Just makes players closer in ELO/MMR to each other.
So the range of player skill you're up against goes instead of, say, current Gold 1 to Gold 3, to Plat 4 to Gold 5. I know what it does, but why? What is the reason behind doing this? Easier to dethrone the highest challengers, easier for the lowest ranked to climb up again. Basically, keeps the normal distribution curve from getting too ridiculous at the extremes. Should improve challenger Q times on a temporary basis. By the end of the week half of challenger will be Turtle again anyway.

Also, since the ladder isn't zero-sum, without any resets there will be a gradual shift towards higher leagues.

So the lol general discussion is exploding because riot hired a guy called ghost crawler as a designer. Apparently he ruined WOW. Can anyone who has played WOW shed some light on it for me?

Where are you guys getting this soft reset info? All I'm seeing is a patch.

In Cataclysm, the expansion before the current one, Hunter was pretty simple. You had enough abilities to use to not get completely bored and enough procs to make things interesting so you weren't just going on autopilot.
Then Pandaria happened. All of the sudden a bunch of abilities were added to the class that you had to use because they were DPS increases. Most of them were on very awkward cooldowns which made things a hassle to track and, quite honestly, a real bitch to keymap them all. Hunter now had the most difficult rotation in the entire game and was the worst DPS class by far. People were asking Blizzard to either remove some abilities to remove bloat and buff others to make up for the DPS loss, or to make some of the new awkward cooldowns passive based. People threatened to leave WoW.
Ghostcrawler's response was essentially "We don't want to change things mid expansion because numbers show people are more likely to leave if we did that than if we changed things."
It'd be like if Riot left Zed/Ahri/Fizz alone and said "But people like playing assassins."

By far is a stretch, they are the lowest in a "patchwork" scenerio, but when every single fight has nonstop movement they are pretty much the kings.
Your analogy however is correct, and I for one can't wait to see him nerf ADC "TO THE GROUND BABY."

Your analogy however is correct, and I for one can't wait to see him nerf ADC "TO THE GROUND BABY." Not even patchwork. I got my # from a site that used logs from the live servers. If you took the best dps spec from every class, when I stopped playing, Hunter was iirc 20% behind the next worse class. Hunter DPS was so low that it was, by default, turned off on the charts from being so much worse than everything else.
On the current tier, Hunter is only better than Death Knight(when I left they were the best tank class in the game) and Shaman(which has the option to heal)

Does anyone have anything concrete that Ghostcrawler ruined in wow?
Also, I know seasons start with a soft reset, but where are you getting the information that it's happening now?

soft reset is to clean up elo inflation/deflation and create the feeling of an exiting new start to players.
It wont change anything, but a lot of people find it exciting and riot needs it anyways for cleanup.

why would you even assume some WoW designer that left a mage class pretty strong for a longer than usual time will now rebalance all LoL AP casters oO

maybe he will implement some quests on SR.
Or make baron and dragon a raid encounter with dodging skillshots from baron and stuff.

This is exactly it. I don't want him BECAUSE he's vocal. I'd rather blame the faceless void that is "Riot" rather than have to read through every discussion thread ever about how this game is now ruined because Ghostcrawler exists as a human being.
That said, I still don't like him for nerfing ret pallys. Most fun thing (but broken) ever.

hey, let's all blame 1 person for the actions of an entire corporation. wooooooooo

It'd be like if Riot left Zed/Ahri/Fizz alone and said "But people like playing assassins." Out of curiosity, was hunter harder than late-wotlk affliction lock, which was 4(5?) timers on the main boss, +1-2 per add(unless clumped, then you just SoC spam and pray you don't draw aggro while keeping track of timers on boss), and you could NEVER let corruption drop on the main boss or you lost like 20%DPS. Also no anti-clip/refresh on anything other than corruption. That was a lot of fun to play(for me at least), because you could top DPS charts in good gear if you did your rotation perfectly, or you could bottom tier if you fuckup.
I think ghostcrawler isn't too bad of an addition to the balance team though. Hopefully one of his goals will be to get more champions into viable status, which may or may not need corresponding nerfs to the strongest champs to occur. I'll wait to see what stuff he adds though.
