So I decided to blow my IP on Hybrid Pen runes and some other crap. Basically at 0 IP now but I've got all the runes I might want for my primary roles and enough pages for them all, so from here on out I'll be spending IP on champs.

As much as i have issues with Riots balancing can we talk about why the boot changes suck a hairy fat one?

Slot efficiency, wonky 5% cdr they don't know how to deal with, small nerfs to people that used mobility boots to roam (talon?) and whether people might buy swiftness now....etc

E:Actually i can't believe they have nerfed ranged supports again. Anyone that wants to be useful in ranked is grabbing shurelya's and reducing the mana on it, whilst small and likely inconsequential rubs me the wrong way.

Plus i haven't mathed it but will ruby crystal+ward+pots will now be the best opening gold wise for supports? It's greedy and safe, seems pretty good. Unless the make ruby ss hold more charges upgrading it still sucks.

As far as normals are concerned spelltheifs on soraka could be fun as shit providing your q doesn't snipe a minion and take all of your extra damage away. If only they didn't need solo loaners to not buy it.

Does anyone know the core items for Vladimir?

A friend and I were having a discussion about this so feedback would be appreciated!

Ok guys i havent finished reading yet (pg 17 rofl this GD is amazing.) but seriously, how can you argue that the TF particle changes are anything close to balancing him or a buff/nerf. Like holy fuck, pre-change his cards changed colour and you pressed the button. Post change his cards change colour and you press the button. "its more intuitive for new players" - r u fuckin serious. The cards change colour, you press the button on the one you want. how the hell does having a 3 card bracket with the cards moving position for no reason help with this.

Don't know if I'm late to the party, but tried Sej today. Feels REALLY strong with the changes + W bug fix. Had a game where our support Yasuo was feeding on purpose (ended like 2/20/1 or something) and still went 13/7/26.

Also found out that Vel'Koz + Sej is a pretty damn scary ult combo.

So a friend of mine and I were having a diiscussion. Topic being "the most toxic champions". But not like you might think! We were talking about the top 1% champions, that demoralize/piss off the enemy team (and often times your team) from championselect on out, and cause - when played well (not stomping, not underperforming, just doing well) - headset-throwing, keyboard-smashing rage and demoralize to a point where people leave right then and there. Champions that by the mere fact that they are not currently losing cause drama and toxicity in the enemies team. Actual useful ingame performance/job in the team doesn't matter. We are going for the emotional fuck-up, not for the superior team :D

We came up with:

ADC
- Vayne

Support
- Blitzcrank

Mid
- Katarina
(- Kassadin "recently")

Jungle
- Shaco
- Master Yi

Top
-Tryndamere
- Teemo
(- Riven maybe)

Can you think of more? Not just snowbally champs, not just champs where you go "FUCK HES FED" (like Khazix) but only the pinnacle of rage and sadness.
Do not regret. Always forward, never back.

One of my biggest peeves with Riot balancing is their stubbornness in virtually never reverting a nerf.

Sometimes, a nerf is necessary because it's too overbearing for the current meta-game. When the meta changes, and the nerfed champion is unplayed, perhaps it's time to revert the nerf. Instead, Riot chooses to "rework" a champion when simple nerf reversion would be perfectly fine. Not only does it free up resources for the Riot design team (since they don't have to spend tons of time effectively redesigning a champion), but it also ensures that the champion in question stays true to their original playstyle.

Now, granted, some champions simply just have toxic playstyles (like AP Yi or AP Tryn) that should be removed or heavily revamped, but in my opinion, such cases are few and far between.

tbh the Kassadin OP circlejerk, especially on Reddit, is imo way overblown in the context of solo q.

Or champs that never needed the nerf to begin with...like Singed, Volibear, and Lux in S3.

eh. Singed ult did need nerfing. At least the removal of tenacity. He was sleeper OP for a long time. The damage nerfs were imo a bit overboard. As with the base armor and cd nerfs.

