bruisers like Xin or the monkey.

The IBG is awesome on Jax, though. I think it is reason enough to look at non-trinity builds.