Insanity potion OR Fling was maybe justified he was like good for 2 weeks though, which is kinda sad considering the reign of some current toplaners, definitely not both. And, if they thought they were going to be creating Specters at any time, neither.

i main vlad but whenever i pick shyv top instead (which i dont play much) i still feel game is 100x easier to carry and to stay useful

Well maybe you are just good at champs like shyv but are terrible at vlad?Liking something doesn't mean you play it well.

I bet you have won tons of games because the other person has no clue what to do vs vlad.It goes both ways.

not really i cant recall last time i lost lane as vlad i crush rivens, irelias on regular basis i just think its pathetic how during midgame team fights i feel as impactful as 0-2 shyv i beat during laning, go play as vlad in an even game and then try shyv in similar conditions, team fight power isnt even comparable

Well that has to do with when power spikes hit. Gotta wait til you get like 4 items on Vlad before you start outscaling. Shyv just straight up wins from all item timings before that.

tbh i dont think vlad outscales shyv at any point of the game, 6items is close though but she gets there a lot faster because she dominates early-mid game so much harder than you

And 4 item balance is still pretty much irrelevant...even with slower games.

The problem with Riot's balance strategies vs Blizzard's (I am only going to talk about their balance strategy with WC3, which is what I am the most familiar with) is that Blizzard's balance strategy is focused almost entirely on actually balancing the game and the changes they make are always fairly conservative. On the other hand, Riot's balance strategy is business oriented.

For example, Blizzard did not really care too much about certain starting heroes being dominate. AM as starting hero is the dominate Human strategy and Blizzard was mostly OK with that - for a long time they kept AM as-in and inserted very minor buffs to Paladin and BM. They feel that a hard nerf onto AM will greatly disturb the balance of the game as a whole and they weren't willing to risk (and extra work) doing that just to introduce variety.

Riot's balance is more of a business strategy. If Riot was to balance WC3, they would have nerfed AM to the ground to force new strategy/heroes to get played. The problem with Riot is that due to their business model, they have a lot of incentives to merely shuffle the viable champion pool.

why do people always assume Riot's balancing is intrinsically tied to their "business model" rather than their personal view of balance?

it's inane.

And I disagree. Because they don't even "rotate", for lack of a better phrase, OP champions that well. They certainly do usually release strong champions, but its not like they have brought back Kog Maw in the last...2 years? And he has a bunch of awesome and relatively expensive skins like Jurassic and Chinese new year.

Shyvana was fotm for quite a while several months after her release. Then fell out of favor. Now is back. Champions definitely rotate. Another example, Nunu was jungle terror in season 1. He came back for a while in season 2/3. Nunu still sees play by (only) Bengi.

This whole argument is nuts. As long as you're doing a balance patches of course some number of champions are going to fall into and out of favor, especially from season to season when they completely change jungle masteries and items. The only alternative is to never ever do anything which no one actually wants because people (including TL) would get sick of XY OP or UP champions being left alone forever. Even that wouldn't prevent champs from going into and out of popularity all by themselves in the developing meta so long as the state of balance is remotely close to reasonable. Super Smash Bros Melee has had top tier characters hop up and down a step or two on the tier lists even in the past few years and that game is ancient.

Moreover, if balancing was not related to business success then no game developer would actually do it because all the ones that ignored balance would have beaten the companies that wasted time with it. DotA 2 is no exception and it also experiences meta/hero cycles (and benefits from the player engagement this produces). A dollar is a dollar... it doesn't matter where it comes from (RP, hats, box sales) as long as it comes from somewhere and you maintain good PR/satisfaction for your next product.

Ya I tried TF today and the first thing i thought was location of the card could be another way for ppl to memorize and select the right color card (aka last bracket is always gold) and second was it would benefit colorblind players. But for most veteran TF players blue red gold pattern should already be ingrained in their head to make a difference, but I think if i can harness the use of location of the cards as well as my already learnt blue red gold pattern it might strengthen my ability to pick a card on the first rotation or make it easier for me to react to a card faster.

tldr: seeing the location of the cards with the new W particle might make it easier to associate with the right color card

Flay is also so unbelievably good.

What's his niche anyway? The only thing he doesn't offer is sustain, but he has a multi-person shield anyway.
